A word from Bar.Vetro
Featuring dynamic cuisine in a sensual atmosphere, the most exciting Italian restaurant on the East Side is bar.vetro. Meaning "glass" in Italian, vetro refers to the muted green, transparent glass sheet that dominates the bar area, as if floating. The intimate dining room, decorated in cool grays and suffused with warm lavender light, is the perfect compliment to the innovative menu, which features small plates known as "assagi" throughout Italy, ideal for sharing with the table or sampling as a tasting dinner. In addition to their small plates bar.vetro also offers a wide variety of salads, pasta, chicken, fish and veal dishes.

Equally wonderful as an after-work drinks destination or as an all-night stop for dinner and a chance to experience its excellent, moderately priced wine selection, bar.vetro also features an outdoor seating area in a sunken garden just outside its front doors. Enjoy one of the house cocktails or one of 20 wines by the glass...

The hard plastic chairs and sparse decoration give the impression of a college dining hall and the food did nothing to change our minds. The waiter was uninterested in us and made no effort to make us feel welcome. That theme continued to the end as we requested, and then he produced dessert menus and once again disappeared. He returned a while later with the check having never inquired whether we were having coffee or dessert. We won't return.

I met my daughter at the bar for a drink during happy hour & we ended up staying for two drinks!! We then had a great dinner with ample portions. The food was very nicely presented and delicious! The server was very attentive yet not intrusive at all! We already have plans to go back; it's a great meeting place for us after work!

We were a group of 5 for dinner. 3 of us ordered Pasta, 1 order seafood and 1 ordered veal (I believe). The ambiance was fine; service good. The group did not particularly like the food. They commented the pasta was bland and the brown sauce on the fish didn't seem a good compliment. The appetizers however were quite good.

Consistently beautifully prepared fresh Italian dishes; no fuss, but worthy of a fancier setting. You can eat lightly at dinner: try the small plates and the excellent house San Giovese -- hard to beat.

In a neighborhood of overpriced and not particularly good restaurants, Bar Vetro is a real find. The staff is extremely friendly and efficient. The food is top of the line Italian food at a fraction of the cost of several nearby Italian restaurants. The wine list is extremely reasonably priced. It is a great find at a great value.

Had an enjoyable evening here with business associates. Great service, drinks and small plates. There were a few groups who had come after work for drinks and thus the noise level was a little high but everyone was enjoying themselves and it was not too bad in the dining area. The decor was a little plain. Could use some artwork on the walls. We had just a few items off the menu. Both were delicious. All in all a very nice place for drinks and a bite to eat. Service was very good and everyone in my group said they would definitely come back.

We got this recommendation from a friend who is a frequent NYC visitor. The restaurant is an easy 10 minute from the New York Hilton on 6th Avenue (aka Avenue of the Americas). The food was delicious in this small restaurant just south east of Central Park. We both had a salads, followed by pasta and duck (special of the day). Service at the bar is excellent (Anastasia). Some of the tables against the wall may be too far away from a window a little too enclosed for the claustrophobically inclined amongst us. We had a bottle of sparkling wine (chardonnay based methode champenoise), followed by a pretty good bottle of italian red. Both were very reasonably priced (below $ 40).

I couldn't get a larger (than 2) table even though the resturant was 3/4 empty. The owner kept saying he had reservations. When we left 2 1/2 hours later it was still 3/4 empty ( a Fri. nite in the summer) My fish was dry and tastless. The last time I was there the food was much better and so was the seating ( still for 2)

We were in NYC for a vacation during a heat wave. It happened to be my husbands birthday and he was looking forward to a particular dish they happen to be known for. When they said they had already sold out and he told them it was his birthday, the sent over a bottle of prosecco and offered some interesting items not on the menu. Super loud was my only real complaint but it took us out of our grumpy sweaty moods very quickly.
