A couple of girlfriends and I went for lunch on a beautiful spring day and ate in the back garden. It was beautiful and peaceful. The food was excellent. All three of us ordered different items and we were all equally impressed with out meals. We've been here a few times since discovering it a few years ago and it is always a fantastic experience. We usually do the tasting menu with the wine pairing, and every time it is always some of the tastiest, most well prepared food we've had. The wine pairing is also one of the ways we've learned about some of our favorite wines, always spot on for the dishes!! The wait staff is extremely knowledgeable about everything on the menu and always has great details on what you're about to enjoy, so don't be afraid to ask questions. My halibut was one of the very best (if not the best) fish dishes I have eaten (including those at Morimotos, Charlie Trotters, Gary Danko, Cyrus, Acquerello, etc). Really unbelievable stuff. Ditto on the young chicken, lobster risotto and many other hits. They even accommodated our finicky 8-year old's palate. The chocolate dessert was awe-inspiring. So nice to have a great restaurant in Healdsburg to replace Cyrus. I would eat here every night if I lived here!
The wine list is a bit sparse when it comes to Old World selections. These people really seem to care both about the food and your dining experience. Our only minor quibbles were the less than stellar bread, and not being asked how we wanted our halibut cooked (it came out medium, while we would have preferred medium rare). We dined in their grape trellised outdoor dining area as it was a summery evening- we felt transported to Tuscany,Provence or the Spanish country side. With twinkling lights, the soothing wall fountain, the arched trellis of foliage, ..it was lovely. Our serving team was friendly, timely, and patient with wine comparisons and suggestions. The people there are very friendly and the service was perfect. If anything, they were TOO attentive! The food was spectacular - we sought out the chef to thank him when we left. My wife is vegetarian, and the waiter asked her what she liked and didn't like, and the chef made something special for her. Their specialty drinks were also very nice.
We sat out back on the patio, and although it was very nice and semi-private, it was quite chilly - they should have brought out some heaters. We had to finish our (amazing) dessert inside. It was a wonderful expereince, Out from Ohio for our 25th anniversary, we went there on a week night -Wed for dinner. It was not crowded and we had our choice of seats. We ate outside on the lovely patio. Gorgeous place to eat, trees with lights, a fountain and art.
The food was fabulous. I had halibut and it was the best piece I had ever had...crispy on the outside and very flavourful. My husband had a steak perfectly prepared. We were both so full from eating all day that we ordered two vegetarian appetizers and the vegetarian entree, and despite our not being super hungry we devoured everything. We ordered the "vegetarian" at the suggestion of our waiter, and we were so glad we did. It consists of the patron telling the waiter the types of vegetables they like, and the Chef puts together a creative and delicious assortment with a beautiful presentation. We planned a trip back to San Francisco and as soon as I had the airfare booked, I booked our dinner reservations (3+ months in advance).
