Diner Reviews
  • "Yes you can find great Greek Food in the far West Suburbs. Basils has all the Greek favorites that you would expect from South Halsted Street near the Fox Valley Mall. My wife loved the Pastichio and I had some outstanding Saganaki with Greek potatoes and green beans. We also shared some of the best Saganaki I have ever had along with some solid Avgolemono (egg lemon soup). We will be back."

  • "This was our first visit and we were going with our friends to celebrate their birthdays. The ambiance was very pleasant because during our entire time there live music was being played.. The two musicians were excellent. The food was veggie friendly and they served best Saganaki I've had! We saw the beautiful patio with a large fireplace blazing and I would love to go back on a warmer night. We used "OpenTable" for our reservation and were seated immediately. There were no long lines and the service was great."

  • "This is a frequent spot for me on Friday evenings. I travel all week and this Angelo and George (along with the fantastic wait staff) always welcome me home. Pete plays live Greek music on Friday and always stops by our table to say hello during a break. The staff cater to special requests - if it makes you happy, they want to accommodate. The food is always good - my favorites include the Grilled Ocotopus, Lamb Sliders and the Beet Salad. Angelo and George have gone to great lengths to bring in good wines at an affordable price and the craft beer selection is fantastic. Maggie (behind the bar) always has a smile and a great, natural positive energy to anyone who sits at her bar."

  • "Basils, which used to be Lorenzo, in Aurora, is a great place to dine. We had the small filets and they were done to perfection. The waitress was attentive and pleasant and the atmosphere nice. We enjoyed ourselves and will return."

  • "We so enjoyed our time at Basil's. We were four, and three of us ordered the Beef tenderloin k-bobs and they were delicious and grilled perfectly. We had the Basil's chips as our appetizer and everyone enjoyed them. I love their classic Greek salad as it is always crisp and so fresh. Their iced tea is rich and delicious, with a wonderful black tea flavor. Basil's continues to be a great nearby spot for us to dine. Thank you Basil's !!!"

  • "Our experience at Basils's was a disappointment. We brought four friends with us to enjoy time together prior to going to a show. Although the service was average, the food was not. The bread was cold and bordering on stale. And my most favorite dish in the past here, the Gyros, were overcooked, brown and dry. Unfortunately, I recommended the gyros to the table but the others were the same, not very tasty. We were unable to have the server correct things because we needed to leave in time for the play. In the future, I may reconsider Basil's as a place to enjoy real Greek food."

  • "I and my family came for my daughter's 18th birthday. My other daughter and I had pasta dishes and they were good. My husband tried the pork kabobs and the pork was very dry. The waitress was very friendly and knowledgable. The birthday dessert was excellent and enjoyed by all at the table. We were a little disappointed in the greek dishes, unlikely to come back again."

  • "My wife and I have eaten here a couple of times, for special occasions, and found it very inviting with excellent drinks, food, and service. Although a few things on the menu changed between visits, I would rate that as a good thing, to keep your customers coming back for new experiences. You can't go wrong with saganaki, lamb entrees, and many other Greek favs. Portions are large enough to say "enough!" and bring the rest home with you. We will definitely return. Reservations recommended!"

  • "The food was so delicious. We had skordalia and saganaki for an app which is a fail-proof Greek food fav of mine, loved it. They were serving beer flight from a local microbrewery that were amazing! I tried each main entree on the table and each was just as delicious and more interesting than the next. It was about $50 per person ($55 w/drinks) but well worth it! I loved this restaurant and would definitely go again!"

  • "Flaming cheese is always the best thing about Basils. Gyros plate was just ok, lamb loin special tough and chewy. Great selection of Craft beers."

  • "Had a great experience at Basil's this past Saturday evening. We had a family gathering (8 of us), and it was the first time at Basil's for the entire group. Although it was our first time there, we have eaten at many good Greek restaurants, and Greek cuisine is a favorite for all of us. We were not disappointed by Basil's. Everyone was very pleased with the appetizers, and their individual entrees. They have one of the best beer selections I have seen, and also a very complete wine list. Last, but not least, I must commend our server, Jackie, she definitely had her "A game" on."

  • "I know it was Valentine's Day & I knew it would be busy, so I expected to have a slight delay. Our reservations were for 7:30, we arrived at 7 just to make sure not to be late. While waiting to be seated, we decided to get some drinks at the bar, it took 15 minutes to get the bartenders attention because she seemed overwhelmed. I felt she did a great job considering she was the only one, they should have had 2 bartenders. We did not get a table till 8:45 and that was after talking to the manager twice. We placed our appetizer order right away, but our dinner order wasn't taken for another 30 minutes. We were never asked if we needed anything more to drink. Our food finally came out at 9:45, which we basically boxed up & never got our soups!"

  • "We went there for Valentine's and I had booked a table for 9:15 pm. I was not seated until 10:15. There was no point booking a table atthis place. There was a crowd of people waiting by the door to be sseated and when a table was available, people were seated randomly. The food was salty and horrible. The service was decent and it was very noisy. I would never go there again."

  • "An excellent greek and italian style menu with excellent food. Service was great and the entertainers providing soft greek music were excellent while things stayed quiet and conversation was easy."

  • "We had a 7pm reservation on Valentine's day, arrived 15min late, were put in the queue & told 20min. We were seated at 8:02. Others w/7 pm reservations were seated @the same time. My wife ordered the Spanakopita off the Vday menu & looked like a giant burrito. Too much spinach. I ordered Greek "comfort" food, YiaYia's Pasta, fine, but nothing to write home about. The fried zucchini and eggplant chips were fantastic. Too bad we had to request them AFTER our entre. The waitress was extremely busy, but she managed to take care of the other tables better. The sweet salad was excellent as was the chocolate lava cake. Too much food even though we shared the salad, chips, and dessert. I'd give it another try, my wife would not."

  • "Walked in five minutes before our 8pm Open Table reservation to absolute chaos. There were no less than 30 groups waiting to be seated. The host stand guy abandoned his reservation and was randomly writing names on a yellow pad and seating people in no particular order. They could not predict how long we would have to wait. Totally out of control. Once seated, simultaneously to many of the waiting groups, caused the wait staff and kitchen to back up. Long wait times for attention and meals. The food was ok but overshadowed by the tense vibe of both diners and staff. I recognize it was a busy night, but... Too bad, I love Greek and Mediterranean food and was looking forward to dining here. But I won't be going back any time soon."

  • "While I thought the food was excellent, as well as our server Alex, I was very disappointed in the ret of the staff, we had a reservation at 6:00, were there at that time, but it took us 30 more minutes to get seated, even though there were plenty of available tables for everyone who was waiting to be seated. The 3 young ladies seating guests just seemed very disorganized."

  • "In looking for authentic Greek Food, Basil's is up at the top. The Service was excellent as well as the food. Excellent wine list too! The prices are reasonable and the portions are just right! We have returned several times and will continue to do so!"

  • "Valentines day was *way* overbooked. Clearly intentional, in my opinion. 7pm reservations, seated at 8, then 2 hours at the table due to slow service. 4 course meal, there were 10-15 minute breaks between the courses.. The food was good, and I might consider going again when it's a slow night. Drinks at the bar were expensive, and the massive delays made the bar & waiting area too packed to enjoy them.."

  • "Basil's features a lovely environment but most of what we were served was either overcooked or too salty. It seemed that the food wasn't prepared for individual meals but cooked en masse for catering and then served up on individual plates. It's too bad - Greek food can be so amazing when done on a slightly smaller scale. Nothing was 'horrible' but nothing was amazing."

  • "Over all my first experience with Basil's Greek dining was terrific. I think that the biggest mistake was going there for the first time on Valentine's day. We made reservations for 7pm, arrived on time and then proceeded to wait for 50 minutes to get a table. They were obviously majorly overbooked. We held out because everyone who had been there before said it would be worth the wait. They were right on. we had a lovely evening, wonderful service and delicious food. Greek music was played by a two man band. When we left at 9:45, the lobby was still booked solid with people waiting to be seated. We will definitely go again."

  • "We heard Basils was a great place to go for Valentines Day. We arrived early to avoid the crowd, and there were a number of open tables. The service however was slow (12 minutes before our waitress first appeared), the food when it finally arrived was good. Judging from the crowd waiting for a table when we left, others may have had a better experience."

  • "We went valentine weekend, on a Saturday evening. So, it was a little busy. The service did not start off well. Almost every restaurant I visit there is usually some type of greeting, except here. We were practically ignored for 15 to 20 seconds while we stood in front of the host booth. Two greeters were in the booth talking. I finally said hello and the male greeter greeter looked at us and said we will be with in a minute and finished there discussion, it was very rude, after that we were seated immediately. The table for two almost seem like a table of four as we were seated so close to another couple. The meal was fantastic, and the waitress was attentive but it was busy. So, the service was a little slow. We will definitely be back."

  • "We were expecting busy, but this was a total cattle call! It was crazy, with many couples/families showing up without reservations, even at 815p when we left. On this night . . . are you kidding me . . . no reservation? Very loud and uncomfortable."
