Diner Reviews
  • "I came to Barbounia by a co-worker suggestion. The $18.95 unlimited drinks was what motivated me the most. And I absolutely love the treat and service."

  • "This restaurant is unsophisticated and the people serving you are not switched on. I'm sorry to say , just order the pizza."

  • "It being the first time there, I thought that the restaurant looked really nice from the inside. I went for brunch, I thought that the brunch options on the menu were okay, but I was expecting more. I ordered the Lamb Kepap Pita which was really good, and two of my friends ordered the spinach omelet. Unfortunately, the omelets tasted like they came out of a box, not good at all. Other than that, I really enjoyed the unlimited amount of mimosas. The staff was really nice and polite and the ambiance was great."

  • "Food was ok. Not worth the price. Service was lacking. It took a really long time for is to get a waiter's attention after we were seated. Our waiter was also not very nice... He was snooty and curt. If the service was better, we'd return, but it's not worth it to pay so much for mediocre food and rude service."

  • "Great spot for business lunch.... Recommend reservations at lunch just to be safe if you don't want to wait, since it fills up. Excellent food and good service."

  • "Great ambiance, really cool restaurant. Food was ok, nothing special but pretty good. Waiter was strange though, just didnt get a good vibe from him. And he charged us for unlimited drinks even though we only ordered one. Id potentially go back, but definitely would not want that waiter again!"

  • "Went here for brunch on Sunday and I have zero complaints. The service was amazing - friendly staff and we never had an empty glass. The food was incredible and you can't beat the bottomless mimosa's."

  • "Truly friendly and helpful staff, who went out of their way to help our party of 4. Only downside is the prices, which are high relative to the food, which was good but not fantastic."

  • "We went for Sunday brunch based on a friend's recommendation. The waiter acted like he was doing us a favor by taking our order. He wasn't attentive and we had to request coffee refills several times. I ordered a mushroom omelet after my simple request to substitute spinach for eggplant in another omelet - waiter said they won't make any substitutions in menu. The eggs had no flavor, the mushrooms were poorly cooked and there was way too much cheese. My date had the creamed spinach with baked eggs and also felt it lacked flavor or even basic seasoning of salt and pepper. It also felt like they were trying to rush us to turn tables faster - not at all the leisurely Sunday brunch we hoped for."

  • "The decor creates a very nice atmosphere when you first walk in. I was surprised that I had booked a table for a 10 am reservation when the kitchen doesn't open til 10:30. So were the people at the table next to us, since they had also booked a 10 am reservation. Service was very poor. We were ignored completely for 15 minutes and then spoken to rather rudely when asking for a cup of tea. The wait staff are not very accommodating. However, when we did get our food, it was beautifully presented and delicious. I would try this restaurant again before dismissing it. But the staff should be a bit more service oriented."

  • "I've been here for lunch before a few years back but did not realize it. The space is quite large and the over sized decorations really make you feel like you're part of something grand. The noise level was quite energetic as there seemed to be an office lunch outing there as well. We were seated within the oh so comfy booth area. Our waiter, knowing our 1 hour time constraint, timed everything perfectly. The food was great. What stuck out to me most was the rose water panna cotta. The plating was very unique and the rosewater taste was not overpowering. I would definitely like to come back here for more delicious food and great lively lunches!"

  • "My friends and I went there for restaurant week and the food was excellent. It has a dim light setting with beautiful decor that create a very relaxing environment. The noise level is a bit high if u r going for a nice quiet meal but perfect for a lively fun conversation with friends."

  • "We went for restaurant week and tried that prix-fixe menu. The place is lovely and pretty popular, but the noise level is too high to really carry on a decent conversation. I'm glad we tried it for restaurant week, because we got to try it at a somewhat reasonable price. My chicken was fairly bland, my friend's pork was overly spiced. But I do agree with other reviews that the hummus is really good. However, we tried two desserts and weren't crazy about either of those. Overall, the food was ok, but not outstanding, so because of that and the noise level, and the normal price of the food, I don't think I'll be back."

  • "I've been coming here since it opened its doors almost 10 years ago and without fail the food has always been great and the atmosphere, with help of the high ceilings and open kitchen, always loud and lively. Order lots of apps and sides to share. A trio of mazze and hot, fresh bread along with the buratta are absolute must have. You can't go wrong with any of the fish options on the menu but the Bronzino and dorado are easy favorites. I can't say I've ever even tried the dessert. If I have it wasn't memorable. I'd much rather keep ordering more food. Always fresh. Always flavorful. Always great."

  • "Great ambiance, but a bit of a disappointment. We were seated next to the hot kitchen, my date was sweating the whole time and the food was meh. The Restaurant Week bill should have been 38x2, but with one extra appetizer and 3 glasses of wine, it came to 180. Felt like a low class bait and switch."

  • "had a wonderful meal at barbounia on saturday night. started with wonderful tzatziki spread, burrata and flatbread. both of us then had a simple white fish with a beautiful farro, squash and brussels sprouts medley. noise level was perfectly fine, great ambiance. one qualm was our waitress. she kept harassing us as to why our third friend hadnt arrived on time (she was stuck at work). she must have come up to us at least eight times to either ask us or shuffle around our menus making a fuss. i found this incredibly rude and impolite at such a nice restaurant. AMAZING food and come back, but waitress left a sour taste."

  • "My friends and I had a wonderful experience at the Barbounia restaurant. The food and service was excellent. I was very impressed."

  • "Barbounia is beautiful restaurant and the food is quite good and the service excellent. The meze, in particular, are some of the best I've tasted in the U.S. On this last visit, however, the tables were shoved in so close together that it was nearly impossible to walk between them. As we were led to our table, the hostess had to try to go around in several directions, as it was impossible to get through. The focus of our dinner was then watching the servers trying to get through the tightly packed chairs to get to the tables, rather than enjoying the experience."

  • "AMAZING! We use to live in the neighborhood and we would come once a week. We moved downtown so we do not come as often, but every time we do we have a great time and great food. The only issue is the table are SO close together. It feels like you are dining with the people next to you. The mezze is the BEST!"

  • "We had a little problem with eggs. My companion asked for whites to be firm with yolks not overcooked. This simple request seemed to strike our waiter as technically difficult to accomplish and we had to return the dish and order eggs Benedict. Fortunately the kitchen was up to the task but the interaction did dull our experience a little. The floor manager did get involved and was more courteous so all ended well. My Shakshouka was excellent so no complaints there. Issues related more to communication and attitude than performance."

  • "A hot bar scene swarming with 20-somethings and 30-somethings greeted us on a recent Friday night when we arrived for dinner. Our reservation was honored and we were seated promptly. There were lots of interesting food choices on the menu and the wine list was more extensive than I expected at this Mediterranean-themed restaurant, including half bottles. It turned out to be a very pleasant experience."

  • "Time and time again, Barbounia never disappoints! The grilled octopus is our favorite as is the barrata. The oysters are always fresh and delicious as is all their fish dishes. Simply our favorite neighborhood restaurant!!!"

  • "The meal was absolutely delicious. The decor is interesting and fun. And the hummus is the best hummus I've ever had (and I've had a lot of hummus). Moreover the servers and waitstaff were very attentive, especially with the bottomless mimosas! I would highly recommend Barbounia for brunch, but make a reservation. The place gets packed."

  • "Went with my sister for an impromptu lunch, and it was great. Vibe was upbeat, and the decor was not overly in you face. Food was good, had the lamb kebab sandwich with fries."

  • "We came here for dinner on a Friday night and sat on a table by the kitchen which was a nice experience. Food overall was great. We loved the bread and the appetizers. The Pizza was thin crust and average at best. I would've tried more of the appetizers and perhaps some of the lamb entrees. We will definitely return!"

  • "With a defening noise level, servers who were nowhere to be found, and an inexplicably long wait to get a table (we were "lucky" enough to have reservations and still had to wait), this establishment has more of a chuck e. cheese meets NASCAR feel than anything else. Conversation was nearly impossible without shouting, which also means your neighbors can hear all the details as well (VERY intersting story going on at the table a few down from us). The absolute cherry-on-top for this dining debacle was the Happy Birthday song which played at 2,000 decibels every 10 minutes or so. I've been in quieter concerts and gotten better service at fast food establishments. Will NEVER return and will disuade othes from doing so as well."

  • "Went for brunch with friends. Their unlimited mimosa option is excellent - you can keep drinking until 4PM regardless of what time you have brunch. Unfortunately, that means that the bar area gets to be pretty crowded and getting refills is a bit of a task. Also seemed a like a popular place for people to have their birthday brunch. Definitely returning in the future!"

  • "Really enjoyed the Shakshouka selection! Wonderful brunch, even though a tad pricey. The support the restaurant gets from the large bar allows for many good consumption options :)"

  • "Had a reservation for 2:30 brunch on a Sunday, didnt get seated until at least 2:50. Ordered app, food and unlimited brunch drinks but had to reminder the waiter after at least 20 mins of not getting any drinks that we had ordered - our app even came out before our drinks. Their unlimited it more like whenever they feel like filling you up. Food was fantastic though... too bad about the drinks or we'd be back"

  • "I've been Barbounia a few times before and always had a nice time. This time for brunch, it felt like the restaurant was just pumping out a 'boozy brunch' with no care to how people enjoyed it. The unlimited mimosas were warm, watered down, and came from jugs that waiters were re-filling with other warm ones. The food was bland, and the hostess was rude. Even with a reservation, we got seated at a table that was so close to the kitchen, we were sweating from the heat. I likely won't return and definitely will not be recommending Barbounia again."

  • "i had made a reservation for 2:30 brunch for 9 girls (celebrating a birthday) we didn't sit until 3:30 after we had begged the hosts to seat us anywhere, some girls had not eaten yet that day. they seemed like they didn't really care, once we finally sat, we let the server know how hungry we were... we order apps to be brought out right away. They came out AFTER our entrees were delivered. The food was really great, I love the restaurant but the service was so poor. They have a champagne drink special that normally keeps ppl at their tables longer than usual but this is where the hosts should step in and ask them to move to the bar if they're just drinking. They comped the apps and brought us some gross shots, coulda did more ..."
