We stopped in at Bascule for a post concert sip and were very pleasantly surprised. The interior has a hip, urban vibe, cement floors, minimalist furniture -interesting music that ranged from house to 70's oldies. I ordered a prosecco, my cousins wife ordered a Marlborough region Sauvignon Blanc and my cousin ordered an Italian red which unfortunately was not available. The staff really worked with him to find another wine that grew in a similar clime and would share the same properties. They suggested a Bordeaux which was absolutely delicious! As they did not have the bottle he had wanted they gave him the Bordeaux for the price of the Italian....nice touch! Food was great! we ordered two buns - one pulled pork, the other meatball, someone's Italian grandmother must have been in the kitchen - the meatball was fabulous! We also tried the flatbread of the day poached pear with arugula and feta cheese, delish! and a shrimp/quinoa salad that was also excellent! We left happy and will return!!

We have been to Bascule numerous times, but it looks like the restaurant is now permanently closed and no longer listed on OpenTable. That is very disappointing. Food is excellent, drinks are very good. One of the nicest options for dining on Taylor Street near UIC.

I don't know how they do it, but it's the juiciest, most delicious chicken ever made. Flatbread was delicious and appropriately sized for 2. Waiter recommended a really delicious and reasonably priced glass of wine. Dessert was a simple chocolate brownie somehow cooked to ooey-gooey perfection. Can't wait to go back!

Everything was great, from the drinks (mine was the Riesling cocktail with a peach ice cube) to the foods (arancini, grilled octopus, truffle cavatappi, chicken and lightly corn meal breaded fish & chips)

We found this place when we went by during the recent Taylor Street Fest, We walked in just to take a look. A friendly waiter asked us if we had questions. We stated just looking around and he then proceeded to show us around and provide us a mini wine tasting. We decided to come back 2 weeks later with 2 other couples. It was outstanding. Note only was our server Danielle very helpful with the menu she also helped with their outstanding wine list. We asked some questions about the wine and the next thing I know she is back with 3 bottles for us to try before we order. The wine list is not pretentious and they do not make you feel like an idiot if you ask some inane wine question. This is what we like. A fun, low key atmosphere with great food, drink and terrific service. The other couples we were with were both very happy with the choice. It was a fun night and we will definitely be back.
