great mix of Korean influenced
cuisine that was terrifically spiced and absolutely delectable!"

I love the relaxed feel of this
place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The potato-leek soup was amazing and the Bibb lettuce salad was refreshing. The table was split on the monkfish – one person thought it was great, but another felt that the tastes didn't quite mesh. Everyone loved the flat iron steak. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable."

Barn joo is conveniently located
in the flatiron district. Easy for meeting friends, clients, etc. Great selection of cocktails. The $1 Oysters are from 4pm until close and the quality of Oyster is great!"
Dined on 7/9/2014
Went there during happy hours for
oysters. The lighting is dim enough to create a romantic environment. Had bibimbap (too many to finish), oysters (great!), Seoul yogurt (just Yakult) & fries (fabulous!)"
Dined on 6/27/2014
was a great find for some korean
fusion ... overall thought the the food preparation and what the variety of the menu was great. Thought that some dishes could have used some higher quality ingredients that would have made things perfect... for instance... the tortilla for the tacos (tasted like straight out of one of those packaged supermarket ones)"
Dined on 6/20/2014
So surprised to see a gluten free
menu in an Asian restaurant. It was heaven to see that over 10 dishes that can be made gluten free and soy free! Ingredients are fresh and all the dishes are tasty but not overpowering like traditional K food."
Dined on 6/19/2014
Been here two times, both in one
week - with small groups of people. You should make reservations around the evening - this place gets packed fast. Both times food was tremendous. Had the Beef Bibimbop, large portion and tasty. I went back specifically to get the Sea Urchin Bibimbop, AMAZING. But boy do they skimp on the urchin, the best part of the meal but only a spoonful. Must try the Lavender Cocktail OR Lavender Club Soda. It's extremely refreshing - my whole group ordered them and had refills (not free though). The first time I had it I suggested to the hostess to put a real lavender twig in there, and the second time they DID! So good."

Barn Joo is a great spot for both
business lunches and social dinners -- DELICIOUS food that has something for everyone whether you're craving a great burger or looking for something more adventurous. Their cocktails are really special and while pricey at normal hours, are reasonable during happy hour."
Dined on 6/11/2014
Very reasonably priced but
excellent Korean food in a lovely setting."
Dined on 6/6/2014
Pork tacos and chicken wings were
good. Everthing else was not and overpriced"

I've been Korean Restaurants in
NYC several times and so far Barn Joo is the best one I ever tried. Great Vibe, Friendly Service, Flavorful Food. Especially loved their Happy Hour Deals. Will definitely come back to try other dishes. "

With service this slow the quality
of the meal and space become irrelevant. Had been before and didn't have a problem but this time it took half an hour for our soup appetizer to arrive, though only after we asked where our food was, and despite that it still arrived lukewarm. Particularly impressive as the restaurant wasn't nearly full. Hint to management: maybe one server for the entire restaurant isn't enough."
Dined on 4/30/2014
Excellent food, floor manager
(Judy) absolutely wonderful. Waitstaff gets a little confused at time (we were delivered wrong items 2x) but overall wonderful."
Dined on 4/25/2014
I love the ambience here and they
have an amazing raw bar. Great for a friday night, I made reservations last minute on a friday night but they still had my reservation and they were kind about it."
Dined on 4/11/2014
If you make a reservation you get
to spin the wheel and try and win a free prize. We won sweet potato fries which were way better than any I've ever had. Also, you must get the chicken wings. Excellent! Really though, everything we ordered was great, kimchi fried rice, oysters, brussel sprouts, pork belly. And the service was impeccable. Super friendly staff. Overall, it was a great dining experience. Will definitely be back."
Dined on 4/5/2014
Chicken meatballs were great and
grilled pork was very tasty, but, given how pricey it ended up being, service was bad enough to prevent me to come back"
Dined on 3/28/2014
We were a party of 4 and all
enjoyed our food. It is not overpriced, friendly service and we would all come again. Nice ambiance and central location as you only walk a few steps from Union Square subway station. Try it..."

On my second visit I was happy
with the food and service as the first. Yummy food. Friendly efficient staff"
Dined on 3/9/2014
Food was delicious. Menu was
perfect. Tasty. Great ambiance."
Dined on 2/28/2014
Had dinner on the weekend and glad
I finally made it to the restaurant. When you walk in, they have you spin a wheel for a free prize (drinks, etc), there's a lively bar on one side and tables on another and an upstairs dining area. Food and drinks were amazing and the servers were nice. Even when they messed up our drinks and we didn't like one of them, the manager came by, comped our drinks and apologized for the inconvenience. Overall a great experience."
Dined on 2/22/2014
This was my first time going there
with my boyfriend. I was surprised that I've never seen it before in the Union Square area before! First of all, when you walk into this long hallway to the host, the first thing I noticed was the decor. I loved how they decorated the place. They had this spinning wheel game too but no one touched it that night. I was seated immediately at a cozy table with our names on a heart shaped card, in front of it was rose petals with 3 heart shaped chocolates. Waitress came to greet us & asked for our drinks. Later brought out edamame, we gave her our choice of appetizer & our food order. All the food was excellent & got us full. In honor of V-Day they gave us chocolate covered strawberries w/whipped cream."
Dined on 2/14/2014
This place really lives up to the
reviews. Everything we got, from the drinks to the main dishes was phenomenal. Kimchi pancakes were perfect and the Bibimbap was one of the best I've had."

Went for the first time on a
Friday night with my girlfriend and another couple. I'd walked by the restaurant many times and wanted to try it for a while. The menu looked great and seemed like it would would be a cool scene inside. The menu lived up to my expectations but the vibe not as much. It was a Friday night at 9pm and we sat upstairs and were one of two occupied tables upstairs. I was fine with that, but others looking for a lively atmosphere, maybe not so much. The downstairs, however, was full. I think Barn Joo would be a good place to go with a big group. I really liked the food and thought the menu was creative. Would go back again."
Dined on 2/7/2014
I can't believe I have not noticed
this place before. Barn Joo is amazing! This was my second time there and I had a blast. Happy hour is 7 days a week from 4-7pm and so much to choose from. My friends were wowed at how well the service was. Drinks are superb. The blue point oysters are so fresh and smooth. I will definitely be coming back again. Thank you!"

Reservation - easy reservation
online Seating - great accommodation by the wait staff and the hostess; very friendly also (I was waiting for the first hostess to seat us and the second hostess asked me if I needed anything to ensure that I was not being neglected; I asked for the main floor seating and the male hostess or manager sat us at the bar seating right below the speakers which was terrible but the server found us a new seat and I was very thankful.) Food - not the best; just a "OK" korean/japanese food (salmon roll tasted very fishy; spicy squid was not flavorful enough - just korean pepper paste; I had their wings and pork pot which were excellent so those I recommend) Drinks - Soju cocktail was excellent"

I was given the job of making a
reservation and it needed to be in the area of. Barn Joo sounded good and was in the right price range. I did not expect the great experience we had. For one the ambiance is great. It is modern, stylish, clean and hip but not overwhelming. They have their own signature drinks using traditional Korean spirits, Then the food started coming and it was a wonderful "nouveau" take on traditional Korean food. Even a Korean native who was with us enjoyed it thoroughly. Oh and don't forget to spin the wheel when you come in to see if you won something like a drink or a dessert! And the service was very attentive and quick. Barn Joo is now on my list and also to use as a recommendation for other people."

Been there several times. Love to
see how they've been improving food, drink n deco. Worth every single visit."
Dined on 1/10/2014
This was the second time I've
dined st Barn Hop. The large space is cool, but it seems to overshadow the food. The chicken wings and kimchi pancake were good, but I wasn't wowed by anything."
Dined on 1/4/2014
Food was delish!! So fun! Had a
blast with my group of friends!"
Dined on 1/4/2014
It was ok, but nothing special. I
can't really remember one dish that stood out. The sangria was great, but that's not what you come to a Korean gastropub for. I'll stick with the smoky K-town restaurants for the great vibe and authentic food!"
Dined on 1/3/2014
I was pleasantly surprised at how
good this restaurant is. Our server did an amazing job at steering us to order a variety of food that was the best I've has in a long time and certainly the best in Chelsea. I will be back!"
Dined on 12/28/2013
I never write reviews and am a
restaurant owner/chef myself. I had my X-mas Eve birthday celebration with 7 others at Barn Jo and they went above and beyond with everything. Feeling welcome, accommodating towards my 2 kids and baby who were with us and had many special touches that showed great service, hospitality and kindness. I would recommend to anyone and I had a great experience. Thanks to Ray and his staff that day. You made my often forgotten about birthday very special. Ted."
Dined on 12/24/2013
Food was great, but the service
was a little slow. Barn Joo was very quiet and great place to have an office lunch. We found it cold to sit near the front windows, so I would advise against sitting there, if you can help it, in the winter. Overall, great."
Dined on 12/18/2013
We went with Korean friends and we
all enjoyed the tapas-style take on Korean food, especially the wings. The servers were super friendly. We also enjoyed sampling many of the different cocktail flavors as they came in share-able carafes, which was nice. We also enjoyed spinning the Barn Joo wheel for a free drink. It sounded like they were having a private event in the hotel (the restaurant is located within) so that was a little strange for the ambience, but we had a nice time."
Dined on 12/14/2013
Food was fine... nothing
extraordinary, but fine. Wings did stand out... delicious!"
Dined on 12/12/2013
A nice surprise in the Flatiron
district with a large space nicely decorated with warm wood. Our server was congenial and food was quick to arrive after our order. We had the chicken meatballs and BBQ short ribs - both very good and big enough portions for two people to share easily. Same with the scallion pancakes. The roasted mushrooms with truffle were a perfect side dish. We'll be going back!"
Dined on 11/20/2013
This was a wonderful dining
experience. Loved the decor; very creative. The food was amazing. I will definitely be returning."
Dined on 11/10/2013
We were looking for a Korean
restaurant in the Flatiron neighborhood and stumbled upon Barn Joo. it's fairly new had some interesting fusion items on the menu. All n all a good meal!"
Dined on 11/10/2013
Fun place and very nice ambiance
for the area but service was lacking"
Dined on 11/9/2013
The decor is dark and moody -
which is a good thing. With a faux moon above and poetry lining the walls, it's a great spot for a date. Service was excellent, with a staff the clearly enjoys their work. Dishes are perfectly sized, and inexpensive enough to encourage a wide selection at dinner. With configurable tables, a great spot to meet friends, or for intimate and cozy dinner for two. Flavor combinations are outstanding, pairing Korean themes with an NYC palate."
