Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I ordered the Chicken Francaise over spinach risoto and I will tell you that it was one of the best entrees we ever had. It was so good that we debated ordering another for dessert (we didn't). We had the cappuccino pie for dessert (it was fantastic). We had the red ale (also fantastic). We had a wonderful meal! "

  • "We continue to be pleasantly surprised every time we go to Basil Ts! Food, service, & ambiance are always spot-on! Highly recommended!!"

  • "I surprised my husband with a a dinner date out. We had never been to Basil T's before and we were not disappointed. We were seated right away, our server was very attentive and food was delicious. Great first time experience for both of us."

  • "Basil T's is always consistent with very good food. We especially love to begin with the Caesar Salad and have some type of home-made pasta with our entree. Service is wonderful in the dining area as well as the bar. This is a a great place to dine in Red Bank if you love Italian food."

  • "Enjoyed a dinner at Basil Ts. The food here is always superb. I think we ate every morsel on the plates of our salad and entrees. The drinks were very good. Our server forgot our drinks but returned with them quickly. Otherwise service was fine. Although the food runners seemed in a hurry to drop their deliveries and run off quickly. We took dessert home. The cannolis are excellent."

  • "Tues. eve., 5:00 for 2; place was packed. No wait time. Free lot parking. Hostess was friendly. Bar was packed. Nice “Italian” setting; very clean, frsh tomatos all over, bottles of wine. Server seemed frazzled. He explained place was empty and within 30 mins had filled right up. Basil’s was running a price freeze special for the month. Salad was OK, as was chicken parm. Pasta perfect al dente. Meatball’s skimpy as compared to others, but was good. Noise level was excessive. Overall food quality as compared to price has me questioning value/ revisit. On-site brewed beer was very nice, especially red ale."

  • "They did a fanstastic job with their Restaurant Week menu!"
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "The restaurant's atmosphere was immediately warm and friendly. Despite a very crowded dining room our service was quick, efficient, and friendly, We chose from the Restaurant Week specials list and you'd never guess this wasn't the full menu. Food was delicious. Cesar Salad was creamy and garlicky, Portion sizes were perfect and just very, very good."

  • "Our waitress was dismissive, rude and actually rolled her eyes when I ordered a fruit juice. Literally the only time she smiled or made eye contact was when she slapped (aka, SLAPPED) the bill down on the table. The food was bland and no better than the corner pizza place in our local town. It was way too loud and our table was so crammed in we had to MOVE every time the equally rude waiter served the table behind us, which I'm pretty sure is a fire hazard. This dining experience was a drive-by with a one-hour time limit on our table. We had our apps almost before we ordered, and yes, they were cold. Whatever we ate did not sit well and we had to miss our play at the local theater that night to head home."

  • "We made a reservation arrived 10 minutes prior to our time and still had to wait a half hour to be seated. But as larger parties came in they would be seated prior to us. Not happy with that. Food. Is pricey for what you get, 26.00 for chicken parm and pasta dish. Would not go back ever."

  • "Our group of 6 was immediately seated on a very busy Monday night. The place is a little dark and the throwback special prices are a deal. Thumbs up for the Chicken Parmagiano. A hallmark of a good restaurant is consistency. I dined here 3-4 weeks ago and had the chicken parmesan as well. The chicken is tender and the marinara sauce pops with flavor. The place is a little dark; however, we were seated by the windows so it was not an issue for our group."

  • "Everything was excellent at Basil T's, as usual, except that the last time we went, it was so dark in there we couldn't read the menu! The server apologized (apparently, quite a few diners had complained but no one had corrected the situation), and suggested that if one of us had a "smart phone" with a flashlight feature, we should use that!!!!!! Fortunately, my phone does, and as odd and inconvenient as it was, we DID use it! Mood lighting is fine, but that was ridiculous! The one star rating I gave in the "ambiance" category was because of the terrible lighting. NORMALLY, I would have given it 4 or 5 stars. Not THIS time! Votive candles don't work well as reading lights!"

  • "Pricey... Good food, had to wait 15 min to be seated even though we had reservations."

  • "They do a great job at Basil Ts. The month of March includes Roll Back specials that are too good to pass up. The regular menu includes great pizza and italian specialties. The place is full of returning guests so that tells you something."

  • "The food was great but the waiter was horrible. It was almost as if he was high on something. This was our second poor experience so we are done. Very let down because friends of ours love this place."

  • "Server was excellent! Bringing a candle on desserts for my daughter's birthday celebration was an attentive touch!"

  • "I was disappointed with our dinner at Basil T's. I heard good things about this place and thought it was overrated. The food was basic Italian and priced too high for what you got. Our bill was around $150 for the 3 of us. We each ordered one entree, no appetizers and 3 beers and one glass of wine. I left feeling unfulfilled. There are so many Italian restaurants in Red Bank that are better that we will not be going back to this place"

  • "Basil T's has a great menu with classic Italian dishes including Escarole and Beans and it's famous Sunday Sauce. The wine list is extensive with notable selections from all over Italy in all price ranges. The atmosphere is a feast for the eyes. There is a bounty of red ripe tomatoes everywhere as well as other tasteful decor and the tables are comfortably placed and spaced apart. The noise level is tolerable even when the place is packed. Overall a very enjoyable place to dine out."

  • "Menu was very limited. Service was very inattentive. The prosciutto appetizer was good, not great. I got the Chicken Parm. It was 'ok', but for $28 I expected better. It had spaghetti on top that tasted like something from a food service and the red sauce wasn't very memorable. My girlfriend got the Ravioli with shrimp for $25 and it had...get this...1 shrimp on the plate. The ravioli wasn't cooked enough. I know al dante, and this was al al dante. Drinks were very pricey. 2 people, 2 house drinks each and before tip it was $130. I know this place gets 2 hour waits. Maybe it was a bad night, but all I know is they could have brought this food over from the local pizzeria and I don't think it would have tasted any different."

  • "If you want great Italian food go here...they are also a brewery and make there own beer which is really good. They also have an amazing wine list...so something for everyone. If your looking for a bar to just hang by they have that too. I does get crowded so makesure if your dining make a reservation. I have nothing bad to say about this place. Definitely all around great!!!"

  • "Loud. Overpriced for the food and the cocktails. I was shocked at the cost of the entrees and the $12.00 martini. The service was good. Not one of the best dining experiences I have had."

  • "The food is solid, fresh, authentic Italian food. Large and reasonable wine list. Casual setting."

  • "One of my favorite local places to go. I always love their Braised Short Ribs Specials. Of course the beer is great as well."

  • "A neighborhood bar with a great microbrewery and good food, but very overpriced. Come on now, 32.00 for filet of sole? Really? I understand about halibut being expensive, but sole? And how much can pasta and Sunday gravy actually be? But they do get a following at this restaurant. Maybe they have to pay top dollar for those baskets of fresh ripe tomatoes on display as you walk to your table. Even out of season, here, these tomatoes are always delicious."

  • "We've eaten at Basil T's before but this evening it was very special. We asked for a quieter table and were seated in the porch area, a table way in the back in its own little corner. We were able to talk to our friends who had driven down from Springfield to see us. Our waiter was very helpful, and all the staff was attentive. The food was, as always, delicious and easy, and the night was a success."

  • "The food is excellent, great service & good brewery. It is a little dark and has a lot of TVs to be real romantic but a worthwhile trade off. Would highly recommend the Sunday Sauce (only available on Sundays, and they will run out)."

  • "One couple started with the Caesar salad, and the other started with a special Beet salad appetizer - delish. For entrees, chicken parm, eggplant parm, 4 cheese ravioli with a huge meatball, and ricotta gnocchi with dried figs and Gorgonzola. Yum. Many dessert choices ... 2 of us settled on a tiramisu- nice and light - and a freshly filled cannoli."

  • "We go to Basil's often and are members of their "Mug Club" and "Wine Society". Their food and service are always excellent! It's always a good thing to make reservations because it's a VERY popular place, all year long!"
    Dined on 1/15/2014
  • "We've eaten here 4 or 5 times in the last 2 years with family and friends and the food is very good as is the wine list. If you go back a few times it is worth joining the wine club and I also hear there is a beer club. We live 30 miles away but feel the trip is worth it and then a stroll through Red bank. The Pasta dishes are excellent and the giant red tomatoes with some olive oil, basil and cheese are a plain but delicious appy. We've taken several people with us and all have had nice meals. Service can be a little slow so keep you eye out for the wait staff."

  • "Had dinner here on a Saturday night. The only positive thing I can say is that our reservation was @ 7 p.m , our table was ready and we were seated right away. The place was SO crowded, that every time someone walked past my husband's chair, it was kicked, or banged into. Every time the waiter tried to squeeze past my chair to attend the table behind us, my coat was knocked off the back of the chair (no coat room), The noise level was beyond reasonable. It was very difficult to have a conversation. It was about 16 degrees outside when we left, but it was so refreshing to be out there since the temperature inside was probably about 80! The food was just ok, and definitely not worth the over-price that was charged."
