Diner Reviews
  • "the food was excellent. Service was wonderful. The table was like a wind tunnel we asked to move and were given options for the service door to be closed.......or move? It was poor management of the area."

  • "The service was excellent as was the atmosphere. You could sense that the restaurant wasn't doing very well because it was empty on a Friday night at 6pm. I ordered the marlin, and it was a good sized piece of fish, but came with few accompaniments. The fish was overcooked, tough and dry. My girlfriend ordered the steak, which was small but very tender. I would only return for the atmosphere and the service, but not the food. The main reason to return to a restaurant is the food, so I will not be heading back here."

  • "From the moment we entered Basils, our experience was amazing. Matt, our server and the restaurant manager met our every request and need, even before we asked. The steak poivre and the pan seared chicken were both delicious and were served with interesting combinations. The wine, Canyon Road, was satisfying. Kudos to the chef for every course that we experienced. We will definitely return!"

  • "We had a late breakfast at Basil's this week. The service was great. The breakfast very good and the view from the balcony over the Crystal Court gives one the feeling of being the star on a movie set. We will be back."

  • "Our first time and we came for a romantic date/ Brithday. We were very impressed! We were sat over looking the courtyard which was beatiful. The service was great the way everything was served to you and explained as to what it entailed. We had used a Groupon which limits your menu selection a little but the choices that were available were impressive and the food was amazing! The flavor starting with the little appetizer, to the salad was wonderful and then the dinner it self was extremely complimentary with a fabulous grand fanile in palet sensational taste. We will definatley return."

  • "We found this place through groupon. My steak was amazing but my fiancé's marlin was over cooked, I know that marlin is generally more chewy but this was really bad."

  • "No waiting for lunch plus wait staff was able to get us out in time for 1pm meetings. Great place for a business lunch, as the noise level was low enough for conversation."

  • "The food was very good except the berries and sorbet had too much Grand Marnier."

  • "I suspect the main reason I have a "so so" feel about returning here has to do with something temporary that was going on in the building Basils is in. There had been a massive water issue somewhere in an upper floor of the buildng. The route we had to take to get to the restaurant was wet, foul, musty, etc .....the restaurant was completely unscathed.....but I think this just left me with a tough feeling to shake. The food was plated beautifully and delicious and fresh. Service was very friendly and attentive, although obvious.....there was not enough employed. I would indeed return again and give them another try."

  • "Had dinner heare after having great breakfast earlier in week. Restaurant is located in Marquette Hotel on the 3rd floor overlooking IDS Court. Ask for balcony seating for best location. Food and wine pairings were great. Salmon and Walleye was great and next time will try the steak."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "This was our first time since Basil's reopened. Food and service were both excellent. Steak with blueberry glaze was questionable when i ordered but it turned out to be a winner. Walleye was also excellent. We will definitely go again and will recommend it to others."

  • "In town on business, and Basil's came up highly rated on Yelp. Food was good. The butternut squash gnocchi is delicious- the appetizer size is enough for a meal. Someone in my party raved about the calamari, but I didn't try it. The pork chop was devoured, the jambalaya looked enticing. My steak salad left a few things to be desired - plain looking, and the steak was very undercooked, but it was fixed quickly. What killed it was the kitchen was out of many dishes our party was interested in (eggplant parm, chicken with leeks). The espresso machine was broken (and had been for a week) and the bottle of wine we ordered was the last one; if we wanted two, tough luck. Overall, felt like we were scraping the bottom of a good barrel."

  • "this restaurant is not what it used to be. the food was fine as was the efficient, but not very engaging server"
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Once again, Basil's provided a wonderful experience: - carefully prepared, flavorful and beautifully presented food, - knowledgeable, friendly and attentive server, - a beautiful view of the lovely Crystal Court of the IDS. Only downside this evening was that there was no host/hostess to greet and seat us, nor after our meal to thank us when we left or provide us with a parking validation. Our dear server rose to both occasions, graciously and with a smile, but I don't think she should have had to perform either of those functions as she had responsibility for a number of tables -- maybe somebody missed a shift? "

  • "We were going to the Orpheum at 1 and decided to have brunch at Basil's. Fantastic food and definitely will return for lunch and dinner. Very pleased with the setting, the food, and definitely, our server. "

  • "I enjoyed a pleasant evening at Basils with my girlfriend courtesy of Groupon. The groupon was for a price fixed menu including amuse bouche, appetizer, main course and glass of wine. I ordered the house salad and my girlfriend got the tomato soup. We both ordered the filet for dinner. The food was delicious and very well presented. The amuse bouche was delicious and very indicative of the flavors and presentation apparent throught the meal. The salad was presented in a rolled flat bread crust unlike anything I have ever seen, very neat. The tomato soup was flavored with lobster, however, this provided an after taste that was too fishy and was really inferior to the rest of the meal. The steak was perfectly cooked to order."

  • "We went to Basil's last minute for Mother's Day as they were the only place with open times available for reservation. We were super impressed. I really wanted mom to be happy and was she ever... There were two buffet tables; one with meats, cheeses, fruits, etc and the second with desserts. You were able to select from a list of entree options. Everything was perfect, the food was delicious and I received kudos from my mom. Thank you Basil's!"

  • "Impressed with the quality of food at the Mothers Day Brunch. I especially enjoyed the pastries, fruit, salads, meats, cheeses etc. prior to the main meal. Desserts were great as well"
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "The Mother's Day Brunch provided a wonderful first salad, pastry, fruit, cheese, etc. course. The dessert buffet options were also wonderful and small enough to indulge in a few different choices. The disappointment came from the entrees. The salmon was tough, dry and not very fresh. (The side of pureed peas, however, were delicious.) The chicken was extremely over seasoned. The poached eggs had multiple egg shells in them. My daughter's quiche was the only exception, being above average. But at the prices Basil's charges, EVERYTHING should be way above average! It's sad. It seems like the people at Basil's think they can rest on the laurels of being Mary Tyler Moore's restaurant. "

  • "We used a living social coupon, so we thought the price of our food was fair, but without it we would have been disapointed. The food was just ok. We wished we would have walked around and found a different place to eat. My husband and I were celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary. The food was edible, but nothing exciting or memorable. "

  • "I purchased a dinner for two for this restaurant on Groupon. There wasn't any mention for restriction on groupon but when we got there, we only we given a very limited menu because we were using groupon. Then the size of the plate for so small my steak was gone if 4 bites. The only spices on the steak was pepper. The soup was very salty and I could bare eat half of it. I guess we paid for the location. I would not recommend that restaurant to anybody base my experience."

  • "We used a Living Social deal this evening - amazingly high quality food/experience for such a value. The hostess greeted us warmly and sat us at a table on their lovely balcony overlooking the Crystal Court. Our server (Matthew) was gracious, engaged and attentive- and made terrific wine recommendations for glasses we purchased beyond the Living Social deal. Our salads were fresh and creative, with a lovely play of flavors and textures. Our steak entrees were perfectly medium rare, and incredibly tasty, both in terms of the meat itself, but also the sauces, garnishes and sides. We very much appreciate the thoughtfulness and execution of the flavors/textures of the sauces, garnishes and salad dressings at Basil's- truly enhances the meal."
