Dining out of town is always a challenge due to my wife's numerous food allergies; we've come to rely on OpenTable's reviews and descriptions to help filter out the restaurants where we're likely to have good success. Our server, Taylor was most accommodating and arranged for Chef Nick to come out to our table to consult with my wife. Chef Nick was very understanding of my wife's needs; he offered suggestions and went beyond and above the call of duty to accommodate her. He carefully prepared our meals to allow for sharing, and he gave detailed explanation of what he'd done for both dishes to reassure us that the dishes were allergen free. Chef Nick thanked us for the opportunity to serve and be creative! Basil's Rocks!"

  • "I was a little leary after reading reviews of those diners that had a Groupon or Living Social coupon, it seems their experiences were not that great. My friend and I had tickets to a play and decided this would be great! We purchased the groupon and Basil's was amazing from start to finish. Our waitress, Taylor, was friendly, attentive, and fantastic. The food offered for the Groupon option was fantastic! While each serving seemed small as it came out, there was MORE than enough food! The house wine ( we had Chardonnay) was good. I would for sure suggest Basil's to friends. We sat out on the "balcony" overlooking the IDS courtyard. It was quiet and relaxing. Thank you Basil's for a wonderful experience!"

  • "Received e-mails and calls in advance of reservation promising a wonderful dining experience but the service was very slow - 45 plus minutes to get a salad? Dinner was promised to take 1 hr but ended up being almost 2 hrs Food was just ok No view - inside wall next to a group room which was distracting at best. Elevator was so busy we had to use the steps coming in and leaving - the elevator was busy for 2 hrs?"

  • "I went on a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was not busy at all. The server was not very interested in telling me about the restaurant or the menu. When I asked for her suggestions she said she liked the steak au poivre (probably because it was the most expensive item). The description sounded good so I ordered it rare. It came out cooked well. The manager did a good job correcting the problem but my server did not seem to care. He gave me a desert which I ordered the peach cobbler. That was very good. The meal was not that good considering the cost."

  • "Our meal was wonderful. My jambalaya was excellent. My wife had scallops and they too were very good. The strawberry and feta salad was very good as was the strawberry and balsamic dessert. The service was professional. The view of the crystal court is a bonus. A great experience"

  • "The service was excellent as was the atmosphere. You could sense that the restaurant wasn't doing very well because it was empty on a Friday night at 6pm. I ordered the marlin, and it was a good sized piece of fish, but came with few accompaniments. The fish was overcooked, tough and dry. My girlfriend ordered the steak, which was small but very tender. I would only return for the atmosphere and the service, but not the food. The main reason to return to a restaurant is the food, so I will not be heading back here."

  • "From the moment we entered Basils, our experience was amazing. Matt, our server and the restaurant manager met our every request and need, even before we asked. The steak poivre and the pan seared chicken were both delicious and were served with interesting combinations. The wine, Canyon Road, was satisfying. Kudos to the chef for every course that we experienced. We will definitely return!"

  • "Our first time and we came for a romantic date/ Brithday. We were very impressed! We were sat over looking the courtyard which was beatiful. The service was great the way everything was served to you and explained as to what it entailed. We had used a Groupon which limits your menu selection a little but the choices that were available were impressive and the food was amazing! The flavor starting with the little appetizer, to the salad was wonderful and then the dinner it self was extremely complimentary with a fabulous grand fanile in palet sensational taste. We will definatley return."

  • "I suspect the main reason I have a "so so" feel about returning here has to do with something temporary that was going on in the building Basils is in. There had been a massive water issue somewhere in an upper floor of the buildng. The route we had to take to get to the restaurant was wet, foul, musty, etc .....the restaurant was completely unscathed.....but I think this just left me with a tough feeling to shake. The food was plated beautifully and delicious and fresh. Service was very friendly and attentive, although obvious.....there was not enough employed. I would indeed return again and give them another try."

  • "In town on business, and Basil's came up highly rated on Yelp. Food was good. The butternut squash gnocchi is delicious- the appetizer size is enough for a meal. Someone in my party raved about the calamari, but I didn't try it. The pork chop was devoured, the jambalaya looked enticing. My steak salad left a few things to be desired - plain looking, and the steak was very undercooked, but it was fixed quickly. What killed it was the kitchen was out of many dishes our party was interested in (eggplant parm, chicken with leeks). The espresso machine was broken (and had been for a week) and the bottle of wine we ordered was the last one; if we wanted two, tough luck. Overall, felt like we were scraping the bottom of a good barrel."

  • "Once again, Basil's provided a wonderful experience: - carefully prepared, flavorful and beautifully presented food, - knowledgeable, friendly and attentive server, - a beautiful view of the lovely Crystal Court of the IDS. Only downside this evening was that there was no host/hostess to greet and seat us, nor after our meal to thank us when we left or provide us with a parking validation. Our dear server rose to both occasions, graciously and with a smile, but I don't think she should have had to perform either of those functions as she had responsibility for a number of tables -- maybe somebody missed a shift? "

  • "I enjoyed a pleasant evening at Basils with my girlfriend courtesy of Groupon. The groupon was for a price fixed menu including amuse bouche, appetizer, main course and glass of wine. I ordered the house salad and my girlfriend got the tomato soup. We both ordered the filet for dinner. The food was delicious and very well presented. The amuse bouche was delicious and very indicative of the flavors and presentation apparent throught the meal. The salad was presented in a rolled flat bread crust unlike anything I have ever seen, very neat. The tomato soup was flavored with lobster, however, this provided an after taste that was too fishy and was really inferior to the rest of the meal. The steak was perfectly cooked to order."
