The food was wonderful, the staff was incredibly attentive, and the atmosphere, was romantic. When you pull up to the restaurant, you imagine something small and cramped. Once inside, the place was clean, warm, and romantically lit, with very little fanfare. I like a place that is clean lined and warm, a simpler affair, and where the food really shines. The chef here really knows what he's doing.

Small, out-of-the-way place in Pacifica with an intimate atmosphere. The New Year's wine pairing dinner was delicious and there was a festive atomosphere. A good place for a casual dinner, or a special occaision with a frequently vaired menu.

  • Barolo New Year's Eve Chef Pairing
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 12/31/2012
Went to Barolo for a New Year's Eve "Chef's Pairings" dinner with, of course, wine pairings! We've attended a couple of Barolo's dinner classes on wine pairings led by Wine Director Donald Graham which increased our appreciation for Italian wines. What was an added touch is that when we arrived for our reservation, we were seated in Donald Graham's section and recieved first class treatment from him. The crab bisque was superb, the two "twin lobsters" were cooked to perfection and came with tenderling potatoes and butternut squash. The finale was a chocolate panna cotta with a cinnamoned pear! We left quite full and the prices were very reasonable!

The soup was outstanding, but the main course was way two salty for both of us, I had the two main lobster tails, fingerlings & squash (squash was perfect)& my mom had the new york steak cooked to perfection but the gnocchi was too rich with the cheese & salty, her greens were almost raw and stringy (I'm not sure but I think it was arugula, it really needed to be blanched because it was so stiff and stringy). The chocolate pana cotta was too sweet but my blood orange sorbet was the best ever, very refreshing. We didn't add the wine pairing because of the holiday and driving.

This was our second visit to Barolo; works very well for those of us from the City who have friends in Half Moon Bay and similar areas of the coast. My husband raved about the Cesar salad and my persimmon salad was excellent as well. The entrees included Linguine with Clams, Bucatini and pot roast, all of which got rave reviews. The kitchen got my personal award for excellence in customer service when they took back my beef carpaccio, which came out garnished differently from what I had requested, and promptly returned it looking gorgeous and with the parmesan, truffle cream, greens and olive oil on the side, perfectly presented. All done by the server who was continuouly cheerful even when they were all ready to go home. Don't hesitate!

We took friends out for a birthday celebration and were not disappointed. We all had the reasonably priced Chef's tasting menu which includes a choice of soup or salad; a wide selection of entres, as well as dessert selection. We also shared a carafe of quite good house chianti. The home made soup was outstanding and the Caesar salad was uniquely displayed and delicious. Three of us had the petrale sole and it was perfectly prepared. Their signature dessert consists of ice cream, with an espresso shot, chocolate sauce and whipped cream and should not be missed. Plus, the waiter comped our birthday guest with a dish of pears marinated in port which were wonderful. We all look forward to our next visit.

This is one of the few places in Pacifica you can get a good meal. I had the heirloom tomatoes and cheese to start and the salmon special for dinner. My 7 year old likes the kids menu here. ONLY DOWNSIDE-they play old Italian movies on a tv. I like the concept but the tv should be in the entry way or hallway. Not in the dining room,

I've been going to Barolo for a few years now and I have never been disappointed. Everything on their menu is fantastic and authentic. I recommend it to friends and people new to the area and they are blown away with the quality of food. This time I came with a new date and no surprise she was impressed. I came on Fog Fest weekend and they were much busier than usual; normally it's very quiet and sort of slow-paced. I had the lamb shanks and polenta after sharing a couple of appetizers (gorgonzola stuffed figs and prosciutto with peaches), we shared the hazelnut gelato and vanilla panna cotta with brandied cherries for dessert. Everything was amazing. If you are looking for high-quality food look no further.

  • Wine Class in Pacifica!
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 9/19/2012
Barolo hosts a monthly dinner with wine pairings. Wine director, David Graham, described each wine and which region it was from in southern Italy, how it paired with the food and gave some history of winemaking in southern Italy. Family style seating at a long banquet table that would hold 18 people (there were only 2 vacant seats left). As the evening progressed, guests enjoyed conversing with each other - all locals from Pacifica. The chef is talented and we enjoyed butternut squash bisque, roasted lamb shank with parmesean polenta and a white chocolate bread pudding - all paired with either red or white southern Italian (or Greek) wines! Great find in Pacifica in the Pedro Point area! Will definitely return.

We ate on two nights one week when we were in the area visiting. The calamari steak was good but not great. The bucatini and clam sauce was pleasant but the pasta was not al dente. The second night we were with friends, and had two very good appetizers including the grilled peaches with prosciutto. The wine list was good, and their house chianti was a very good value.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 6/13/2012
Barolo is a little gem, tucked away in an otherwise mundane corner of Pacifica. The restaurant is small, but they offer a couple of rooms for special events. The ambiance is fairly neutral and the noise level a little bit high when the room is full. On a week night, that's not an issue. The drink menu is interesting, the the wine selection is reasonably priced. The dinner menu is based on fresh and local meat, fish and veggies - everything is prepared to order. Although the general influence is Italian and they feature pizzetta and pasta dishes, there is plenty to choose from that is "gluten free" for those who have this requirement. Our meals arrived in timely fashion, nicely plated and hot. The service is friendly but correct.
