Diner Reviews
  • "I researched this on Trip Advisor and the paellas had mixed reviews so I stayed away from them. The tapas were well presented, tasted very good and very generous portions, in fact, four tapas were more than enough for two. I enjoyed the Serrano ham, the mushrooms were delectable and as was the potatoes. The rioja sangria was a bit disappointing and I do not think I would order sangria again as I have had much better at other places. Overall however the service was great, the food delicious and in a perfect spot in the village. I would revisit Barraca so I can try other things on their tapas menu as overall it as an enjoyable experience."

  • "Food - good, but many things listed on menu were unavailable (we were told in the first 5 min), even classic tapas items (calamari, octopus, peppers, mushrooms) & no daily specials in a half empty place at 7pm (I would have understood if it was a busy late night, and they ran out of supplies). Service - decent. No birthday perks provided. Issue with the cake we brought (+ our own knife, platter, candles) & asked them to refrigerate - without giving us a chance to agree, they cut the cake & tried to charge us $5 fee each x 5 of us = $25 (silly for a $25 cake). We asked to speak with the manager, the waitress checked & waived the fee. I would not return unless they have a full menu. And don't bring a cake - they will want to charge you!"

  • "The reviews make the place looks better than the real thing. The place needs to redress itself, it looks very modest for what they charge foe dinner. The service is attentive but they should improve the way they dress(too casual ) The food is rely below par. I hope other people read this and goes there knowing what to expect"

  • "I really enjoy this place - delicious food, good prices and super nice staff. Great for groups - very kid friendly (we had a 2 yr old who had a tantrum and they were still nice to us). The Kale Pizza is the best!"

  • "Very delicious food, and our waiter helped us order everything. i think it was a little lacking for vegetarians, but I made do. Margs were also fantastic."

  • "I have been here for brunch and tapas several times and it has been consistently great. The food is delicious and the service attentive and fast. The place tends to be busy but the tables are spaced sufficiently far apart that it doesn't feel crowded. It continues to be a neighborhood favorite for us."

  • "We came with a big group and had a great, large round table in the back. Sangria was excellent--especially the Valencia! And we were vegetarians, so there were lots of options. The kale salad and broccoli tapas were spectacular!"

  • ". This weekend we went to barraca, and were sat in Melibea, I knew they were the same owners, but did not realize that it was so connected. The service was terrible. The food was good, but not good enough to warrant bad service. Hostess forgot to seat us, resulting in us being sat in the sister restaurant next door Were given the brunch menu instead of the dinner menu (waited for 30 minutes) before even being brought water, or for us to ask for a dinner menu. Still waited another 10 minutes to order, which resulted in us ordering over an hour after our dinner reservation. Ordered drinks and one was forgotten, forgot other food we ordered. Service picked up once our food was being served... but it was truly terrible and I will not return"

  • "I went to Baracca on Sunday, April 27, 2014 for brunch with a coupon deal I received from Urban Daddy. I ordered the steak off the menu and was surprised at how bland it was. I had to ask the waiter for salt and pepper to season it and it took some time before I received the salt and pepper. There was also too much of a time lapse between ordering drinks and receiving food and between finishing food and getting the check. "

  • "We had Urban Daddy vouchers, but a friend didn't- and it was still a great experience. The food was delicious, the service was great, and the drinks were awesome. You can do bottomless sangria for $15 (1.5 hours)- well priced and great sangria!"

  • "Food took almost two hours to arrive because of an error in the kitchen. When it finally did, we only received half of the items we ordered. Waiter was unapologetic and evasive. Terrible experience all around."

  • "My experience at Barraca was definitely worth it. I was with a group for a friend's birthday and everything went perfectly. We all had an amazing and memorable time. Our server Eugene made the day what it was. The food and drinks were great. Very tasty Spanish food with a unique twist. Definitely recommend it to anyone looking for great food and a great time!"

  • "I purchased the unlimited sangria brunch deal through Urban Daddy and it was great. Definitely got a good deal out of it (at least 4-5 drinks and anything off the menu). Food was good but nothing incredible and the many sangria options were fun and not overly fruity. Good atmosphere and space. Service was good except took a while to get a couple things (another drink/straw etc)."

  • "I visited Barraca last Sunday for brunch with friends. We had bought a deal on UrbanDaddy and it was a $25 bottomless brunch. We could pick 1 entree + bottomless sangria for 2 hours. We ordered a couple of tapas as well - the dates wrapped in bacon & the bruschetta (my favorite of the two). I ordered the Huevos Benedictos, with Serrano ham, and it was really good! The sangria was amazing too. I tried a few different kinds and they were all really fresh. Unfortunately, our service was lackluster. Our waitress was covering the outdoor space as well and barely came back to check on us. So we had to ask other servers for more sangria and only had 3 drinks each in the 2 hours we were there. I'd go back for the food, but the service was poor."

  • "When Barraca started to follow me in Instagram I knew he was the one! I needed a spacious locale for a brunch date with a couple friends. We loved it so much we were there from 2-8. Quiet a brunch eh? The music was energetic just like the ambiance. The food was superb. The staff was a bit slow but considering the amount of people this place generated , its understandable. The sangria were to die for. We will all definitely be returning!"

  • "Two pitchers of sangria and seemed like we were drinking juice. Didn't taste like there was even any wine in it. Also the eggs benedicto was pretty dismal"

  • "Decent food & sangria but service needs an improvement. The wait staff failed to check up on us throughout the meal - we had to flag people down as they were constantly forgetting things. It took forever for us to get our food & drinks. The staff continued to open the door right in front of our table despite us repeatedly asking for them to close it as it was relatively windy and chilly out. There are too many other great places in the city to go to - I wouldn't recommend this place"

  • "Although it was a relatively warm evening (around 45 degrees), they had the heat pumping through the hot bench which was practically cooking our bottoms. The waiter confirmed the hot air emanating from between our legs and it was shut off temporarily. It went back on and became so uncomfortable that we had to leave. Several tapas were good including tomato bread and Serrano ham. The meatballs were wimpy. We shared a paella which was very disappointing. I have been to Spain many times and have eaten good (and bad) paellas. For 50 bucks (for 2) I would expect something more than some burnt rice and a smattering of sorry looking shellfish. Despite leaving a paella pan three quarters full, no one bothered to ask her about our meal."

  • "This place never disappoints! The food is awesome (especially the paella) and the service is always exceptional! I have been here for numerous dinners and love coming for special occasions (birthdays etc.) because it is always a memorable night. This time, we had ordered some appetizers and when our paella didn't come out right away (20 minutes tops), our attentive waiter brought us two extra appetizers on the house! This is truly one of my favorite NYC restaurants."

  • "I went with a group of friends for brunch and the food and drinks were good. The waitor was new and didn't know much about the menu and didn't seem to try and find out any answers to our questions. We went a little later in the day and they ran out of some of the different sangrias and didn't seem like they would be making any more. We used an urbandaddy perk and the check came to us messed up then once fixed and paid the manager came back to us to say we still had a balance because the waitor did not add his tip. The check already had a tip included and I have never heard of a restaurant messing up a check then making the customer pay a balance as it was their fault. Minus the these issues and food and space was good."

  • "Great brunch offerings, went with a group of 10 and they had no problems accommodating us. Add $15 to your entree for unlimited sangria during brunch. Tried multiple flavors and they were all delicious!"

  • "First, to be fair, we went during restaurant week. Table all the way in the back, no view, kitchen noises and smells. Service wasn't very good because the place was crowded. All of that's forgivable but the food was just mediocre. Not a single dish was memorable and several were weak. Walk into any tapas place in Spain and you'll get better food. The wine list is good, but it's also pricey. I expected a lot more from the former chef of Gastroarte uptown, which was delicious and inventive and sophisticated. There's nothing inventive, delicious or sophisticated going on at Barraca unfortunately."

  • "I was underwhelmed by Barraca. The paella was bland and the other tapas were unimpressive. If you are looking for authentic tapas, I would not recommend Barraca."

  • "Despite it was a restaurant week menu, food was very good and right amount of portion for our group. Amazing service, didn't have to wait long, wonderful hospitality. Only issue was the limited wine list, didn't have several wines that was on their previous list."

  • "I had been to Barraca once before, so was looking forward to returning with a friend. The service here was great -- friendly hosts and wait staff and a nice, chic atmosphere. Also, the sangria was awesome! We absolutely loved our drinks. The problem was the paella. I have never had a paella that was more bland. The table to our left asked for salt and pepper; the table to our right did the same. My friend and I simply left 2/3 of the paella, eating the fish but figuring the rest frankly wasn't worth the calories. I would recommend this restaurant for drinks at the bar, but I can't commend the food. For a bill over $100, I really expected better."
