BarnyardThe service was awesome. IThe service was awesome. I liked the beer selection and atmosphere. The octopus and the pork terrine were really great. I didn't love the rabbit. But I'd like to come back and try some other things.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Little gemThis restaurant is relatively new and already a point of reference in Venice. Tuck away from the overly sleak Abbot Kinney, The Barnyard is a real gem.
The ambience is simple warm and welcoming. The service informal but attentive. The food however is the real attraction. It is inventive and sophisticated without being pretentious. They have a lot of small plates which are a jurney to discover new flavours an taste combinations. The chef is clearly creative and talented.
So far probably one I my favourite spots in Venice!
Dan6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMPheonomenal experience. ThePheonomenal experience. The food is unparalleled _ fresh, local, creative, diverse. Orata crisply prepared with brocolini, Caesar salad robust flavor, rissoto with English peas and tomatoes - culinary hits. Great music, happy staff make for a wonderful experience. Chef Jessie Barber has a winner!6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome lunch and dinnerEvery dish we had was amazing! Crudo was excellent, as was their caesar salad. Incredible braised octopus appetizer! Best I've ever had. We shared the wild salmon entree which was awesome - I normally hate salmon, and the rabbit special. Desert was great two. Only choice of 2 but both great! Can't wait to go back.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was my second time...I really liked it. I would have appreciated a couple of vegan options (although staff were accommodating and did make sure that my dish was dairy-free)...
The bar tender is awesome and friendly...
We had to remind our server about our kale salad. It was brought after the main course.
The manager (owner?) was friendly and attentive as was the host.
I like the decor...and love the plates.
The olives are amazing...Nice touch about serving them warm :)
We both ended up ordering the rice dish..Could have been a tad bigger portion.
Wine was awesome, and the server was great about letting us try a couple of wines before we found the one.
Will come again but would probably come more frequently if vegan options were available.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGood tasting bites.Everything we ate from the Octopus starter to the Rabbit entre was excellent and unique. The beer was sensational and they have a small but solid wine by the glass selection while reasonably priced. Server was a bit pretentious and encouraged us to over-order which is never a good thing. We thought better and kept the ordering to 3 plates and we're perfectly satisfied. Desert was basic but good, we had the chocolate Mousse and the shards of salt set it off. Server would be better suited for Beverly HIlls or Brentwood, a bit scripted, although he did recommend an excellent beer I had never had before, kudos for that. Be sure to request the couch seating, wish I would've known before-hand because the basic two-tops are quite uncomfortable.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMIts not all Abbot Kinney in VeniceLovely spot, great food, Barnyard gets you off Abbott Kinney and close to the beach with an eclectic menu. While nothing is nothing too off the charts creative on the menu its all very fresh and very delicious and the place is comfortable eclectic and that perfect bohemian cool you want from a Venice restaurant.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely restaurant. PortionsLovely restaurant. Portions a tad too small. I don't like big plates at all but the entrees were lthe same size as the small plates.
Plus the old vintage use of plates didn't go with style of restaurant. I see those used in a
Bed and breakfast not a farm to table hip restaurant. They need to rethink
The plates they put the food on made presentation completely off.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMVenice adds a new Neighborhood GemThe space is small and the tables are close together, however Barnyard manages to make a small space feel intimate rather than crowded. I prefer the cushy booth seating to the metal chairs, that I think will war on you after too much time seating down. The lamb was cooked perfectly and the wine went down smooth, yet I was a little bothered by the taking of the a la carte menu to a new level, when a cheese plate is literally only cheese. If you want bread or crackers you must pay for them separately.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWill be back!Had dinner with a small group of co-workers last night, and Barnyard was perfect. Menu is small but everyone found multiple items to order. Mains were on the small side ... but not outragious for sharing. Wine recommendations were right on and service was friendly and helpful. Not a single complaint! Will be bringing folks back for more.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMBarnyardI almost expected to see chickens and pigs roaming around when I walked through the door of Barnyard for the first time, but instead was met by a hip but homey crowd, charming tables and serving ware, an attentive, engaging server and absolutely delicious, reasonably priced and unique menu offerings. The entire experience - from ambience to server and last but not least, food - is really a stand out compared to so many other restaurants in LA. And it's a bike ride away!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMRustic small plates at wonderfulRustic small plates at wonderful prices are exactly what this pocket of Venice needed!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of LA's best. There isOne of LA's best. There is another place in venice that is the upscale version with waits out the door for lesser food.
Barnyard is great and the online table reservation option is also great.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMuch needed addition to Venice/MariMuch needed addition to Venice/Marina dining. Menu is sophisticated and a contemporary update to some classic American dishes. Friendly staff.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMRibsvare amazing! GrilledRibsvare amazing! Grilled bread is a must to have to sop up all the delicious sauces.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMHipster SightingShe-she la-la small plates like so many gems popping up in Venice/Santa Monica, but works well for this couple! Keep 'em coming.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMVery positive evening. TheVery positive evening. The clams were a great hit, and we knew to order bread which, surprisingly, was not served with the terrine. Delicious bread...even without the terrine. Noise level was "energetic", but still allowed for easy conversation among our party of four. Friendly and attentive wait staff.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMOur server was very good. Our server was very good. She gave us a great suggestion for wine. Also she explaned all the dishes perfectly.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMMY PARTY OF 4 HAD A GREATMY PARTY OF 4 HAD A GREAT TIME. WE QUESTIONED WHETHER IT WAS NECESSARY TO MAKE SUCH COMPLICATED FOOD WITH ODD INGREDIENTS. WE WERE THERE AT 6:30 AND ALREADY THE RIBS WERE GONE. EVEN WITH THAT DISAPPOINTMENT WE WILL ABSOLUTELY COME BACK. ALL IN ALL WE ENJOYED IT. OUR WAITRESS WAS LOVELY.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMHappy little spotGot a bunch of little plates. Though the cheese was a small plate (just 2), and kinda basic, the warm olives and ribs made up for it. The two desserts were great and ended the night perfectly.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMBest venice restaurantWe had an amazing dinner. Enjoyed everything-cassoulet, baby octo, pork terrine and the cheese plate. Only disappointment was they are closed Sunday, and we couldn't go back again the next night.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food but small portionsThe food was tasty and the service was lovely. However, the portions are very small. My 5 yr old daughter had the cheese plate and the fish entree. I had to order another fish entree (she ate half) because she was still hungry. So it's a nice spot for those who eat very lightly. Also the cheese plate doesn't come with crackers or bread, which is an additional $3 charge. However, the bread pudding dessert was large but just a slab of sweetened brioche covered in caramel sauce. A little too rustic in comparison to the other dishes. Overall really nice food and service. You just need to order 3 courses to be full.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe tried lots and lots ofWe tried lots and lots of dishes. Each one was a gem. My only teensy criticism is that with only two desserts (which I think is fine), they are both custard based--bread pudding and panna cotta. I would offer one of those and one seasonal fruit dessert, like a warm crisp or whatever the chef likes to make.2/28/2013 12:00:00 AMBarnyard First TimerEnjoyed the tapas style dishes. We ordered four and I'd have to say the ribs were my favorite. The staff was very knowledgable and friendly. I have already recommended the restaurant to a couple of people that would enjoy the type of environment, food and wine selection. I definitely plan to return.2/27/2013 12:00:00 AMNice fresh farm to table approach.Nice fresh farm to table approach. Portions not large, even the main dishes. I enjoyed the inovative types of food they offered. We will go again. Great friendly service. Busy, neighborhood restaurant you can walk. Parking right behind restaurant which validates part of cost!2/23/2013 12:00:00 AM
