A word from Bari
Bari Ristorante Enoteca is the city's only Southeastern Italian restaurant and wine bar. Creating the regional cuisine of his family, Chef Jason Severs' renditions of antipasto, salads, meats and seafood, over 20 Italian cheeses, plus homemade pasta, bread, and desserts, give diners a true taste of this Italian Region. Whether you order a multi-course meal like they do in Italy, or only one or two dishes, you will love the simplicity and freshness of Bari's food and excellent Italian wines. The Enoteca is open an hour before and after the dining room, offering and extensive all-Italian wine list.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "A wonderful dining experience with gourmet southern Italian foods prepared to perfection!! This is not your typical meat and potatoes, huge portion kind of bistro. One dines here for quality, not quantity!! There is a small but exquisite variety on the menu which should more than satisfy just abou any palate. Everything my date and I ate was expertly prepared and full of rich flavor. Not being all too familiar with Italian wines (as I typically prefer California reds) I was able to find one that was superb and paired perfectly with our menu choices. The staff is very friendly, very knowledgeable about the menu and very willing to accommodate a diner's request. We WILL be regulars here now. Well done Bari, well done indeed!!"

  • "Hunter waited on us for my husband's birthday. He previously worked in the kitchen but now has moved to the front of the house. He is extremely knowledgeable and attentive. He had excellent meat, cheese and wine recommendations. We will ask to sit in his section every time we go. An amazing experience!!"

  • "We enjoyed a wonderful dining experience at Bari. We had reservations and were promptly seated upon arrival. Hunter, our server, was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. The selection of food and wine brought back pleasant memories of our trip to Italy. We chose a selection of meats, cheeses, and grilled as our appetizer. It was beautifully presented and delicious. The pasta carbonara was the best we have had anywhere. Food, service, and atmosphere were all first rate."

  • "Bari is one of Memphis' best restaurants! The staff are always so nice and do a fine job. The food is always appealing and don't even think about skipping the orzo con granchio!"

  • "We have enjoyed several meals at Bari since they opened and as usual no disappointments on our most recent visit. Each course was well made and delicious."

  • "Service was poor, food was ok at best. Expensive and not worth having to beg for attention. Other restaurants in the area that are far better."

  • "I recently went to Bari for a birthday dinner date, and it did not disappoint. The waiter made excellent wine suggestions, the cheese list was extensive and divine, and every course was absolutely delicious. The best part was that Bari's prices were a bit more reasonable than many of the other special occasion restaurants in Memphis, and on top of that, their portions were larger. The only negative was that the dining area is small and not as quaint and pristine in its decor as some of its neighbors. However, the food was great. Highly recommend."

  • "We we dining with 2 other couples, 1 of which was much our senior and has lived in Memphis far longer. I was a little nervous when they said they had never been to Bari as it was my choice to go there, but we had been there and enjoyed it. They loved it and so did the rest of us. Our server made great recommendations for wine and chose our cheeses which were wonderful. My crab orzo was great and I heard raves about the steak. We had a great time and I think out guests will be back now too."

  • "Food and Service are always top notch at Bari. Cheeses, meats, pastas and wine are uniquely Italian."

  • "seemed smaller and less intimate than I had expected."

  • "Our starter arrived about 5min after ordering. I ordered fried calamari, smelt,&sardines. It was cold and limp certainly didn't just come out of fryer my husband ordered mussels which were ok but tiny. Our entrees arrived before apps were finished and placed on table next to us and covered with a plate. Needless to say they ended up cold and steamed. This is one of the most disappointing meals we have had since moving to Memphis. Thankfully there are many excellent places to eat as we will not return to Bari. My question still stands was chef in kitchen if so shame on you. There were only 3 tables occupied so they were far from slammed."

  • "May have just been a one off experience but when you're shelling this kind of money You'd expect the waitress to put in your entire food order without attitude. Also, we were a served a bad bottle of wine."

  • "Excellent restaurant. Food is thoughtfully prepared and always a treat. The service is unhurried and smooth. One of our favorite places for special occasions."

  • "I took my wife for our 4th anniversary. We did not know what to expect going in. We are use to going to kid friendly places. So this was a a little outside the box for us. We had reservation and was seated as soon as we got there. The flowers I had ordered were waiting on the table. The waitress was awesome I wish I could remember her name. She walked us through every step of the process from the cheese and salami to the wine that went best with our meal. We were blown away with everything it was awesome. We will be back. Thanks Bari"

  • "Very let down and I would not choose this as a romantic restaurant. the food was very average and the small plates to get you to order more kind of feels like a rip off. Will not dine there again and would not recommend it."

  • "|As always the food was of very high quality and very delicious also! |The service was good , a little more polish wouldn't hurt but the server was friendly and attentive. The ambience is pleasant but nothing more than that. |Sitting at the bar having a small plate or two is always a great experience."

  • "Monday nights are usually very slow for restaurants, and we expected the same this past Monday night at Bari. However, cabin fever seemed to strike hard that night as Bari was very crowded. And only one waitress, who graciously informed us before we ordered that she would try her best to provide great service despite being a "one woman band" on the floor. Luckily, one of the cooks and the hostess pitched in and we never missed a beat on service. Bari is our favorite Italian restaurant in Memphis for its care in prep, taste and presentation and, more importantly, its consistency. The wine list is good, too. And Monday night's meal did not disappoint by any criteria. We always enjoy our meals there and always recommend Bari to friends."

  • "I've been going to Bari for 10 years, because the kitchen is super competent and consistent. I have to make myself stray from my favorite menu items -- grilled radicchio, eggplant fritters, carbonara -- even though I've never been disappointed when I do. I was surprised Friday at how satisfying a plate of sardines could be. We also had an excellent steak. Fritters, though, were soggy inside -- first time I've had that disappointment. I guess life will go on."

  • "We really enjoyed our time at Bari. They were very accommodating of multiple changes I had to make to our reservation. We had guests from out of town who were pleased with the selection. The waiter did a wonderful job of allowing us to visit and not interrupting or rushing us to place our order. Perfect portions for our group of 5, as we enjoyed passing dishes."

  • "We dined at Bari for the extensive menu for fish offerings. However, we smelled it before we ordered it. The table behind us had ordered the Grilled Sardines and Whole Branzino, which was slightly offensive. I could aslo recommend bettter lighting in order to read the menu. The sides and desserts were exceptional, as well as the wine!"

  • "I had Halibut which was cooked to perfection, my friends had scallops which were also wonderful, and the other friend had the Sardines.... which she said she would not order again. The cheese was awesome, nice wine list.... the desserts were a disappointment. Other than that, it was a great experience..."

  • "This place was very good. It is small so make sure that you have a reservation. My whole fish was excellent an my companion loved her fish. Wine list very good. Appetizer was disappointing (slightly fried calamari, smelts and sardines), but everything else was outstanding."

  • "Used Open Table to set reservations for an engagement dinner. There was no wait, the service was above excellent, and the food was just as wonderful. While the bar area was pretty energetic and vibrant, the restaurant area was very quiet and romantic. We will definitely return."

  • "Bari isn't your typical Italian restaurant. It doesn't have big bowls of pasta or big pieces of lasagna. It prides itself on being authentic northern Italian cuisine. Lots of cheese and meats, so know your fancy terms. Also the plates are a la cart which means no sides. And they want you to order everything together, which actually makes the speed with which you can dine much faster. The food is delicioius, and the portions are perfect actually. There is no feeling of being stuffed after you're done eating. Light and refreshing. The ambiance is nice and the bar out front is noisy but it is totally separated from the dining room so the dining experience is quite intimate and quiet. Overall very very good place."

  • "Bari is as close to Milano as you can get without crawling on a plane and hoping for the best. We have eaten there several times and keep forgetting what a gem Bari is. The menu, atmosphere, and service is excellent and our biggest fear that with the redevelopment and rediscovery of Overton Square the place we think of as Memphis's only true Italian will become overrun with non-midtowners. Forget the Red-sauce, fried cheese, and bad wine and say hello to the best Italian this side of the Mason Dixon."

  • "Have been here several times, usually order from bar. Sat in dining room for hosting guest in town. Most of us ordered the special of the day fish or the halibut. Some of us received very small portions, especially the halibut, which had almost nothing else on the plate other than a piece of piece of fish smaller than a a deck of cards with a drop of a side dish. Appetizers and primi pasta dishes and cheese plate were excellent, as usual. But, this time I was sort of disappointed in the amount of food served for the fish entrees. Have never had this issue with the beef or pork specials. Waiter rushed our table a bit to order, even though we arrived on time for the reservation and restaurant not packed."

  • "This remains by far my favorite Italian restaurant in town, with a great (and rare) emphasis on fish, prepared always in an elegant yet genuine, delightfully light and fresh way as nowhere else... Always highly recommended!! Terrific job as always, guys!"

  • "We were disappointed they were out of Bronzino and rappini right away. We ordered the special brussel sprouts, but then the waitress came back and said they were out of that too - at 7:00 p.m on Friday night. We also heard the waitress tell the table next to us that they were out of desserts because the oven was broken. The cheese and salami were very good as was the warm raddichio salad I had and the carbonara. The sword fish special was not that special however. We were seated at a very small table very close to another couple even though the restaurant was not that crowded. We felt like we were forced to listen to other tables' conversations."

  • "Pre Fixe menu was good. Fish choices were excellent. Pork choice was good but wait staff need to point out how the chef prepares this grilled item ( medium rare ). Needs more chardonnay choices by the glass. Good wine choices generally that you may not find at other restaurants."

  • "We ate @ Bari over the holidays with a group of beloved friends. Four of our friends had never eaten @ Bari. They all loved it just as much as we do - as I knew they would. I had the special ribeye and fresh kale. Everything - perfectly prepared. Ask if they have the "drowned egg soup" if you go there. It is incredible!!!!!"

  • "Good as I remembered it. Food was very well presented and service was attentive. But when the restaurant was still mostly empty earlier in the evening, why were we put(2 table top) into tight corner right next to another couple when the rest of the restaurant was almost completely empty? It was kind of weird. I don't get it."

  • "It is hard to go wrong with Bari -- we go a couple times each year. The food is very good. The service is always excellent -- very helpful servers -- even with wine choices. The menu is a bit of challenge. Everything is separate -- including vegetables with the meal. This restaurant would benefit from a pris fixe option for those just can't cope with all the alternatives."
