  • "we were greeted and seated by a pleasant hostess. our server was friendly and helpful. they make a delicious paella. the wine list is a bit limited, but acceptable. the only problem was the noise level. it was difficult to have a conversation. overall, I would say it was very good. Perhaps come on a week night if you actually want to talk to your dinner date (we were there on a Friday evening) I will recommend it to my friends."

  • "Well, this is coming in a little late, but this has literally become our favourite restaurant ever. My (then fiancee, and now wife) introduced me to this place and I've since fell in love with it. Some may say I'm biased because I a) looooveee Spanish food, and b) it's my wife's favourite restaurant, but to those I say, "come and try it". The food.... what more can I say, it is AMAZING.... Every bite is a taste of sweet heaven on a fork (or spoon). I'm salivating right now just thinking about it.... mmmmm...... Anyways, prices are also reasonable (think Keg, but lots more options than steak), and the ambiance is great too. Small and candle lit. It says I can't type more :( Eat here. Now. Seriously :)"

  • "Baru Latino was a hit and miss for us, the staff were welcoming and very tentative, the Paella was awesome, but the Halibut was a little overcooked. That's understandable though, the dining room was full and groups sat down around the same time, it was a 3 person line (BUSY!). Maybe a revisit sometime in the future? Oh, nearly forgot, the Flan was SOOO good!"

  • "We were greeted warmly by Renee (one of the owner's I'm told), seated right away, and received very good and immediate service. Excellent 'dine out Vancouver' experience. Can't believe we had not found this neighbourhood gem before now! We will be back!, excellent food, service, ambiance, and friendly upbeat staff..... Thanks!,"

  • "Four of us went for the Dine out Vancouver and were very happy indeed with the food and service. Imaginative and tasty offerings which will definitely have us returning! We suspect this is a popular spot since it was hard to get a reservation at a later time and settled for 5pm. All dishes were excellent but my halibut was one of the best cooked and delicious ones I've had in town..some deft, expert hands at work in the kitchen! If you are a spicy wimp like me they will advise you which dishes to avoid but the level of flavours in all the dishes is very good indeed and has everyone saying 'what spice/herb /combination have they used in this dish?!' It was intriguing to experience new flavours.' Excellent'!! was our mutual comment."

  • "We have been to Baru about 5 times now and have never been disappointed. It has a nice atmosphere, staff, and a very casual vibe to it. When we saw it on the dine-out website, it was a no brainer. We have a 15 yr old daughter as well and it is one of her favorite restaurants to go to. She loves many of the dishes as well as the Virgin Mojitos. We will definitely be back again soon."

  • "With my collegues at work, tho/ we can only get a 9:30pm for our reservation, they called me when I sent them a message that we would prefer an earlier time if it is possible...they called & suggested that we can come in and sit on the bar and they'll try their best to find a table for the 4 of us asap when one is available..and they did; they kept us updated as well..the experience with the staff, the service and the food is Outstanding!! I am so happy, my colleagues kept on saying how much they love the place, the great service and the food. The dine-out food were all great tasting! Excellent flavour and presentation!! Delicious...We had Baru Paella, and the Crusted Halibut which is cooked right to perfection!! Appies & dessert, excellent!"

  • "Decided to try Baru Latino for Dine Out. What a find! If you enjoy food with a bit of spice and that's innovative when combining different ingredients, you've come to the right place. It was a busy night and our group of five had impeccable and attentive service. Kudos to management for fitting in our fifth person at the last might. They aim to please, and with a smile too. Can't wait to check out other menu items. Everyone enjoyed their selection."

  • "Even though Baru has been in the neighbourhood for ages, we'd never been there! Tried it out with the early seating for DineOut Vancouver. Really early: 5 pm. So, it was not full but enough people there to feel we were in good company. Also meant it was relatively quiet. I know it gets busy later on. Very friendly and humourous greeting on arrival--very welcoming. Very good menu. Attentive but not intrusive service. The meal was excellent, although portions were on the small side. Most delicious dessert! Will go back for sure. Recommended."

  • "My friends and I had to drive almost an hour to get there, but we were trying new places for Dine Out Vancouver. The food made every minute of that drive worth it. It was amazing. All of us plan to return again ASAP. Heck, I will make any excuse to drive back up there to eat again. Told everyone at work about the place as well."

  • "Just to summarized my experienced at Baru, service was OK our server was great at her job but the food on the other hand it's not worth it. We were disappointed at the food and the taste. Won't recommend this place to any of my friends and it'll be our first and last at this place."

  • "Nice place with a nice staff. The red ceviche was amazingly fresh but that's where the good food stopped. the fish tacos were short on meat and the tortillas were cold. Empanadas were deep fried and flavorless. Boneless short ribs were not bad. Drinks are weak. Tasted good but watered down. Chocolate cake dessert was fair. Hot and gooey but uninspired. My recommendation would be to not rely on the deep drier so much and keep the food simple like the ceviche. Nice staff, nice place but the food and drinks are on the level with Cactus Club. If you are looking for an example of what I find to be a great restaurant at the same price point, check out Pourhouse in Gastown."

  • "Friendly staff, excellent food, delicious wine. We got there early because we had to be someplace at 7, so we had the place to ourselves for a while. It's a very cozy space -- which filled up by the time we left, so make a reservation. We had one of the ceviches on the menu, as well as halibut and a short ribs plate. All excellent! Lots of variety on the menu, and I can't wait to go back to try some more of it."

  • "We had an overnight trip to Vancouver so I went on line to find a dinner spot and came across Baru. We love vibrant flavors so the menu looked enticing. We arrives early and were seated right away, we were ahead of the evening rush. We decided to go for tapas so we would have a variety of flavors. Each item had its own distinct flavor and all arrived in equal intervals. We had the Baru ceviche, beef empanadas, arepas con chorizo and the wonderful short rib. Drinks were well made and tasty as well. If we lived closer than 200 miles, we would be regulars."

  • "First time dining here and we tried a lot of items off the menu - everyone in our group loved the food and drinks. Try the mojitos - truly delicious!"

  • "This time, we decided to go tapas style and shared 3 plates between us. The mussels with chorizo was outstanding and is probably their signature dish. The chorizo added just enough kick and smoke to broth and mussels. The vegetables were crisp and fresh. We moved on to the sopa roja, very similar to mussels without smoke, maybe not the best second choice on our part. Halibut tacos were fine, with good, fresh mango salsa, but they can't beat the ones off the beach in Sayulita, I 'm afraid. There is just no substitute for fish caught an hour ago. A lively house with good music, but not too loud for conversation. There are quiet corners as well. Service was friendly, but not intrusive."

  • "Many years ago I visited this restaurant after it opened. The food was excellent, but it took over an hour to get it. As a result, I hadn't been back until now. It took over 20 minutes before someone came to get our drink order -- by which time we obviously ordered our food. Food came quickly, so the problem now appears to be solely the servers. They walk with heads down so they won't accidentally make eye contact. We wanted to ask about an ingredient in one dish, and the server didn't come back to check on things for ages. It was a Thursday night, and the restaurant had plenty of empty tables. It's too bad, because the food is excellent and unusual in Vancouver."

  • "I love this place - I've gone many times since discovering it a few months ago. Every time the items have been just incredibly flavored -- the smashed plantains with the ceviche, the steak chimichurri .. delish! I would recommend going a few times so you can try everything on their menu. Also their Mojito's are excellent -- not too sweet. We ordered a jug ... it was a good idea. I also had their mango creme brulee ... which was perfect and flavorful too. Nice people, nice vibe. Will go again!"

  • "This is my second time at Baru, and the food and service were equally superior both visits. i went with my husband on the first visit, and a colleague the second visit so I was able to experience the restaurant from two different perspectives. From the time you walk in the door until the time you leave, service is attentive, professional and friendly. The food is a wonderful, refreshing change from the standard chain restaurants even though the price points are similar. I would highly recommend Baru to anyone who enjoys quality, tasty food in a low-key and unique social setting. I will definitely be back again."

  • "Although I could say this place is "too cool for school", that would be missing the point, even if it were true.. Baru Latino is a regular 'go to" spot because of its people, the food, and the location. My wife and I arrived on a busy Friday evening at the designated time and while we were not seated at the reservation time, we were seated at the bar for about 15 minutes happily with drinks as the place was packed and ticking on all cylinders. The wisdom of the owners and the staff make this a very happening spot but THE FOOD and DRINK is the kicker.. Try the steak chimichurri or the short ribs we had were exemplary and ethereal.. The mojito is the house specialty ..try one!"
