  • "I've always loved the chicken dish in Barbuto. Having not been back for a while, I was excited to take my sis and friend who we're visiting NYC for a tasty italian dinner in a classically NYC joint. But everyone was disappointed. The noise level that night was at an exceptional level - we had to shout at each other just to carry on a conversation. While the roast chicken was tasty, everything else seemed overly seasoned with lemon. My sister ordered a pasta dish - the tagatalia - that she said tasted very much like the lemony kale that came as a starter. All together a rather disappointing night."

  • "Food was very good and the service excellent. Started with teh Kale salad whch was both plentiful and tasted good. Tried several pastas (careful the Carbanara was high in pepper so if you do not like pepper, stay away). Gnocci was flavorful. For main course, the chicken (house specialty) was good and juicy but I generally like to eat something other than chicken. The porgy, a flaky white fish, was very good and worth a try if you have not had it before. No sides are provided with main meal but the rosemary potatoes were good. Drinks were good but nothing spectacular. Had the sangria and would recommend that if you want to keep it simple. All in all, it is a bit pricey but the meal and service are good. Definitely worth a trip ."

  • "Chose Barbuto to celebrate my 40th birthday with friends. Had a wonderful experience! Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Definitely start with the kale salad; to die for! You can't go wrong with any of the pasta dishes either. Jonathan Waxman made the evening even more special by signing my menu with birthday wishes. I will definitely be back!"

  • "The chicken was superb. The other items that we had included two pizzas and the bruschetta. The pizza was ok and the bruschetta was a blend of goat cheese and lemon zest....quite different from anything I have had before. Overall, the food was quite good, but it was very expensive. I can only rate it 3 stars overall."

  • "We made this a reunion spot for 6 people who hadn't been together in about 10 years. The food was great and the service was truly outstanding. We had lots fun, only downside was a bit difficult to learn conversations but we managed and had a great time. Our group consisted of mixed ages between 40's and 60's. All agreed it was a great place!"

  • "My husband and I went there for lunch. We were early for our reservations so we sat at the bar and had tasty drinks that the bartender either recommended or made up himself. The bartender was very friendly and we chatted with him a while. The restaurant in the middle of the day (after a snow) was practically empty, which was nice because we happened to meet a famous couple there that were the only other people in the restaurant. We then sat at a table by the window and had a wonderful lunch. I had the pollo al forno, which was incredible and we shared the potatoes, also wonderful. My husband had the steak and he loved it. For dessert, we had the pudding, the best ever, so rich.. GREAT PLACE! will do back next time in NYC."

  • "Came here with 3 companions for dinner. Among us, we ordered: orecchiette con fagioli; rigatoni al forno; cappe sante ai ferri. The rigatoni came out horrendously undercooked and had to be sent back. Waiter claimed that it had been "al dente" but the pasta was in fact RAW. The orecchiette were acceptable but not particularly memorable. The scallops were tasty but the olive oil was excessive. Cocktails were fine but nothing to write home about. We passed on dessert because the food had been a disappointment. Special occasion notation went completely unrecognized by the restaurant. I generally do not mind spending money if the restaurant delivers on great food, ambiance, and service. Barbuto was incapable of delivering any of the above."

  • "especially in evening this is a serene atmosphere to enjoy dinner, esp. a Sunday evening. Menu always changing. Service very good. Kitchen is on high speed. Food comes out quickly and probably one of the more flavorful meals. Salads, charchuteri platter; pork loin, chicken & pasta dishes all fantastic . Made a reservation two weeks before, noted it was a birthday , upon walking in hostess seats us next to preparation/ cash register area. We asked to move, they immediatley accomodated us to another table of our choice."

  • "Recently had an early lunch at Barbuto, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a casual yet delicious lunch. The decor of Barbuto is hip without being over the top. Chef Waxman's Chicken Al Forno is one of the most juicy, perfectly cooked chicken dishes I have ever tasted. Wine list by the glass was fun, and went nicely with the food. My only critique would be that while the portion of chicken was enormous, it didn't come with any starch or vegetables. Had the server told me this (since its not clear on the menu) I would have ordered one of the vegetable sides. Overall, great meal and I would recommend it to others!"

Received the same response for a request for a Coke. Kind of get it, but the waiters should be armed with a clear, simple explanation to provide to diners."

  • "I knew I'd be having the roast chicken Jonathan Waxman's famous for (among many other things) when I finally visited Barbuto and boy was I thrilled that I did. I never order chicken at a restaurant and this is changing my opinion. This is by far the best chicken I've had. The skin is beyond crispy, the meat is juicy and favorful and the herb "dressing" gilding the lily is to die for. For starters, we had the bruschetta and that was delicious with an olive tapenade. The wine list is full of amazing finds that pair up to the food beautifully. Oustanding meal."

  • "Excellent service. Waiter knew wine and gave a recommendation that my husband and I really enjoyed. All the meals were good: steak and pasta dishes. The desserts were excellent. The Napoleon was the best I ever had. My daughter got the cookies. I would never usually order cookies for dessert, but she brought a few home and I had them later that evening. Delicious."

  • "The roast chicken seems to be the most talked about in NY according to a friend and it certainly was good. I can also recommend the bruschetta with salt cod, which was out of this world. Good cocktails and an excellent Californian Pinot Noir. Despite being very early (and our friend being late) the staff were attentive and not phased by our early arrival. The only thing is the portions are too big (for us anyway) and we were never given any bread with olive oil, which everyone else seemed to get."
