  • "Our first visit to Barley and Rye was to celebrate out wedding anniversary. Very nice waitress who was excellent at explaining various drinks & entrees. I ordered the scallops and while they were very tasty they were absolutely cold. The waitress did offer to take them back, but figured reheated scallops would probably end up tough. It did ruin a very good meal. The other comment I will make is that it was freezing cold in the restaurant (which may be part of the reason my entrée was cold). I had 3/4 sleeves and you could still feel the air conditioning blowing like crazy. Very uncomfortable. My husband had a pasta dish stuffed with lobster and it was excellent. Prices are a little high for 2 scallops."

  • "We arrived early for drinks at the bar. The bartender was friendly and well informed. She shared information on the restaurant and the drink selection. The excellent service continued with the wait staff. They were all friendly, professional and welcoming. Our waitress knew the menu well and could answer our questions. The food arrived timely and was absolutely wonderfu. Great flavor and nice size portions. I would definately recommend this restaurant. We will be back."

  • "We love large cities and large city restaurant finds. We found out about this restaurant thru family members. They had experienced a great meal using all local products so we thought we'd give it a try. It was wonderful! The food was great and the service was absolutely above and beyond. We tried a variety of items and shared them. A couple of the servings were a bit large, but all in all the servings were a good size and not overwhelming. Our fish was tender, moist and extremely flavorful. We will definitely return."

  • "After getting to know the owner Jared, we began discussing various dishes. He offered to bring in fresh Fois Gras with a weeks notice as a special. I had it this past Friday & it was delicious. Grade A quality & nicely prepared. My wife & I enjoy eating outside, we find the interior a bit crowded & uncomfortable wood slatted seats. Wine selection is nice & we haven't had anything yet from the menu that we didn't enjoy. I'm glad to see Bass Street Chop House get some competition in downtown Moline. They were getting a bit cocky before Jared arrived."

  • "Hands down, the most well-prepared and highest quality food in the Quad-Cities. No matter what you get off of the ever-changing menu, you will not be disappointed. One of the few restaurants in town that serves grass-fed bison, and it's delicious. I've been to Barley & Rye a dozen times for lunch and a couple times for dinner; have yet to meet a meal there that wasn't just absolutely delicious. Prices are higher than what you'll pay at most lunch/dinner joints, but you get what you pay for. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. Oh, and if you are a whiskey/scotch/bourbon fan, you'll want to bring a DD...they're lineup is impressive."

  • "Invited another couple to join my husband and me for a birthday dinner! 1 had rabbit which he had never had before. Not filling enough but he enjoyed it. 1 had duck which she had not had in years. She sent it back to have center cooked a bit more. Very happy in the end. No one had left overs! We spent 2 1/2 hours enjoying dinner! Love the local farm to table concept. $$$"

  • "We enjoyed our visit to Barley and Rye. Their excellent selection of bourbon was what brought us to their restaurant. It was fun to try their twist on the side choices. We enjoyed both the barley and the jalapeno mac n cheese - they were delicious. The scallops were prepared very well and the bison burger was also great. They had a great selection of homemade breads - the raisin bourbon bread was excellent. Prices were what you would expect for upscale dining and many of their food/ingredients are locally sourced - we appreciate that fact and know that can add to the price. The wait staff was great and we will definitely go back."

  • "Barley and Rye was very good, bacon wrapped dates were yummy and so was the salad I had. I got the filet with lobster on top which was very good except a bit of my steak was charred just a little more than I would have liked. Would definitely go back again. The only other thing I didn't like was how close some of the tables were, but there's not much you can do about that!"

  • "This meal was the best meal I've had in the QCA ever. It was about $50 a plate but we both ordered drinks. The whiskey menu is above and beyond anything you can find in the QCA. I ordered from the beer menu and was able to find at least two beers that I've never had before. The service was awesome and the owner/chef will walk around the dining room and ask how everything is."

  • "For $30 I got 3 scallops.... they were good but not fantastic. Server was excellent at suggesting a good wine. My friend had marlin which she said was good, but she also felt the price was a little high. I will say that this was my second time there... first time was excellent... this time disappointing."

  • "Distinctive menu including the salads. Plenty of hard liquor options. Wine is excellent, but pricey. OI would rate the price a little higher then rated by open table. Portion size were reasonable with maintaining good health. Cup cakes were quite varied but not outstanding. Had a fried cheesecake which simply was too rich for me. Waitress was fantastic. Listened well and commented easily making it easy to chose the menu option for the evening. Coffee hit the spot at the end. WE will come back."

  • "Our meals were delicious. The dishes were prepared very well and delightfully presented. Service is not commensurate with menu pricing (expensive). Our waiter was good in the beginning of our meal, but we waited 15 minutes for him to return to our table at the end of the meal, while we were clearly finished with our food and waiting. He didn't offer coffee or after dinner drinks, & only a couple of the night's desserts. The other service complaint we have is that we were asked each time food was brought to the table who had ordered which food item. The wait staff should already know who ordered what and place the food accordingly each time at the table. We will return for a future visit because the food was absolutely delicious!"

  • "I've eaten at Barley & Rye twice (once for dinner and once for lunch) and have had great experiences both times. The food is excellent and prepared fresh, which does take a little more time. Call ahead to speed up your lunch if you are limited on time. Lunch prices were between $10-$15 and the proportions were perfect. I have celiac disease and love that I can order almost anything on the menu and the chef will prepare it gluten free for me. They have gluten free bread as well!"

  • "We were in Iowa visiting our 91+ year old father and his wife. In Iowa you are 10 minutes from everywhere. We came across a real gem in Barley & Rye. The menu is extensive and well rounded. I had the Ribeye that was done just right. My wife had the Gnoccki that was outstanding. Her parents had the Gettuccine. It was enough to feed them for the next several days. We are looking over the wine list and the waiter Ashley recommended Belle Glos Pino. Wow! She was right on. What makes this place different is all the products (except the chicken) is local. Not only are they local but Ashley could tell us what farm they came from. To top off our experience the Owner/Chef came over and made you feel like you were family. We will be back."

  • "On my first visit to the restaurant I ordered lamb gnocchi and would have given the dish 4-5 *. Unfortunately, on my recent visit I ordered the same and was disappointed. The texture of the lamb was stringy/stewed, the sauce was not light but heavy on tomato and too sweet. I do love the restaurant! I will most certainly return and try again. "

  • "We went to Barley & Rye for our 15 year anniversary on the recommendation of a friend. The service was wonderful. The food was amazing - perfect portion and every bite was more delectable than the one before! They have a huge wine, beer, and cocktail list. Excellent place to dine. I don't think I would want to bring my kids here, though. Definitely a place to enjoy with friends or that special someone. Loved it and will be back!!!"

  • "The service was superb as was our meal. Staff truly appreciate what this unique restaurant offers, which is really excellent, mostly local offerings. We had made a reservation that needed to be changed and were accommodated easily. Everyone ordered different entrees, all were beautifully plated and lived up to the visual expectation. The menu has some unique starters and an extensive drink and wine list. Decor was "upscale diner", with a charming mural painted by a local artist featuring the Chef's family and hometown. Great place to grab a late evening cocktail, too. Perfect place to treat a friend to dinner."

  • "Food was very good. I selected this restaurant for the farm to table environment which sure pleased a couple of our group!! One of our party was vegetarian & attempting to change food habits. The chef did a great job of providing good vegetarian choices but we were surprised there were not such standard choices on the menu. One of our party's steak special noted a lot of fat but the chef brought another one which was better. The starters were fun & excellent. Maybe watch the pepper amounts used - that was only other comment I heard? Our waiter was very nice & did a great job of caring for us!! Was rather interesting to watch cars being towed - not fault of yours. Thanks"

  • "Everything is freshly made and from farm to table. I had read a number of reviews and some were critical, but we didn't find this the case. The Barley side dish was excellent and a real surprise. The Strip Steak was grass fed beef and very tender and cooked perfectly. We also had salmon and we've eaten many dishes of salmon but this was in the top two or three we've ever had in any restaurant. The Salmon dish had brussel spout leaves were crisp and not bitter. The waitress was very friendly but didn't know too much about the dishes except saying that's my favorite etc. etc. The Chef came by several times and filled us in on the menu and how it was made which was a very nice touch."

  • "We reserved a table for 4 on a Saturday night. The restaurant was crowded, and now I know why. The food is absolutely wonderful. Everything is fresh, procured from local farms and prepared by the Chef. He makes his own sausage, prosciutto, etc. My wife had the Filet, and I had the bone-in Pork Chop, which was about 2-inches thick and absolutely mouth-watering. The wait staff and bartender were terrific! The Bourbon, Scotch and beer selection are top-shelf. What a magnificent restaurant... Barley & Rye is in our Top 5 "Go To" restaurants in the QC. Outstanding!"
