We are locals and regulars. The
food is always consistent, and delicious, with generous portions, as well as attentive service. A neighbourhood gem."

Awesome restaurant. The food was
incredible and the service was outstanding."

Barbuto is always a winner. The
steak, pasta and pizza are always winners. The staff are amazing, our last trip we benefited by having Lucas as our waiter, he was terrific. My favorite is the Pasta Putanesca!"

great food, drink and service.

Truly a Top 10 meal. Rustic
Italian prepared perfectly. Get the chicken with salsa verde and potatoes with rosemary. Dont forget the chocolate pudding. A meal to remember"

Great lunch! Portions are huge.
Two people could definitely share one chicken order for lunch with any of the yummy side dishes."

Not only do we dine here
frequently - Because the the food is so terrific - we love to share it with out of town guests who inevitably love it as well. Amazing staff and great unobtrusive service. You will love Barbuto and be calling It your go to place. And for NYC standards - u don't break the bank."

This restaurant was fantastic. We
caught a glimpse of the legendary Jonathon Waxman as he wandered around the dining room greeting people. The food was well seasoned and portions were very generous. (I did family style meal). The food just kept coming even though we could not take any more. All in all, it was a great experience."

My husband and I went there for
lunch. We were early for our reservations so we sat at the bar and had tasty drinks that the bartender either recommended or made up himself. The bartender was very friendly and we chatted with him a while. The restaurant in the middle of the day (after a snow) was practically empty, which was nice because we happened to meet a famous couple there that were the only other people in the restaurant. We then sat at a table by the window and had a wonderful lunch. I had the pollo al forno, which was incredible and we shared the potatoes, also wonderful. My husband had the steak and he loved it. For dessert, we had the pudding, the best ever, so rich.. GREAT PLACE! will do back next time in NYC."

Came here with 3 companions for
dinner. Among us, we ordered: orecchiette con fagioli; rigatoni al forno; cappe sante ai ferri. The rigatoni came out horrendously undercooked and had to be sent back. Waiter claimed that it had been "al dente" but the pasta was in fact RAW. The orecchiette were acceptable but not particularly memorable. The scallops were tasty but the olive oil was excessive. Cocktails were fine but nothing to write home about. We passed on dessert because the food had been a disappointment. Special occasion notation went completely unrecognized by the restaurant. I generally do not mind spending money if the restaurant delivers on great food, ambiance, and service. Barbuto was incapable of delivering any of the above."

especially in evening this is a
serene atmosphere to enjoy dinner, esp. a Sunday evening. Menu always changing. Service very good. Kitchen is on high speed. Food comes out quickly and probably one of the more flavorful meals. Salads, charchuteri platter; pork loin, chicken & pasta dishes all fantastic . Made a reservation two weeks before, noted it was a birthday , upon walking in hostess seats us next to preparation/ cash register area. We asked to move, they immediatley accomodated us to another table of our choice."

Spur of the moment me and toe
friend went to barbuto on a Tuesday night! Got a great corner table, amazing bottle of wine and had the most delicious food. Rigatoni with sausage and kale amazing dish! It's one of Giadi's favorite spots too!"

Recently had an early lunch at
Barbuto, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a casual yet delicious lunch. The decor of Barbuto is hip without being over the top. Chef Waxman's Chicken Al Forno is one of the most juicy, perfectly cooked chicken dishes I have ever tasted. Wine list by the glass was fun, and went nicely with the food. My only critique would be that while the portion of chicken was enormous, it didn't come with any starch or vegetables. Had the server told me this (since its not clear on the menu) I would have ordered one of the vegetable sides. Overall, great meal and I would recommend it to others!"

One of us asked the waiter for
ketchup. That was a 'no no' request. The waiter's explanation was a bit vague but it seemed obvious that that was an affront to the kitchen. Received the same response for a request for a Coke. Kind of get it, but the waiters should be armed with a clear, simple explanation to provide to diners."

Everything we ordered was
exceptional : the mussels, JW chicken, trout, steak, gnocchi and roasted brussel sprouts. Cant wait to go back!"

Food is great. Service is always
attentive. 1st choice for us when we friends come in from out of town."
Dined on 1/22/2014
I knew I'd be having the roast
chicken Jonathan Waxman's famous for (among many other things) when I finally visited Barbuto and boy was I thrilled that I did. I never order chicken at a restaurant and this is changing my opinion. This is by far the best chicken I've had. The skin is beyond crispy, the meat is juicy and favorful and the herb "dressing" gilding the lily is to die for. For starters, we had the bruschetta and that was delicious with an olive tapenade. The wine list is full of amazing finds that pair up to the food beautifully. Oustanding meal."
Dined on 1/18/2014
Excellent service. Waiter knew
wine and gave a recommendation that my husband and I really enjoyed. All the meals were good: steak and pasta dishes. The desserts were excellent. The Napoleon was the best I ever had. My daughter got the cookies. I would never usually order cookies for dessert, but she brought a few home and I had them later that evening. Delicious."
Dined on 1/17/2014
Everyone from the Bartender to the
wait staff was outstanding going out of their way to be helpful and accommodating. Food was simple but perfectly prepared. One of the most enjoyable dinners I have had."

Whenever we have guests from out
of town - this is a fail-safe. Terrific food, service and environment. In temperate weather - stroll your guests down the high line to14th Street - Dinner at Barbuto - and then complete it by walking them through the W Village. Perfect Night."

Talk about unique, anold service
station with giant glass doors and rustic furniture. The kitchen is very visible and fun to watch. The Italian pancakes were sumptuous! great coffee! and deserts were terrific."
Dined on 1/5/2014
We really enjoyed the meal here.
The Brussels sprouts and the gnocchi were really excellent"
Dined on 1/7/2014
The roast chicken seems to be the
most talked about in NY according to a friend and it certainly was good. I can also recommend the bruschetta with salt cod, which was out of this world. Good cocktails and an excellent Californian Pinot Noir. Despite being very early (and our friend being late) the staff were attentive and not phased by our early arrival. The only thing is the portions are too big (for us anyway) and we were never given any bread with olive oil, which everyone else seemed to get."
Dined on 12/30/2013
I had high hopes for Barbuto but
was very disappointed. The service was luke warm at best. The hostess was rude and the waitress made us wait well over 10 minutes before acknowledging our presence. She refused to give us additional bread and would not do a pasta with butter for a child in the party. She was friendly but she was not a good wait person. She forgot one of the sides, forgot a glass of wine and never addressed this. When we finally got her attention, we were done with our meal. Honestly, not worth the schlep and not worth the prices. Big let down."
Dined on 12/30/2013
Limited menu but creative italian
cuisine and entrees reasonably priced, however portions generally small and entrees are a la carte so you need to order appetizer and pasta course. Food prep was creative and great presentation. It is in a converted garage with many garage doors that open in warmer weather. It was a bit cold when we first sat down on a December night..but a martini warmed things. I would return. Great locatoon with parking on street and walking distance to other more vibrant bars after."
Dined on 12/26/2013
I don't know why you'd go. it's
ok. Servers seem to be a little arrogant & hard to get their attention. The food is ok."
Dined on 12/22/2013
Setting feels like an old garage
with overhead doors and cement floors; could be great in the spring and fall. Not cozy in the least on a snowy evening. So loud when the tables filled up that three people couldn't carry on a conversation without yelling. Although not a family style restaurant, if you took young, crying kids no one would ever know because they would be drowned out by the adult loud conversations. No bar to speak of for cocktails before dining. Menu was interesting but not terribly inventive. Most interesting thing of the evening was every dish served to us was excessively salty. This was the opinion of all of our group after tasting each other's items. Glad we tried it but will leave this one off our list."

Barbuto is simply GOOD. Nothing
fancy just excellent food and a neighborhood gem. Reasonably priced for NYC. I never went out to dinner and ordered chicken, can eat that at home. Tried it once at Barbuto, based on a recommendation, and I was hooked. Seasoned well and prepared to perfection. Dishes are a little small but overall a great dinner. Located in an old garage, Barbuto turns into an outdoor venue when the weather permits. Barbuto is New York."

We had pizza and pasta, both were
perfect. Service was great as well."

A great place. Apps are crazy
good. Specials are incredible"
Dined on 12/22/2013
Overall, I love Barbuto's food and
atmosphere. The service, however, leaves something to be desired. Our server wasn't terribly attentive from the beginning, and completely disappeared once our entrees arrived, and we waited at least 20 minutes for anyone else to attend to us. In the end, we opted for our check instead of coffee and dessert due to the poor service. We were there at lunch, so the place wasn't that busy, but I have also had slow service when I have been there for dinner. The food "is"worth the slow service, but just don't go if you are on a schedule."

Very good time at this vibrant
spot with pleasant competent matte d' and servers. As advertised, outstanding chicken. Plentiful Portions and Succulent. Very reasonably priced with good value. Overall a fun place with no significant negatives. Will be back in the near future"

everything was great, but it was
very, very noisy. definitely not the place for a business meeting. chicken was exceptional as was the gnocchi."
Dined on 12/4/2013
The food never disappoints--quite
the opposite--and that includes the great wine list. The wait staff are the best, the sommelier too."

Everyone in my family loves
visiting New York, and we enjoy planning together on where to eat. Barbuto was the perfect place to enjoy a festive family meal: interesting drinks, wonderful food, and outstanding service. Our waiter recommended just the right wine. We all appreciated the relatively low noise level that allowed for easy conversation. Barbuto presents a comfortable, elegant, and delicious restaurant experience."

We went to Barbuto for our
Thanksgiving dinner and left even more thankful than we were when arrived. The food was well-thought, well-executed, bringing new notes to its Italian roots. We enjoyed the lovely ambiance, the friendly service and the evident freshness of all food served. Everything was delicious, but we have to highlight the fantastic salads (and I don't even like greens...), the superb ravioli and the mind-blowing desserts (we can't single one out because both the millefoglie and the pumpkin spice cake were impecable). We also tasted very good wine on their recommendations for the special Thanksgiving feast menu. We will definitely be back whenever we visit New York."

My wife, my mother and I went to
Barbuto because it's right around the corner from my mom's apartment. It still wasn't worth the trip. WAAAAY too noisy. I HATE having to yell to someone across the table from me. Everything we ordered was too salty and/or over-spiced. Ribollita with hot peppers in it for goodness sake. Why? My mom can't eat highly spiced food, particularly with any kind of chilis in it. We said that to the waiter in some detail. We expected Ribollita (Tuscan bean and escarole soup "reboiled"), and got Pepper Pot soup. All of our entrees and sides were too salty. If a fish filet is made with pancetta, it doesn't need additional salt. Mr. Waxman, food doesn't taste like this in Italy. And install some acoustic panels."

Great restaurant overall. Service
was impeccable and the food was delicious. The wine list is also attractive."

After 3 trips to New York I
finally made the reservation early enough to score a lunch reservation( dinner was booked a month out) So sorry to say the food was a huge disappointment. The lunch/ brunch menu was lacking in choices and variety. We were told the frittata with brussel sprouts, asiago cheese, and butternut squash was amazing by our waitress. What we tasted was whipped eggs with the random sprout and occasional squash morsel. My husbands was over cooked. When he dared to ask for hot sauce he was told with a blank stare that she could offer chili flakes only!!! No salt/pepper on the table either My 11 year old makes a taster egg dish!! Perhaps dinner is better ??????"
Dined on 11/23/2013
Celebrated with two friends. The
food was delicious (gnocchi with delicata squash a definite A+). The waitress was absolutely wonderful, could not have been better. But, oh, the din. By the end of dinner we were yelling to be heard. Still, an overall great experience, would definitely go back when I'm in the mood for boisterous."
