Diner Reviews
  • "the best thing our first time here was the server - William was very focused on us at all times I'd rate our snap-pea salad and grilled octopus very high - also the meatballs but the meatballs and the pizza were served almost together, so that by the time we finished the meatballs, the pizza was no longer hot, and the cheese and egg kind of congealed - this would NEVER happen at Osteria with the Lombarda - and we were hoping Barbuzzo would be a Center City version of Osteria, our favorite Italian place in Philadelphia - well, it's not but pretty good we'll go back, but we'll sit at the bar next time rather than three inches from a couple shouting at each other - and we will stage our orders better"

  • "Not one thing we had was disappointing. Everything we tried was delicious. The house antipasto is a favorite."

  • "The food was great but not perfection or like the Mecca some comments say. However, it is very much worth a go since the food is delicious and the ambiance was awesome! Another great restaurant in Philly."

  • "I enjoyed the great variety of vegetables and cheese on the antipasti place (with only the turnips not a favorite), and my husband thought his braised shortrib sandwich with rosemary fries was delicious. A great spot for lunch."

  • "food was great, but waited 45 minutes to get our first round of drinks. people sitting right next to us that came about 15 minutes after us already had there food before we even got our drinks. overall very good place but maybe a little over rated."

  • "The menu was great with a lot of unique dishes and great combinations of ingredients, but it was significantly over-salted. Almost everything was too salty."

  • "This was our fourth trip to Barbuzzo's and it did not disappoint. Celebrating my husband's 52nd birthday with our 15 and 22yr old sons. We try to get to Barbuzzos when visiting our son in college. Love everything we have tried on the menu. The salted caramel budino is a must try dessert. Will really miss this restaurant when our son graduates this year."

  • "Incredible food--love the sheeps milk ricotta, meatballs, asparago pizza, parsnip ravioli, gnocchi, arancini, and the caramel budino. Excellent wine list, beautiful ambience, and exciting location. My boyfriend and I can not get enough of this restaurant and come here on most special occasions. Come hungry!"

  • "We ate early...5:15 was the only reservation we could get! Food ws interesting and tasty. Wines seemed overpriced, so we opted for pitcher of Sangria, which started off being good but soon got watery with all the ice in the pitcher."

  • "Dined there Thursday night and it is a cut above the rest by the comment of one person who said that whenever you go it's always crowded. The food is superior . The only drawback is that it's cramped and noisy."

  • "Yep the food is savory though the apple brussel sprout salad was a bit on the too salty side. Loved size of dishes. But the combination of loud music and a full restaurant made the whole conversation between three people more like a shouting match."

  • "I was there two days in a row and found the food really good, but the noise level annoyingly loud."

  • "the food choice is quite good and size is moderate, not too small. it's really tiny and crowded. it's good for 4 people, not for 2. You are too close to your neighbors and it's inconvenient to get out. the food is surprisingly salty for my friend and I."

  • "We arrived at 5:30 on a weekday night, for a preshow dinner. I highly recommend reservations. The ambiance is ok, a bit noisy once it filled up, which it did. Everything we had was good - the grapefruit and fennel salad was just right, the oft-touted ricotta appetizer with grilled bread was sublime. We split the gnocchi, and the pan seared shrimp. Flavors are well layered and quite strong, but delicious. Don't look for subtlety here. Service was professional and attentive. I had two really excellent glasses of wine, after discussion with the waiter - both were good recommendations. The much discussed budino was delicious, and was really complemented by excellent espresso. The prices run a bit high as the plates are small plates."

  • "Great selection, we had fun choosing a number of dishes to share - one suggestion is when the patrons want to share items, make sure there are lots of utensils to use, we constantly we asking for them. Loved the dessert, will return for sure"

  • "Good was awesome as always. My 5 year old loved everything. Service started great but then our server disappeared after the meal came. It was after the lunch rush so I'm not sure what happened. We ordered a budino but due to the wait cancelled the order. They did give me a budino gratis to go. That was a very nice gesture and almost made up for the lack of service. But I had been raving about the budino to my out of town guests that joined me and they didn't get to try it. Still love the place though."

  • "Although the food was great, the music level was deafening. In addition, we did not receive a dish we had ordered but didn't realize until the way home. A little disappointing."

  • "I went with a group of girls for wine week. This was my 3rd time at Barbuzzo. I can always expect great service, an intriguing menu, and delicious food. Two things to definitely try: Sheeps milk ricotta for appetizer and salted caramel budino for dessert"

  • "The food is excellent at this establishment. My husband and I have visited this restaurant on numerous occasions. This Saturday we stopped in for a quick lunch and ended up being there for a 1.5 plus. The server was okay, nothing special not the greatest. He was great at first, but then disappeared. Food - excellent and highly recommend. I got the goat cheese and beet salad and the burger. My husband got the mediterrean olives and the roasted turkey sandwich. We skipped dessert."

  • "We've been to Barbuzzo several times. This time was lackluster. It was a Monday late-evening. We specifically went for the special, which unfortunately sold out by the time we got there. Bummer. The service was awkward with really slow pacing. I was not pleased. The food was okay. The mushroom pasta was flavorful but the texture was mealy and gritty. I don't recommend that dish. The rest of the food was good. Generally we have a good time at Barbuzzo but I thought this time was a total miss."

  • "Wonderful food, I especially recommend the beet salad. Pizza is creative and very tasty, but too much crust. Service was just unaccommodating. I asked for an addition to a pizza and they wouldn't do it. Weird/annoying."

  • "I would drive the two hours back to Philly just for the Caciocavallo stuffed meatballs. Pasta and pizza were excellent as well. Reasonable prices, quality ingredients, top-notch service and lovely dining atmosphere. Will definitely be back."

  • "Looked for places to get lunch around Market Street East train station and found Barbuzzo on the web. It turned out to be a nice find. I really enjoyed my lunch. The food was fresh and very tasty. My lunch companion and I said that we would come back when in the area!"

  • "Love the energy! Wish they would offer the grilled vegetables at night, and a few more seafood options.. But all is tasty... Our waiter aimed to please.. When the shrimp dish came out way too salty, he took it back ASAP , and corrected the problem.. Great waiter!"

  • "Amazing food, great service but it's a noisy place for conversation. Really great for young people to meet and great and be in the scene."

  • "As a Baltimoron, going to Philly is a treat. We love to explore all that Philly has to offer and this is a gem to say the least. Its tight quarters, but intimate rather than claustrophobic. The atmosphere is chic, the wait staff were attentive. The apps and plates are great to share, however small. They were inventive spins on classic favorites. But on a much more serious note, the pizza we had (the 'famous' Uovo pizza) was truly a surprise. It quickly became one of my top 5 favorite slices. Perfect crunchy yet fluffy thin crust, a secret white sauce that was not heavy or greasy, brussel leaves singed lightly to perfection, just the right amount of cheese and a poached egg topper that steals the show. I recommend to small groups with $$$."

  • "I have only one negative comment - it was extremely tight in terms of space. They had very small tables, jammed close together - so you were pretty much all one party even if you came separately and, supposedly, dined separately. There was no room for waiters to comfortably wait on tables. Everyone (waiters and diners alike) were rubbing elbows with each other. They need to have more space between the tables. I'm pretty sure that one day a waiter is going to dump food all over either a customer or another waiter!!! Other than that, no complaints. We had a very good server and the food was excellent"

  • "The restaurant is terrific! Food is wonderful!! Only problem is that you cannot read the menu - we had to use the flashlights on our phones in order to read the menu. We asked the host and he said that is the way the owners want it!! Rather strange response."

  • "This is my new favorite restaurant in Philadelphia. Food was absolutely amazing - we had the Arancini, Ravioli, Gnocchi, and Meatballs. All were superb. The dessert - the salted caramel budino - was heaven in a jar and the best dessert I have ever eaten (and I've eaten a lot). Service was excellent. The only down sides were the noise level and the tight quarters, as has been mentioned in other reviews - but the food and the service more than made up for this!"

  • "We were visiting Philly and wanted a good restaurant in walking distance from our hotel. We came across some nice reviews of this restaurant online and their menu seemed interesting and fresh. We enjoyed a lovely meal there. They do unique combinations of vegetables here mixing raw with cooked dishes and the pasta we had was superb. Great use of locally sourced ingredients and very skilled with preparation. Highly recommend Barbuzzo !! Only drawback would be the long waits, small spaces between tables and way too low house lights making reading the menu a challenge."

  • "Delicious food. Loved the beet salad and sangria. Tables are very, very close together. Also, if you get a table towards the walk way/ bar people will bump into your table - its inevitable. Was a little difficult to talk."
