A word from Basilico
Basilico Restaurant, located in Millburn, New Jersey was established by co-owners Mario DeMarco and Angelo Delbecchi, formerly of Sergio's, also in Millburn. Both are graduates of the Hotel Management School in Alassio, Italy. Both from Italy, they have brought their original and authentic Italian cuisine to Millburn.

Basilico has a definite New York look and feel, which reflects in our food items. We use the best of ingredients. "Casual and chic" is how we have been described by reviewers. The atmosphere is warm, comfortable and energetic. Our goal is to maintain the highest level of hospitality, remembering that you are the guest, and it is our ultimate goal for you to leave thoroughly satisfied. Special requests can be accommodated.

One of my friends ordered a soup that was made up of items like kale and other greens that we are all urged to eat for out health. She said ti was very good. Maybe I will try it on my next visit."

Not so last week when we had to flag down a waiter to take our order ask for anything we needed including a dessert menu and our bill. The best part of the experience was the dessert, which was outstanding. I would not go here again because of the simply non-existent "service". If I could, I would give it a minus poor for service!!"

  • "We really enjoyed our meal. We started off with 2 different salads and a fried calamari appetizer. The salads were delicious, although I was a tad disappointment that some of the lettuce in the Caesar was brown, it was still very good. Entrees were Lasagna, Goat cheese & Pear ravioli, a skirt steak and off the "specials" menu Monkfish. All were simply delicious, with no complaints at all! Dessert was the kicker for me, the menu was decent sized and quite difficult to choose just one item (and there was a trio item that sampled 3 desserts), but we went with the frozen banana split, baked Alaska and strawberry napoleon! The presentation was so good we hated to break into them, delicious was an understatement! Highly recommend this place!"

  • "Four of as went to Basilico this past weekend for an early dinner. The service was very good but the food was just average. I had the sardine appetizer special which had 3 small sardines with a lot of vegetables. This was the theme of all the dishes. Overload with vegetables and it looks like you are getting a big portion. The other appetizers were alright and the same with the entrees."

  • "A friend recommended Basilico, and she was right as it was a great choice. We arrived a couple minutes late for an early Friday evening dinner, and was seated promptly. The service was great. My entree lobster/shrimp ravioli was a great dish. The beet salad was also delicious. The atmosphere was perfect… By the time we left the restaurant had filled up, and yet the noise level was moderate. Will definitely come back again with my husband and more friends."

  • "As vegetarians, it is sometimes difficult to find innovative and delicious places to eat, but Basilico had a huge variety of options for us to order from their menu (in addition to many meat, fish and chicken options), including many small plates to mix and match. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere at Basilico was elegant and welcoming--it felt like a taste of Italy, complete with Italian music playing in the background. The staff were friendly, helpful and responsive. It was a bit cold inside the restaurant (snowing outside, and we sat near a window) but this was our only complaint. I would very happily return and simply dress warmly!"

(Only a 10 min walk). We even stopped back for dessert. Excellent smoked salmon app, lasagne, and gnocchi. Huge desserts! Friendly staff. We'll be back."

  • "This was our first time at Basilico. We had tickets for a show at the Paper Mill and were interested in dining locally and walking to the theater. We were attracted by the fact that is BYOB. I thought the service was excellent. I'm not used to having my server watch my glass and pour more wine -- when the wine is a bottle I've brought. We should have allowed a little more time to savor the experience, but felt rushed to order -- not by the staff -- but by our curtain time. We had the mushroom ravioli (it has a fancier name) and the Sole special with risotto. In all candor the risotto was not up to my standard, but the balance of the food -- including the bread basket was very good. We will return."

This is becoming my new favorite dining spot. I would just caution that if you are seated near the door it gets quite cold and a bit noisy. Otherwise, a lovely place to dine with friends and family."

  • "A BYOB with a wine list, go figure. Our table was a bit cramped with many servers and patrons brushing by so avoid seating in the area between the front and back dining rooms. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Never opened the menu, had to go with the Chestnut soup and the Venison Three Ways both special that night. Great choices, we'll be back."

  • "Went to Basilico with a friend I haven't seen in 50 years, plus our spouses. We spent almost two hours catching up, and never felt rushed. The service was attentive but not intrusive. My husband and I had the pumpkin ravioli with Gorgonzola sauce and walnuts--disappointing-it wasn't hot and the sauce was too thick and also wasn't plentiful enough-probably should have sent it back for reheating and for more sauce.The ravioli was on the bland side. However, the arugula salad with figs and goat cheese was very good. My friend's wife had the mushroom ravioli, which was hot and delicious, and his salmon was also very good. We will probably come again, in the hopes of choosing a better entree, since the others were much better than ours."

Service was terrible; had to flag down a waiter for more water, bread; had to ask to have our BYOB wine to be poured (it was located in an ice bucket about 10 feet away from us). For me it's very sad when you are still wanting and eating bread AFTER your appetizer and main entree (and we each got our own appetizer and main course). I have no issue spending good money on a good meal but this was in no way good. And by the way, this is the second time we have tried this restaurant. Thought the first bad experience was a fluke. NOT."
