  • "Trendy NYC restaurants so often have snobby service. How refreshing at Barbounnia! It's a pretty place with high ceilings, and a clean, open feeling. Food was fresh, and different - lamb kebobs came baked under the pita, tangine style, keeping them delightfully spicy and moist. The octopus appy was crisp and popping. Oven baked chicken had a very crisp skin. The Greek style cheesecake was a ricotta/mozzeralla mix, baked in a thin sandwich of phyllo pastry covered in rose water and pistachios with ice cream - exceptionall. But the service was really what separates Barbounnia from others. It was Father's Day, we were with our own (messy) dad, and there were others with wheelchairs, or walkers, and they were so kind and attentive. T"

  • "Great spot for what I like to think of as the quintessential NYC boozy brunch. Actually, Barbounia takes it up a notch and does it a little classier than many of the other typical spots. I actually like the champagne they use and the staff all have heavy generous, flexible wrists. Recently celebrated a birthday brunch here and it was a great time. Cant go wrong with the croque madame, calamari, or burger."

  • "I keep on coming back for Lamb Terracotta and Iron skillet shrimp. Love the restrooms in this place (Unisex), very Mediterranean feel to it. I wish they didn't change the presentation of their signature dessert called Selan. Instead of a plate it now comes in a whiskey glass, takes away all the joy from the dessert. A bit noisy but worth it."

We wanted to linger a little bit because we were there to celebrate my college graduation dinner, but we got the impression that they wanted to get us out of the restaurant as soon as possible. The food and ambience are outstanding, but the service is lacking. "

  • "Server forgot to put in an order for a couple of appetizers and did not even bother to apologize or appear sorry when the mistake was brought to his attention. On top of that, one of the runners did not wash his hands after going to the bathroom (a fellow diner spotted him). We alerted the manager who was very attentive. Barbounia used to be a go-to spot for me and my friends, and now I will have to re-think this. While it is a gorgeous space with good food and drinks, I cannot overlook the service issues. What a shame."

  • "Had a reservation via Open Table and called the restaurant to inform them that we were running late. They ended up cancelling the reservations but did accomodate us with a table once we arrived. It was quite busy since it was Sunday and Mother's day and our service was a little slow (I think it was just our section/server) because the rest of the restaurant seemed to be getting serviced well. The food was delicious and the ambiance was good and we will definitely go back. "

  • "My family and I went there for Easter dinner – great service nice ambiance – the person that was seating us had either her teeth pulled out the day before or she did not know how to smile for any reason and the food was missing flavors. I am a Greek descent and have eaten in 100 ‘s of Greek restaurants all over the world and absolutely no magic flavors that jumped out at you for the level of restaurant this is from the salad or main course. Would I go there again absolutely not ! I have never written a review before. "

  • "Barbounia is the perfect place to go if you are looking for an energetic brunch with great food! They have drink specials and a wide array of items on the menu to choose from. The service is always outstanding. I recently went here for an Easter brunch and you'd think there would be some hiccups with the restaurant being so busy but they were on top of everything. This is also a great wine spot and place to meet your friends for drink and light fare after work."
