  • "We found Basil Seasonal Dining wandering into various courtyards in Carmel. We wandered on as it was early for lunch, continuing to review menus and decided their menu was the most interesting. We sampled the abalone appetizer which was flavorful and tender as well as sustainably farmed. Our entries were equally tasty. I found their house made limoncello quite tasty."

  • "It is the second time we dine at Basil and our experience was just as wonderful as the first one. I like that the food is local, organic, sustainable and that the restaurant is certified green. The dishes are creative, prepared with care and can be made gluten-free for most. The service is friendly and professional. The wine list is extensive with many organic wines to choose from. The setting is charming whether you eat inside or on the quiet court. Kids are made welcome and accommodated. Basil is my favorite place to eat in Carmel!"

  • "We ate at Basil on Saturday the 21st. We had a reservation and arrived on time. We were greeted by friendly staff and servers. Our planned table wasn't ready so they sat us outside on the patio which was very nice. We were then moved inside between our first and second course. At this point our service became more spotty--I think the servers nor our group knew whom we were to ask for help. Food wise, the food was excellent. We started with cocktails (the basil margarita was excellent) and burrata. The we ate the pulled pork sandwiches which were a meal themselves and our best food of the night. We had the gnocchi, the beef cheeks, and the salmon. Of the three entrees the salmon was tops! We will be back when we are back in Carmel."

  • "The welcome was warm, the service was great, and although the restaurant space is small, it didn't feel cramped. I ordered the "signature" cocktail--rum, passionfruit (I think) and basil, which was very tangy and packed a punch. My salad and entree were both specials-- a white peach salad and fresh Monterey salmon on a bed of lentils. (Usually I avoid lentils, but these were pretty good.) Both the salad and the salmon were delicious. For dessert I had white peach sorbet."

  • "The servers seemed rushed and service very slow the night my sister, boyfriend, and I ate here. Several of our drink orders were wrong or lost. Overheard the server apologizing to other diners for the slow service as well, so it was probably just a bad night. About 1.5 hours into the evening, our food arrived and was perfect! Duck liver pate was sweet and creamy. The roasted cauliflowers in the rabbit entree were amazing! The rabbit itself, dry. Scallops were good. Be prepared with good conversation topics or to endlessly gaze into your date's eyes when dining here, otherwise the long wait isn't worth it."

  • "We had lunch both days while we stay at Carmel. The place is so charming and lovely. The service is superb. Most important, the food is delicious. We had black ink linguini which was made in house with fresh squid from Monterey Bay. It is so delicious so we went back the second day. We had orange cheese cake it is so fluffy and aromatic. This is the best restaurant in Carmel, definitely."

  • "I ordered an appetizer "to start" and a salad. The appetizer arrived at the same time as my wife's entree (so much for sharing) and the salad arrived very soon after. The waiter's excuse was that he brought the items out when they were ready (a pretty lousy excuse). The salad had raw artichoke which was as bitter as anything I have ever eaten. My understanding that this happens when the artichoke is not fresh. This used to be one of my favorite places and maybe the problem was going on Easter Sunday but it was already late enough so that the crowd was thinning out. "

  • "Place is quite small with not a lot of ambiance, but the food was fabulous. We will definitely come back when visiting Carmel.!!!!!! I had the abalone., Thought it would be in steak form butit wasn't. Vegetable were fabulous so fresh and cooked beautifully. My husband had Venison and it was cooked perfectly. We both had dessert as well blood orange cheesecake and Ollalaberry cobbler. "

The duck gnocchi seemed to be missing both duck and flavor. I did enjoy the salmon (although a bit dry) b/c of the celery root puree. Wine list is ordinary."

They have awesome vegetarian options. I had the roasted vegetables with spinach ravioli. Oh my goodness it was delicious. I recommend Basil for the vegetarian looking for something creative and delicious."

  • "We have been to Carmel many times but it was our first time to try Basil. The food and service were both excellent. The burrata, arugula, and pear salad was delicious and a different twist on burrata. We had had the special fesh fish, petrale sole with asparagus and their classic braised beef cheeks. Very different dishes but both w ere excellent. The decor is nothing special but the the food is well worth a visit. We would definitely go again!"

  • "Cute, tiny little restaurant. GREAT food. Not the run-of-the-mill dishes and all outstanding. Small restaurant but comfortable. Lovely outside dining. Our only negative for the evening was that they sent one of the waiters home early thinking they would not have a big night and there was only one waiter and one busboy for the entire inside and outside restaurant. Made for very long waits between courses. The waiter and the busboy did their best, but not fair to them nor to the patrons. If not for that, would have given them five stars!! A must go to and we will be back."

  • "Dined here Friday night on a girls weekend getaway. Was excited for seasonal and local fare. Was fairly underwhelmed with the menu selection. Definitely a "foodie" menu, beef cheeks, lamb meatballs, etc. The selection was small (although to be fair, so is the restaurant), and a little too eclectic for my taste. Should have researched the menu a bit more before making reservations. The service staff was extremely friendly. My biggest complaint was that the glass of wine served was EXTREMELY small, especially for a $14/glass (ouch). In a town that has so many lovely tasting rooms, their wine selection was small, pricey, and then to top it off we barely got more than you would at a tasting - where you'd get 4 pours for the same price or less."

The food is ever changing and beautifully displayed. The regular customers speak to the dependability and personal service you can expect. Try a winemaker dinner if you can."

  • "We chose this spot because of the vegan options. I arrived a little early for our reservation and was seated immediately. I was a little apprehensive because I had read how close the tables were together but I was seated at a very nice table at the end of the courtyard but it turned out to be fine. Bread and water came right away but the waiter didn't bother to come over until we were both seated. I would have liked to have ordered a glass of wine while I was waiting but it wasn't that much of an issue since my friend arrived within 15 minutes. I started with the beet salad. It was good, but in all honesty I have had better. I ordered the swordfish special with parsnip puree for my entree. It was amazingly delicous! Definitely a must try"

  • "We went for Valentine's Day and $162 for 2 people to have "3 quarter sized scallops, 3oz of beef cheek, soup, salad, and dessert" was way too expensive. Also, the advertising for the Valentine's special was poorly advertised. I would think a price on a couple's holiday would include both person's courses. And then you give away a complimentary glass of champagne...HAHA!"

  • "We loved the intimate and relaxed feel of Basil. The duck gnocchi was amazing! Our daily local seafood special of sea scallops on a bed of farro and fall veggies was very flavorful. Our glass of the local Pinot Noir was young and needed time to breathe; however, we did enjoy it with our meal. The warm, fresh olalliebrerry cobbler with vanilla gelato was a delightful end to a very good and enjoyable meal!"

  • "Dined at Basil for the third time and again it was a treat. I consider myself a drink snob. One of the main reasons I go to a restaurant is to enjoy the cocktails. No bar but they build a beautiful drink (I had an old fashion) which just starts everything off so well. I was there with three golfing buddies and we all had the special (short rib) and it was perfection. Then we had one of their wondefull desserts. I love this place and will continue to search it out every time I come to town."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed this restaurant. It's a small, cozy place to eat. Many of the tables are close together but we met a really nice couple next to us. The service and food were excellent The Waitress and Chef customized our meals and the couple next to us. We were very restrictive with our ingredients and the chef was able to come up with creative and delicious options while maintaining wonderful presentation. Price is moderate to high and portions were small to med. I would go back."
