Diner Reviews
  • "I heard so much about the Barking Frog and took this chance to check it out with a friend. Open area with reception, small bar open to tables and small 70 limit with very high ceiling which made it very noisy and hard to have a conversation. Menu item Yellow Snapper as OPEN TABLE noted was NOT on the menu and waiter said never had been. I can say the Carrot Ginger Soup, Duck confit Tacos and sorbet with fruit was excellent. Didn't get our iced tea requested until a sup/manager came with the soup and we advised him. I don't consider it the upscale, cozy restaurant for romance dining or family/friends catch up. "

  • "Food was fabulous but slow to come out from the kitchen. Buser missed little things like bread at the start (had to ask), neighboring table had to wait for dessert forks then asked, we had to ask for a second cup of coffee.... But overall everyone was very friendly and we plan to go back. "

  • "I love coming to the Barking Frog because it is always an experience. The food is interesting as they apply their extensive culinary nuance to every dish. "

  • "Was my 2nd time there, and the experience was the same - loved the ambiance and the wine selection, service was professional and cordial. Food was good but not great for what you'd expect from its name and price - the halibut I had could have being more tender and more flavorful. I probably won't go there again, if I want great seafood, I go to Flying Fish in Seattle."

  • "The Barking Frog is one my favorite places to dine. The ambiance is warm and very classy. The food is one of the finest dishes in Western WA. I had the Grand Marnier Prawns for an appetizer. Albacore with sushi-syle rice for the entree. Finally, the walnut bread pudding which was more like a walnut bread than pudding for dessert. It's a bit pricey but, not as much as you would pay for a typical dinner in downtown Seattle. The Barking Frog is located in Woodinville --- the land of wine tasting. So, go for a nice drive (20 mins. from Seattle) and enjoy this exquisite dining experience."

  • "My biggest complaint is that the food varied from great to disappointing. For appetizers, my date had shrimp and spinach while I had an asparagus salad with a poached egg. The shrimp was fantastic (I wish there were more than two), but my salad was underwhelming. For entrees, she had snapper on curried rice and I had a steak on roasted vegetables. Both were excellent, but her snapper was probably the meal's highlight. We were very disappointed with the rest of her entree though; the sauce-soaked rice was overcooked. For dessert she had goat cheesecake (was great), and I had a beet chocolate cake. I didn't taste any beet in the cake, but I'm not sure I was supposed to. That said, it was a bit on the dry side. Service was great, given SRW."

  • "My friend had not dined there before & she just loved it. I am a vegetarian & they do not cater but are very accommodating."

  • "My boyfriend took me to Barking Frog on Saturday night for my birthday dinner and everything was absolutely perfect. Our server was attentive, friendly, and very knowledgable- I wish I could remember her name to give her credit for an excellent experience (she was young and had long red hair). We started with lobster beignets (yum!) and cava, then I had the salmon and my boyfriend had the duck. Both were amazing and the creme brûlée du jour was made with Gran Marnier and orange zest- what a treat! The ambiance was wonderful, very relaxed and the fire pit was such a cool feature! We will definitely be going back and I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Two of us had dinner and wine for restaurant week. We eat here every so often and enjoy it, the value at $28 fixed priced made it irrisistable. But the steak dish, really!? Nouvelle cuisine? A portion that is 2 inches x 2 inches. A strange choice in otherwise excellent service, environment experience."

  • "I have never been disappointed by the chefs at Barking Frog. I can count on finding something seasonal and interesting on the menu. The wine pairings are well chosen and quite enjoyable."

  • "Very skilled kitchen here! The grilled asparagus salad with one perfectly poached egg was sheer joy. A beautifully-done steak cut like butter, and was set on a platform of gratineed potatoes -- again, perfection embodied. The only off note, and some might not consider this off, was a proportionately large chevre cheesecake dessert -- which was airy and lovely, but just a bit big after the wonderfully scaled previous courses. Wonderful place. Delicious, skillfully prepared food. Steady, informed, but unobtrusive service...I will definitely be back!"

  • "I would recommend this restaurant, but not during restaurant week. I understand restaurant week is a fixed cost, but the portions here were extremely small. We stopped and got burgers on the way home because the food wasn't enough to fill us up. Would go back during the normal menu, but would not recommend this during restaurant week. Disappointed."

  • "Had the occasion to be in Seattle and catch up for lost time when I couldn't make my nephews wedding last year at the Willows. so this year I took the party back to the Barking Frog and wasn't disappointed. Gena the waitress was laid back and powerful at the same time. she knew the food because I had already researched the extensive wine list and chose the D2 blend. Twice in fact. The appetizers of mussels and oysters went well with the shrimp. The entrees of steak to scallops were divine. All in all I would give this restaurant a rave of over 9+. Why not 10? Not much in the view category. I spent over $800.00 and at the end of the night I would have done it all over AGAIN and AGAIN. Whoah!!!!!"

  • "Awesome, went for restaurant week. The best meal in Seattle this week for sure. Yellow tail snapper entree was incredible, and plan to try several of the deserts!"

  • "Overall I love Barking Frog. The food is always amazing and the atmosphere is quaint & comfy. People that work there are always professional and nice. My only complaint was that it took a little over 2 hours. Which I know it isn't fast food, but our wait times were bad considering it was a (slow) Monday & they were fully staffed. It took 10 mins to be greeted by the hostess (there were 2 of them). Then 20 mins before being seated (30mins after the reservation). Then another 10 minutes before our server showed up. It was restaurant week (set menu) so in my mind the food shouldn't take too long- it was about a 20 minute wait between courses. Then 30 mins to close out our checks. Food is great, but just know it's a leisurely experience!"

  • "We greatly enjoyed our Restaurant Week dinner at Barking Frog. Asparagus salad included an egg done like I've never seen it before - cooked through but with a velvety soft texture. Carrot soup was a perfect blend of flavors. Entrees - yellow tail snapper and steak were both delicious and well-presented. Dessert was beet chocolate cake, which was light and deeply chocolate, while I was unable to limit myself to "just a bite" of the goat cheese cake, and gobbled the whole thing. The two-top tables are very close together, so depending on whether or not you like chatting with your neighbors, you will find that fun or intrusive. Dining out on the patio in the summer is also a fun experience."

  • "Went during Seattle restaurant week for the second year in a row. We liked the food, although I was still hungry when we left."

  • "The Barking Frog was absolutely AMAZING! We went for Seattle Restaurant week and everything was delicious. Wine selection is expansive and I didn't see anything on the menu that didn't look incredible. We had kobe shoulder steak on a potato gratin that was to die for! Also, couldn't help but order something extra and had the elk tartare... OMG fantastic! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who truly appreciates delicious food. I also know that they locally source almost all ingredients which is wonderful. We will definitely be going back soon!"

  • "With outdoor seating, an inviting fire pit, and a creative kitchen, you don't get much better. This was a brunch - you usually don't need a reservation but always a good idea here for brunch. One of the best eggs and hash in Seattle. A nice selection of non-egg dishes too."

  • "I recently tried the special Seattle restaurant week menu and had a great experience. The service staff was excellent and very attentive. It's worth noting that the portions are on the smaller side, but still adequately filling once you have dessert. However, while the portions were small, the taste of the dishes was outstanding and well put together. I recommend the Snapper to anyone sampling this special menu. I will definitely be returning, as the regular menu looked very delicious and offers a break from some of the usual "safe" choices that many restaurants offer to appease the masses."

  • "We had dinner here for the first time while staying At Willows Lodge. Enjoyed beef tenderloin and wild caught Halibut. The coconut sorbet was wonderful. Tasted like ice Cream. We have food allergies and they did an excellent job in meeting our needs. They exceeded our expectations! Would definitely come back for for dinner."

  • "We celebrated my wife's birthday at Barking Frog. Everything from the wait staff to the food was first class!"

  • "This is a lovely spot and the fireside table is awesome. The food, however, was unremarkable (we had brunch). Our crab cakes Benedict were really not that good. Our server was definitely sub-par. He kept spilling food (including on us), and would leave the ends of bottle dripping as he poured."

  • "My wife and I recently dined here on our wedding night. The restaurant was nice and the service was good, but the food did not quite meet our expectations; especially for the price. I ordered the salmon and gnocchi dish and she ordered scallops. The salmon was disappointing and bland and the 4 small pieces of gnocchi tasted like a leftover superpretzel that was zapped in the microwave and chopped to bits. The scallop dish was decent, but was not easy to stomach as the main course. It would have been better suited as a side to complement something else. The plating was nicely done, but the taste was not impressive nor was there much food on the plate. The Snickerdoodle creme brulee was amazing though! Next time we will order the steak."

  • "Great place to enjoy dinner after a day of tastings at the nearby wineries. Pro Tip: Get early dinner reservations (5-6pm) for less noise and a more romantic atmosphere."

  • "The food and wine were wonderful. The flavor and presentation could not be any better. However, Be prepared , this dinning experience and great wine list will be very expensive. the restaurant has good service but does not have a private or fancy table in the house. We enjoyed the evening, but we will have to save up for a while before returning."

  • "I expected the food to be good but I didn’t expect the prices to be so reasonable. We went for brunch and the food, service and atmosphere were just brilliant. My only complaint would be it was a little noisy but I could still have a conversation with my companions. The other surprise is it wasn’t pretentious. It was very relaxed and comfortable. I will definitely return for breakfast, brunch or lunch. For me the dinner menu is a little too out there. Our waiter was wonderful and he was very knowledgeable and patient. I will definitely be recommending The Barking Frog to others."

  • "My husband and I went here for a much needed date night. The restaurant is small and pretty quiet. The wine list and menu selection has so,etching for everyone. The food was amazing. We tried a lot of different things- borsch soup, oysters on the half shell, pate platter, beet salad, brussel sprouts, asparagus, rack of lamb, and the duck. We weren't starving, but when going somewhere like this we like to sample a lot of plates and share everything. The only thing that was truly disappointing was the asparagus and borsch soup. The rest was really good. It is a must try if you haven't been there. Afterwards you can go to the fireside where they have live music, more food and drinks."

  • "We had brunch here while visiting Seattle for a few days. The drive out from the city (on a nice day) is worth it. Parking was easy. The ambiance both inside and out complements the natural surroundings. I enjoyed a Puget Sound Mary and Croque-Madame. The service was friendly, quick and professional. The two of us were seated at a four-top, as some other diners have mentioned in their reviews, but personally I prefer that (I like to have room)."

  • "My sister and I had lunch and enjoyed it (again) thoroughly. The wait staff was unbelieveably responsive. We wanted to share two menu items and they divided and served them separately .... wonderful touch."

  • "I visited Barking Frog for the first time on a Seattle Dine Around night and very much enjoyed the location, environment and food. I was very disappointed this time. The food was cold and not flavorful. I had the first that I was told was very similar to Ahi tuna. I love Ahi tuna and was very let down with the fish I was served. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy my meal."

  • "Our group (4) enjoyed a terrific lunch for $15 each. Service was as expected at this well rated property. No rush, prompt refilling of water and attention to our needs. Well spent 1 1/2 hours in a popular area of the Metro."
    Dined on 3/26/2014
  • "All things about the evening were great except the food was way over salted. This happened the last time I dined there a few years ago and thought I'd give it another try. It was better this time, I didn't send my food back, but too salty. I don't have a desire to return."
    Dined on 3/25/2014
  • "This is our third time at Barking Frog and the restaurant did not disappoint. We ordered similar dishes and new ones each time to try. The same dishes gave us the consistency we look for and the new ones pleasantly surprise us with new ingredients. We would definite recommend to others."
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "Finally decided to try Barking Frog during Dine Around and was thoroughly impressed. Ambience lacks a bit - one large room, no privacy, not especially comfortable at all. HOWEVER, the food and wine, and in our case, service, more than made up for it. Great for a date night for sure."
