When they closed our favorite Spanish restaurant in Cleveland, my wife found Barcelona. This was one of our best experiences anywhere. It all starts with Chris P who was one of the most knowledgeable and attentive waiters we ever had. Most of their menu changes weekly. They have a special tapas listing, with 6 or 7 entries, that you can order individually or all as a meal. We combined this with the Paella Mariscos (Seafood) and the combination was one of the tastiest meals we ever had. Along with a carafe of their Sangria made it an excellent time. I do not go to "nice" places often to eat and was worried I wouldn't find anything on the menu I liked. I was wrong! I had the Alaskan Halibut and it was incredible. I followed it up by splitting a raspberry and chocolate dessert with a friend, and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. The food is always delicious but this time, the hummus appetizer was so spicy with raw garlic it was difficult to eat and we are garlic lovers! We left quite a bit. Some of the crackers that were paired with it were very hard. The chickpea appetizer was delish! Our entrée was delicious...the salmon special and the halibut.

I had the Spanish Onion Soup and the Credo (Pork) and both were equally delicious. I also enjoyed the guitarist (I was there on a Sunday night). At first I thought it would be authentic Spanish music but I was pleasantly surprised when I heard the melody of 'Come Together' by the Beatles and 'Dream On'! I definitely would love to come back and have already suggested it to friends. If I could give one note, I would say that the restaurant is not fit for young children. The Tapas as appetizers and the main courses were perfect. We were particularly pleased that we were not rushed, nor did we feel neglected. Time between courses was appropriate and relaxing. My wife's dessert, when she tried it, was not to her liking. It was graciously exchanged for another that she really enjoyed. My husband and I started off with Calamares Fritos - flash fried calamari. Although a little seasoning was needed, they were very fresh and fried to perfection!
For our entrees, I had the Paella de Costillas y Vieras – braised beef short ribs/pan roasted scallops soaked in herbs/spices over calasparra rice! It was amazing!! I could taste every flavor and if I had not eaten the fresh bread brought to us, I would have devoured every bite! Beautiful!)4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMEvery time I'm in ColumbusEvery time I'm in Columbus I try to have dinner at Barcelona and I am never disapponited. It's a great way to impress business companions. This time I had the pork shank and it was fantastic, especially with the potato puree and the mushroom rosemary sauce. To top it off I had the dessert special of goat cheese and rosemary ice cream. OMG!!! I think the waiter said it is homemade and if it is, you need to sell it in stores because I would eat it by the bucket full.
It seems my dinners always stretch to 3 plus hours because the food and ambience is so conducive to long leisurely chats. When weather permits I always ask for the patio.
