Diner Reviews
  • "This is a lovely neighborhood restaurant that you can count on for consistency. I applaud them for being willing to experiment. One of my friends ordered a soup that was made up of items like kale and other greens that we are all urged to eat for out health. She said ti was very good. Maybe I will try it on my next visit."

  • "Basilico has a wonderfully varied menu that hits all the spots on your palate. The goat cheese pear ravioli are one of the best things I've eaten. Ever. Veal and mushooms. Delicious. The seafood specials, a grouper and a seafood garganelle were delicious and well priced. Fresh pastas, lovely salads, all great! A small, reasonably priced wine list or BYO."

  • "The Trio Di Dolci is unbelievable! It's Creme Brulee, Baked Alaska, and Chocolate Banana phyllo wrap. The presentation was beautiful and every dessert was absolutely delicious!"

  • "Atmosphere was really pleasant and comfortable. Noise level was low so there was no shouting or over talking . Service was good and food was wonderful. The restaurant is boy if you wish which makes cost of dinner more manageable. Highly recommend this restaurant ."

  • "Loved this restaurant..especially for lunch and the theater (Papermill Playhouse is right down the block). Great menu, fine food prepared with a little flare! I had the 3 little plates and it was quite filling. Unique iced tea selection and presentation."

  • "My fish was way overcooked and the risotto was like paste and was uneatable. The food was not good"

  • "Lived in Millburn years ago and decided it would be a good place to take a friend to celebrate her birthday. I have good memories of dining here. Not so last week when we had to flag down a waiter to take our order ask for anything we needed including a dessert menu and our bill. The best part of the experience was the dessert, which was outstanding. I would not go here again because of the simply non-existent "service". If I could, I would give it a minus poor for service!!"

  • "We were visiting the Milburn, NJ, area and needed to find a great place to eat on a Monday night. Basilico would be a great option any night of the week. Everything about it was creative and yummy. We will definitely go back...many, many times!"

  • "We really enjoyed our meal. We started off with 2 different salads and a fried calamari appetizer. The salads were delicious, although I was a tad disappointment that some of the lettuce in the Caesar was brown, it was still very good. Entrees were Lasagna, Goat cheese & Pear ravioli, a skirt steak and off the "specials" menu Monkfish. All were simply delicious, with no complaints at all! Dessert was the kicker for me, the menu was decent sized and quite difficult to choose just one item (and there was a trio item that sampled 3 desserts), but we went with the frozen banana split, baked Alaska and strawberry napoleon! The presentation was so good we hated to break into them, delicious was an understatement! Highly recommend this place!"

  • "Four of as went to Basilico this past weekend for an early dinner. The service was very good but the food was just average. I had the sardine appetizer special which had 3 small sardines with a lot of vegetables. This was the theme of all the dishes. Overload with vegetables and it looks like you are getting a big portion. The other appetizers were alright and the same with the entrees."

  • "Food and service were excellent overall. Skirt steak was nothing special, a poor choice on my part. Veal was much higher quality. Weather kept people away so back room was nicely quiet."

  • "A friend recommended Basilico, and she was right as it was a great choice. We arrived a couple minutes late for an early Friday evening dinner, and was seated promptly. The service was great. My entree lobster/shrimp ravioli was a great dish. The beet salad was also delicious. The atmosphere was perfect… By the time we left the restaurant had filled up, and yet the noise level was moderate. Will definitely come back again with my husband and more friends."

  • "The waitstaff was absolutely fantastic -such kind and attentive service. Unfortunately, the food was a bit disappointing. Perhaps it was an off night -but everything we had with the exception of the Napoleon, was average. The Napoleon was fantastic."

  • "Went to Basilico for an anniversary dinner. Service was friendly but not intrusive. Our appetizers were delicious, as were our dinners. For dessert, we had both the chocolate and the Gran Marnier souffles. They were just the right size for one person and they were absolutely wonderful. I can't wait for a reason to go back!"

  • "As vegetarians, it is sometimes difficult to find innovative and delicious places to eat, but Basilico had a huge variety of options for us to order from their menu (in addition to many meat, fish and chicken options), including many small plates to mix and match. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious! The atmosphere at Basilico was elegant and welcoming--it felt like a taste of Italy, complete with Italian music playing in the background. The staff were friendly, helpful and responsive. It was a bit cold inside the restaurant (snowing outside, and we sat near a window) but this was our only complaint. I would very happily return and simply dress warmly!"

  • "The manager provided us with an excellent environment to hold a casual client meeting, timing the order taking and plate deliver in perfect timing with our need to present marketing materials. The food and presentation were a great success together. We look forward to our next lunch meeting at Basilico."

  • "My wife and I came here for our anniversary. Although we were late on our reservation, they accommodated us and ha d everything ready so we could make the show at Papermill. (Only a 10 min walk). We even stopped back for dessert. Excellent smoked salmon app, lasagne, and gnocchi. Huge desserts! Friendly staff. We'll be back."

  • "great place for customer, some of the best italian i have had in recent years."

  • "This was our first time at Basilico. We had tickets for a show at the Paper Mill and were interested in dining locally and walking to the theater. We were attracted by the fact that is BYOB. I thought the service was excellent. I'm not used to having my server watch my glass and pour more wine -- when the wine is a bottle I've brought. We should have allowed a little more time to savor the experience, but felt rushed to order -- not by the staff -- but by our curtain time. We had the mushroom ravioli (it has a fancier name) and the Sole special with risotto. In all candor the risotto was not up to my standard, but the balance of the food -- including the bread basket was very good. We will return."

  • "We had another great dining experience last Friday. The food was wonderful. They had lemon sole as a special and it was delicious. As always, the bread and desserts were fabulous. This is becoming my new favorite dining spot. I would just caution that if you are seated near the door it gets quite cold and a bit noisy. Otherwise, a lovely place to dine with friends and family."

  • "We were thrilled with our visit to Basillico. The food was fabulous ,the service superb and the ambience delightful We can't wait to go back."

  • "A BYOB with a wine list, go figure. Our table was a bit cramped with many servers and patrons brushing by so avoid seating in the area between the front and back dining rooms. Service was attentive but not overbearing. Never opened the menu, had to go with the Chestnut soup and the Venison Three Ways both special that night. Great choices, we'll be back."

  • "It was our second time here and we're not disappointed. Food selection and presentation were top notch. Portion sizes were sized right, although I could've had a bit more risotto with short ribs. We'll be back"

  • "Having frequented Basilico for over 9 years I can assure you that no area restaurant has been so consistent - from the quality of the food to the level of service to the amazing desserts, there's something for everyone to like here."

  • "Lovely place for a celebratory dinner. Baked ziti special was very good along w the pumpkin ravioli. It's easy being a vegetarian at this restaurant. Very nice wine selection but you can bring your own. Will definitely be back here."

  • "Fish entrees were beautifully prepared (red snapper, orrata, and flounder). The accompanying vegetables were nicely prepared as well. Loved the brulee pumpkin cheesecake. Service was extremely attentive. We had very early (6pm) reservations. At this time the restaurant wasn't fully filled and it wasn't too loud. By 8pm it was filled, noisy and people were waiting."

  • "Went to Basilico with a friend I haven't seen in 50 years, plus our spouses. We spent almost two hours catching up, and never felt rushed. The service was attentive but not intrusive. My husband and I had the pumpkin ravioli with Gorgonzola sauce and walnuts--disappointing-it wasn't hot and the sauce was too thick and also wasn't plentiful enough-probably should have sent it back for reheating and for more sauce. The ravioli was on the bland side. However, the arugula salad with figs and goat cheese was very good. My friend's wife had the mushroom ravioli, which was hot and delicious, and his salmon was also very good. We will probably come again, in the hopes of choosing a better entree, since the others were much better than ours."

  • "Went here for a birthday celebration. Service was terrible; had to flag down a waiter for more water, bread; had to ask to have our BYOB wine to be poured (it was located in an ice bucket about 10 feet away from us). For me it's very sad when you are still wanting and eating bread AFTER your appetizer and main entree (and we each got our own appetizer and main course). I have no issue spending good money on a good meal but this was in no way good. And by the way, this is the second time we have tried this restaurant. Thought the first bad experience was a fluke. NOT."
