I am amazed that a restaurant that is romantic and has a notable wine list, is also kid friendly. It simply boils down to service. GREAT service! If I have a child with me, the server is friendly and anticipates my needs so I may enjoy my meal. If I am there with family or friends, the server is engaging! Keep this in mind, I have been in hotel and restaurant jobs from age 15 and I'm now forty something so I like to think that I ask more aware of the serving process than some others. This time I brought 2 friends that had never been before and they loved it. I wasn't surprised at all!! Our party of four loved everything, especially the shrimp appetizer withe the julienne vegetables and wontons. The food was yummy - crab and corn soup was the best and lots of lump crab in the crab cakes. The waiter was pleasant and knowledgeable. The menu seemed overly reliant on pork products, but the grilled salmon three of us ordered and the crab and pasta dish requested by the fourth won raves.
I, alone, had wine, a generous glassful. Our server, wonderfully attentive and always smiling, replenished the soft drinks without being summoned. In fact, from the moment we entered, half an hour earlier than our reservation time, the staff seemed primed for friendly accommodation. When we entered and gave our name to the host (for our reservation) we were asked if we were there for any special occasion. My wife replied that it was our wedding anniversary. By the time our server appeared, it seemed that all the staff associated with our table knew about our celebration. Barrett's even gave us our dessert free in recognition of our anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed the food, ambience, and service. The service was wonderful, the food was very good, the atmosphere was great.
The one thing I have to point out was that there was a gentleman who seem to be the owner, or the manager, who spent all night paying attention to just two specific tables, and never checked up on any other tables, whoever he was and whoever the customers were, I think we all deserve attention and acknowledgement when dinning in your establishment5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome Food and Great ServiceWe went to the movies at Hunt Valley Towne Center and decided to hit Barrett's for a late dinner. The food and service was outstanding. The restaurant was busy and everyone was on their game. We had the lobster roll which was all fresh pieces of lobster tossed with a nice herb sauce. The soft shell crabs were fresh and tasty which was a feature for the night. They are a must if Barrett's has them in for the day. We will definitely be back soon for another great meal at Barrett's.
