Barbetta RestaurantRiding on reputationThis restaurant is a centenarian icon of NYC fine dining. Unfortunately, it's best days are behind it and it is coasting on its reputation. The appetizer was served late and lukewarm. The salad course was totally forgotten. The sea bass however, was impeccably cooked.

The Food was excellent and the service outstanding. This is the place to be during the spring and summer. Our table enjoyed wonderful pasta and entrees that were ordered included rabbit, swordfish and scallops. Desserts were extraordinary. Excellent wines were enjoyed by all. Put Barbetta on your list when you are not going to a show and enjoy. Whenever possible I choose it when I want to spend a long time talking over dinner: I've NEVER felt rushed and the decible level lends itself to conversation. For out-of-towners (as I was with the other night) you can also add a dropped jaw factor - it is so "insider" New York. I've been going there for years and never been disappointed. Service was impeccable - waiter was very attentive - water and wine refilled as needed - and offered an excellent suggestion for my date who is a vegetarian. I had the swordfish and being from N.E. am very particular about my seafood and this was superb.

HaveLove this restaurant. Have been there on several occasions and have enjoyed both the indoor ambiance and outdoor romantic garden patio. Food has been consitently good and portions are generous but not overwhelming. The waitstaff has alway been "old school impeccable" and enhance your dining experience. With so many cool/trendy dining choices in NY, it's nice to feel like you've stepped back in time at this 100+ year old restaurant. Maitre'd was personable and made recommendations based on what was fresh that day. We were treated to small tasting appetizers which made our lunch complete. The wait staff was very experienced, they were very attentive but stayed in the background so they were not in the way. The menu was extensive and many great choices. Dinners were perfectly cooked and presented.

On the website photo's it looked
good, but on arrival turned out to be very formal. Without making us feel uncomfortable about our casual attire -we merely wanted dinner and were not going to the theatre after - the service was really good, wine excellent and good food recommendations
were given. The food itself was excellent and overall it was a wonderful experience.
I will not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone.
The background pianist made it extra special.
