A word from Barrio Restaurant
Inspired by the tastes, smells and festive atmosphere of Latin America and Spain, Barrio, meaning neighborhood or community, aims to further instill downtown Columbus with a type of relationship typical to Latin culture. A true tapas restaurant, Barrio’s small plate menu features authentic Latin dishes, which are perfectly complemented by a wine list heavy with the flavors of South America and Spain. Like many Latin American neighborhoods, Barrio prides itself as being a gathering place designed with the concept of cohesive spaces, sharing and diversity.
The architecture can be best described as sophisticated yet relaxed, juxtaposed against an urban backdrop. The interior’s brick and natural wood slabs make the environment rustic and chic. Barrio also houses a large upstairs space perfect for private events. The simple, yet stylish space overlooks the lights and scenes of downtown Columbus and is quickly becoming a locally coveted space for parties and special occasions.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2009

The ambience and energy of the restaurant was good. The service and overall experience was poor. It took 15-20 min. before receiving water or even being greeted by our server. Apparently, she was not made aware that she was taking care of us. The food was fair, but not good enough to overlook the service issue. At the conclusion of dinner, despite what appears to be fair number of bus persons and servers, empty plates sat on the table till the end. Additionally, we were not offered dessert, coffee, or after dinner drink, but we were happy to take care of the bill and leave. Lastly, the bill was incorrect as I had to point out that we were charged the full $10 cocktail charge for a non-alcoholic bloody mary. Will not return.

Love this restaurant! Went here with friends for a girls' night and had a great time. Our waitress was very friendly, the food was great (love the selection of authentic tapas), and the outdoor seating is fantastic (right on the street)! Meals run about $11-13, depending on what you get (we shared a selection of meats, cheeses, and small plates). Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to have a nice night out with friends or even for a date!

As always, our experience at Barrio was exceptional. The food is always an exciting adventure. It gives you a great way to experience new types of food and food preparation. Everything we ordered was delicious and we even re-ordered the Empanadas. Our server was attentive and friendly. He added to our experience.

the food was good but the service was horrible. it was my five year anniversary so we went out for a nice diner. i had ate at barrio once before and it was amazing. so i decided to make reservations and take my girlfriend out and have a good time. the food was ok this time around definitely was not as good. the service was awful tho. our server seemed like she had no desire to be at work in the first place let alone deal with serving people. she had only one other table. it took over ten minutes to get our appetizer order and walked away when i was going to place our main order. our server was eating, texting, and talking to other servers wile our drinks were empty. we received better service from the bus boy than our server.

Food was OK at best. The service was mixed. The waiter was excellent but the hostess station was an embarrassment. Unfortunately the restaurant maintains the cliche of hiring hostesses with vacuous looks on their faces dressed as if they're going to a cheap club. Doesn't jive with the overall ambiance of the place and sets a bad tone from the outset. Upgrade, folks.

Barrio had a nice ambiance with a rustic, yet contemporary feel, which my wife and I enjoyed. The food was prepared very well and had good taste. Personally, I wish there was a larger beer selection, but I also understand there is a certain cultural theme to stick to. Overall, it was a very nice experience and one that would be good for those looking for a change of pace.

Apart from the spicy tomato bisque, we found the food to be very bland. My hubbys steak was tender and juicy but didn't have ANY flavor. My scallops were perfectly cooked, but were topped and surrounded by sauces and veggies that were either lacking flavor or didn't pair well with anything else on the plate. In short: swanky-hip restaurant setting, food didn't live up to the hype.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 4/2/2012
Visiting Columbus for our daughter's orientation at Ohio State, we googled dining and found this restaurant. Its menu intrigued us and we decided to try it. The tapas style food was interesting, not spectacular but innovative. We like off-the-beaten-path cuisine and approve and try to patronize restaurants that dare to serve something different. Our review is a mix of "good effort" and "not yet there". Tapas are a Spaniard culinary invention, so you expect some of the Spanish cuisine to show up, in that sense, it was not very authentic. Some dishes were spot on, such as the scallops and the little empanadas. The sangria was horrible, though, stay away from it.

We dined there this past Sunday after church. They had a fun bluegrass Duo performing, which was a nice value-added on a Sunday. The BLT Sliders were very good! THEONION
    Dined on 3/27/2012
I was at Barrio's last summer and had the best time. The waiter was very helpful and made the experience enjoyable. Not this time. We asked the server for recommendations and what were popular selections, and all he said was "everything is good". That really isn't very helpful. There were 4 of us who ordered and he brought out 3 of the dishes and after about 15 minutes, the 4th item came out without a word. He was aloof and unattentive. Pretty much had an attitude. There were other servers around, and they appeared to show the same attitude - it was not a busy night (3/27/12). For the price of the food I expect better service. I can certainly spend my money elsewhere. Although the food was good, I will not go back.

Most of the food was good although do NOT get the Fried Potato as they were nothing more than Bob Evan's hash-browns. The service was slow and to start off the night, she got our drink order wrong even after asking us twice which sangria we wanted. The most disappointing part of this experience was that even after telling our waitress it was my wife's birthday, and also writing it on my Open Table reservation, which apparently no one read, our waitress did not do anything to celebrate it. In fact, she didn't even offer us the dessert menu.

I went to Bario to dine with an old friend. The food was good and our waiter wasn't terrible but not real helpful but the place seemed short staffed as the time after we sat before we could order a drink dragged on. It took forever to get our waiter to stand still long enough to take our order and once we ordered some food it was another long wait until it arrived. Whenever I am in a new place I usually ask the staff to recommend something they like and I usually get good advice. When I asked our waiter for his recommendations for something we should try he proceeded to read the menu to me and said it was all good. Not really helpful there. When I get back to Columbus I am not sure if I would try Bario again.

The restaurant was fair to good. There was nothing too special about the restaurant that made it stand out from others like it. It is also in a pretty bad location for down town, not too close to any foot traffic or big attraction which certainly hurts business. While the food was somewhat mediocre, i was surprised at how empty it was at 7:30 on St. Patrick's Day. I don't think Barrio will be around much longer.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 3/17/2012
Because I was early, prior to the dinner rush on a Saturday, I had hoped to have a tasty dinner, based on feedback from colleagues. What I recieved were uninspired Tapas, inattentive service and a less-than-satisfactory experience. While the calimari was fried spot-on, the sauce was pretty ordinary. The bacon wrapped dates had bacon and a sauce, but the dates were lost in the mix. The cheesey fondue with taco chips, that doesn't appear on the electronic menu, was also forgettable. Clearly the wait staff was doing me a favor, merely answering the question, "Is someone serving this table?" The reply, "Did the hostess sit you there?" --Must have landed at a different Barrio's from what had been described to me.

We've been coming here since they first opened but this is the first time we have been back since the menu changed. Not sure if they are under new management or not. What we did notice is that we were there on a Friday night and were given a table upstairs and there was no one else up there. In the past, the place would have been packed on a Friday night with every table full. I wonder if "Explorers Club" is stealing business from them. We shared many small plates and everything was very good, but there was nothing that was spectacular. Overall it was a very good meal and I am sure that someone who had never been here would enjoy it.

We were greeted at the host stand and walked to a table where our table looked directly onto a curtain. The guest with me would have been 3 feet from staring a curtain the whole time. We move to another spot. The appetizers were good but one of them had a weird cheese type smore item that did not make sense and the serving platters were so big that we barely had space for our own plates. My entree was the grouper and it was so overcooked I could barely cut it with a knife and fork. I notified the server and he told the manager. The manager took a bit to get over to the table and did not apoligize he just stated " a bit overcooked huh?". They credited the meal without ever telling me and just brought us the check.

I took my girlfriend to Barrios for Valentine's Day and we were both very impressed with the food and quality of service. Our waiter was very polite and helped recommend a couple appetizers from their Valentine's Day menu. The tequila fondu and bacon-wrapped dates were absolutely delicious. My only complaint was the location of our table. We were right next to the cash register/counter area where there was a lot of constant traffic from the wait staff. Would have had a lot nicer ambiance had we been seated at one of several other open tables more central to the dining area.
