Diner Reviews
  • "Nice hotel location. We had a reservation for 6 but when we showed up they were not ready for us, even though the whole place was pretty much empty. Never really felt like they wanted to wait on us. "

  • "Had a very enjoyable meal there. The price was right considering it was New York. More reasonable than most spots of the same quality. The food was good the selection could be more extensiave. The desert was great"

  • "Had a voucher for dinner for four, so we had a prix-fixe menu. Decent if not overwhelming choices. Service was just fine, food was good. Regular menu is a bit pricey for my tastes so I can't say for sure that I would have picked this place on my own, but it was a pleasant meal at an fancy historic NYC hotel and made for a nice night out. Only drawback was that it seemed as though we were expected to order more food / drinks than what came with the voucher (which included 3 courses and a bottle of wine, which was plenty, and also included tax and gratuity)."

  • "The Barclay's central location, professional service, comfortable lobby and restaurant make it an ideal location for a business conversation. Impressed again."

  • "Had I realized that it was in a hotel, I might have chosen a different restaurant. It was close to the office of the person I was meeting so it was convenient. Otherwise, it was ordinary. No complaints, however."

  • "One of the few restaurants we could find in Manhattan which offered a XMAS lunch. The food was excellent, especially the seafood and the carving station. The service was good, certainlly better than expected, having read some very negative comments on the buffet the year before. Only negative point: the buffet outlay was very limited in space. Can only recommend this special event brunch/lunch buffet if you are looking for ambience in an old style yet very elegant hotel."

  • "Terrible food. Really a shame as the waiters are very nice and it is a great space if you want a quiet lunch."

  • "Overall the experience was disappointing. The service was very poor as the waitstaff rarely tended to my table. They did tend to several other tables near me. What made it so disappointing was we ordered over $100.00 in food and beverages, while others only had appetizers or salads. I was never offered a refill on my drink. We did not receive napkins during our meal. On the plus side the food was very good."

  • "Our first time eating there. It is located in the Intercontinental Hotel. We enjoyed our meal with a lovely bottle of wine."

  • "Christmas day brunch was nice, but some wines and spirits were out of stock and recommendations for replacements were very unprofessionals."
    Dined on 12/25/2012
  • "Very nice staff as one would expect. Quality of the food was good, but on a Christmas Day brunch you cannot...repeat cannot run out of something (in this case, all the vegetables) and leave diners waiting more than 20 minutes for the next fresh batch. On balance, would go back if I was sure things like this had been resolved."

  • "Old school hotel fare. Pretends to be French-influenced. Ha. Service was poor to benign and the room was not crowded."
    Dined on 10/12/2012
  • "Breakfast buffet at $33 per is a little steep. Food is fine, but service was inattentive. Had to ask waiter for more coffee and never got the water I requested. At these prices, I expect the waiters (there were tons running around) to provide good service."

  • "Food was good, but not special. Service was rushed...we were told our next course was ready before we were finished with our appitizers etc....dessert came and was consumed before they poured the coffee...so their timing needs work."

  • "Our server Orlando was very attentive. He made sure that our meal was just as we might wish."

  • "Variety of items on menu and wine list makes this a must for those seeking an elegant dining experience in mid-town. Due to it's close proximity to Rockerfeller Center along with New York's Theatre District this is an excellent alternative to the offerings of "Restaurant Row"."

  • "The egg white fritata with smoked salmon sounded good; however, it arrived looking more like a stack of hashbrowns pasted together than a fluffy fritata. My husband's "Big Apple" pancakes were more like "silver dollar" pancakes, which was less than satisfying. No attempt was made to garnish the plates. We should have taken a clue from the majority of others who opted for the breakfast buffet, offering lots of fresh fruit, and, what appeared to be made-to-order omelettes. Live and learn. The ambience was wonderful, but our food choices very disappointing. Those ordering from the buffet seemed to get more attentive service from the wait staff."

  • "Food cold, bland, flavourless - uninterested staff! A great dissapointment!"

  • "The foie gras was to die for! The sliders were also tasty. I thought the travelzoo voucher would not be enough for 2 but we couldn't finish them."

  • "The quality and the variety of the food was outstanding. We really enjoyed the Thanksgiving Buffet. We will do this again next year."

  • "Buffet good for 'foodies' - limited selection, although good quality"

  • "We were there at a strange hour (4:30pm) on a Sunday so I can't comment on the Bar scene, lunch or dinner menu or the normal noise level BUT I would certainly recommend the Happy Hour Special. The prices were very reasonable, the cocktails were lovely and the sliders (a flight of 3) were terrific. Try the scallop sliders! The setting is lovely too. To call this space a Bar and Grill is misleading. It shares the elegance of it's space with the lobby of the Park Avenue Intercontinental Hotel. Very nice. Very New York."

  • "The service was incredibly slow. We never had our water glasses refilled. What should have been an hour long lunch took nearly twice that. The food was excellent, but only go if you have plenty of time to spare and don't mind a leisurely dining experience."
    Dined on 11/18/2011
  • "Waiters were supremely rude, it takes serious nerve to behave that way. The restaurant wasn't even busy yet, the wait staff was horrendous. Sorry even in NY the old school, snooty behavior isn't acceptable."
    Dined on 11/12/2011
  • "My colleague and I went for lunch during Restaurant Week. It was not busy, yet the service was slow. In addition, we thought our meals were mediocre. I would not go back, especially at their regular prices."
    Dined on 7/13/2011
  • "What a terrible place. The service is atrocious. Don't go unless it is the last breakfast place on earth."
    Dined on 4/13/2011
  • "Went for a business lunch. Food was good, but the character of the place sold me on it. Great place to negotiate."
    Dined on 3/10/2011
  • "Booked a table expecting to order off the menu. They were only serving a set menu for $65. That wouldn't have been a problem but the food quality was only ok, the kind of thing you would expect at far less reputable places. It was simply disappointing."

  • "We went on Thanksgiving, so it was a buffet. I brought my two almost-15 year-olds. They actually raved about the food. Appetizers were hearts of palm and arugola, julienned beets, and a quite tasty caponata. There was a seafood bar. The oysters were not very flavorful, and the snow crab claws were probably recently thawed (they had too much liquid) but were flavorful. The large shrimp were delicious. The mains were fresh roasted turkey carved to order, which was tender and moist, and served with superb giblet gravy, and the hit of the evening, rack of lamb that was tender and flavorful and made my kids who are not normally lamb eaters, rave. Reasonably fine assorted pies for dessert, especially a fruit tart on which the berries sang."

  • "The service was really good and the food decent, but the place is expensive. There are too many places in NYC that are much better. It is perfect for what it is, a restaurant in a hotel where you can get a bite to eat."

  • "In spite of some reviews which seem to imply that it is more than it is, namely a fairly high priced dining area within the lobby of an old-worldish NY hotel. Service was friendly and fast, and the restaurant clean and correct. Downsides include overpriced food ($25 for a cobb salad which consisted mostly of lettuce) and being exposed to the lobby with people checking in about 30 feet away. I would only go if I were staying in the hotel in which case it would be fine for a quick dinner before hitting the sack."
    Dined on 3/31/2010
  • "The food and service was excellent. My guest/client and I were able to hear one another across the table and did not have to shout, even though the restaurant was full. I will definitely return for brunch!"

  • "Excellent Menu, good service and a great price for a Midtown establishment."

  • "Excellent service. Roast chicken was delicious. Was not crowded the night we went as the 4th largest snowstorm drove many visitors away."

  • "I am in NYC almost once a week and I meet meet for busines discussions over breakfast, lunch or coffee/tea, always have the right experience. Often don't make a reservation in advance but I am always accomodated. Some of the staff have gotten to know me, they are very good at their work."

  • "We had lunch on a busy day between Christmas and New Year's, but the restaurant, unlike the streets, was nearly empty--great for us, but obviously not a hot-spot. We had to flag down someone to seat us, but after that service was fine, though not impressive. My mother-in-law and I had the French onion soup, which was very tasty, as was the endive salad with sun-dried tomatoes and olives. Even my kids ate that and asked the waiter for the recipe for the dressing! We went to this restaurant because it is a nice place with a kids' menu, which can be difficult to find. The grownups could have a very satisfying meal in a pleasant environment (lovely tree in the lobby, some quiet holiday bustle) and the kids were able to order food they'd like."

  • "We took our kids for the brunch buffet during the Christmas holiday and had a great experience. Ask for Fernando -- he's a fabulous waiter!"

  • "Classic Hotel Lobby Breakfast/Brunch scene: 90% guests coming down for eats, 10% outsiders. On Sunday only Brunch Buffet offered. Complete selection of eggs, meats, carbs; no made-to-order omlets or waffles; no ordering off the menu. Paying for location and ambiance of a gracious up-dated hotel."
