  • "Loved the Poutine, my Canadian friends said it's one of the best they have had in the states! The drinks were great, loved the bloody Mary's! The brunch items, not so much. All of the brunch items we low on protein, lots of potatoes and rice. My friend ordered a dish with chicken wings and the meaty part of the wings were removed, strange. I will go back, but will stick with the regular menu items."

  • "This was my first dining experience at Barter. The location is great with very nice outdoor seating, minus the initially very loud music. My friend and I moved seats and they eventually turned it down. Our waiter unfortunately greeted us with a frown...perhaps because the lunch crowd was dead at 1p or perhaps he was having a rotten day. I had the wedge salad, which was a large portion. There was far too much dressing, and it wasn't tangy enough for my preference. If you are gluten-sensitive, this is probably not the best place for you. Most menu items included something fired or with bread. The entrees were also quite pricey ($20+) even for lunch. The design of the space is gorgeous, but the food options probably won't entice me to return."

  • "Great ambiance! We enjoyed the food, cocktails and live music as well! Our only complaint is that our waiter was terrible. He was difficult to understand, not familiar with the specials (or couldn't verbalized them), wasn't on top of providing silverware or drinks etc. It was also impossible getting someone on the phone prior to arriving. Other than that, we really thought Barter had a cool vibe and really enjoyed the live music! Hopefully, they will improve the service and bring it up to the standard they are trying to achieve."

  • "The large table of 20 next to us ruined the evening for my 3 dining companions because we were in the backroom and you could not hear anything with this annoying and very loud group. But thankfully the food helped make a bad evening less bad. Server tried his best to provide great service. A suggestion to the restaurant might be to hold groups to no more than 10 in the back room. Its just too small for a loud large group. We enjoyed the food and as soon as we got done we got out and went next door and sat outside at the bar at Del Frisco Grill so we could talk and actually enjoy each others company. I would try it again but never in the back room with a large group."

  • "We took some friends of ours that were in from out of town to Barter and we were very impressed. The restaurant has a very cool vibe and décor, almost like a speak easy feel. The glasses our drinks were served in were unique and added to the experience. As far as food goes, it was fantastic! We each ordered a different dish and shared. (the food: the proprietary burger, gulf snapper, striped bass tostado, barter salad). We will definitely be going back!"

  • "We chose to eat lunch here today due to the 1000 pt. table offered through OpenTable. We were certainly sorry we did. Horrific traffic and parking conditions. We ordered tenderloin sandwich and pulled pork sandwich, and would rate them both a 5 or 6 out of 10. Server was nice, but certainly forgettable. When asked about what flavor of iced tea the restaurant served, the response was "just Lipton." Hostess was friendly, but not enough to save this bad experience. 1000 pts or not, we won't be back. Sorry."

  • "For lunch I had BLT and chips, the bread was to greasy and way to much salty bacon. BLT should be light and fresh sandwich not greasy and salty like burger. But manager did resolved the issue and brought me a salad instead because they didn't want me to leave hungry, so I'll give them that. Good job on service but need to step up with a better lunch menu over all. "

  • "I went with two colleagues for lunch on a weekday, and it was completely dead. Including us there were only a total of 5 tables filled throughout the entire prime lunch hour. I was puzzled given the restaurant's location and its fairly nice decor (upscale southern), until we got our food. I won't say it was bad, but it was mediocre at best. Dishes that sounded like they should be delicious were disappointing. There are so many restaurants in uptown where the food is outstanding that I'm not optimistic this place will be around for long."

  • "We were really anticipating a great evening. I ordered the lamb chops which could easily been split with my friend who ordered the same. Someone else ordered the Twin Pasta which was very unappetizing looking and the sausage hard, the chicken thigh part of the dish was very good. Our fourth diner ordered the hamburger with a number of sides, all left uneaten. The carrot french fries were charred and not tasty, the brussel sprouts were just okay. Disappointing."

  • "We had been to Barter recently just for drinks and thought we should come back to try their food. Big mistake....the food was so bad we will never be back. The Twin Pasta was so salty that we could barely eat it. The Crispy Branzoni was very bland. The recommended moonpie dessert was more marshmallow than chocolate or peanut butter. The rootbeer float that came with it was undrinkable. We were very disappointed."

  • "The host and the service was great. I had a big group, so it was sometimes slow, but everyone was patient, friendly and accommodating. The food though, was not so great. And no one in my group thought it was worth the high prices. My food had very little taste, which is heard when it involves bacon. The drink list though seemed awesome. I was there for a work lunch so couldn't order a drink but I'll definitely go back and check out their bar scene. "

  • "Admittedly, my husband and I visited Barter to try the food, not revel in the ambiance. We were seated next to the most obnoxious table. They were loud and disturbing the tables around them. Unfortunately the food wasn't good enough to overcome this. Truthfully, even if the environment had been more relaxed, I still would have left saying, "Meh, it was okay." The poutine did nothing to distinguish itself from the gravy-smothered fries everyone else is serving right now. The "Coke float" that came with dessert was a float in name only. More like a thimble of Coke with the odd texture of what once was ice cream. It seemed to be the first thing made in our dessert when it should have been the last."

  • "We were very excited to dine at Barter last Saturday night as I had been to the bar previously. The dining side this particular night was very dissappointing. Our waiter (for a table of 5) missed the mark on many areas...including being friendly, having any clue on the menu both food or cocktail lists, keeping cocktails and water flowing, checking in to see if we needed anything, or just being an enthused server. Definitely seem like he had already checked out and wanted us gone. The place was not busy so would assume tips might be welcomed from us. The waiter helping t. he table next to us seemed to have gone to the same wait staff academy as he was very condescending to his table and downright rude. Atleast we didn't have him...."

  • "Time Love does it again in Uptown Dallas. A cool rustic setting gives life to reenergized unique takes on classic dishes. Chili Crab Fajitas, Roasted Chicken Pasta, Shrimp &Toast, and more reflect the classic Tim Love style. The charcuterie board is artfully layed out as a starter with a couple home made sausages, hand selected cheeses, and pickled fruits and veggies. Cocktails were unique and well layered to compliment the tone of the restaurant. All in all a great experience that would lend a second return to sample more of the excellent menu."

  • "When think back on my life, there are the restaurants and dives that seem to blend with my soul... Those places that feel like the comfort of a warm blanket on a Sunday afternoon. Barter might just be one of those joints. If there is any piece of Texas that has invaded your soul, it will resonate when you step into the rustic but refined, casual and comfortable atmosphere. And the food... Come hungry. It's like your favorite BBQ joint had a love child with really good food festival. And the drinks... If you don't know Rocco then you don't know jack."

  • "We had a great first experience. Cocktails were amazing and the food was fresh and delicious. Love the option of ordering the small dishes as appetizers to share with the table. Large dish favorites were the chili crab fajitas and the crispy bronzini. We stayed with cocktails and never moved to wine, but all my favorites are on their list. Service was just the right amount of attention, and the timing of the food was perfect. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "The bar was one of the most comfortable I've been to for a drink w friends: nice decor, super comfortable barstools, attentive service. The bartender even "created" a vodks jalapeño drink I asked for. The dining room was nice. Comfortable seating & good light. We sat in front of the private room & there was an incessant beeping noise that almost caused us to leave. Our server said it was from "the projector" . Not enjoyable. Service was very attentive & we shared several small plates. Very good. Crab Fajitas were terrific. The valet dented my car & of course didn't point it out. I called Barter the next day & though the manager was "sorry" she was quick to point out that they are "totally separate" from the Valet co."
