  • "Food was nothing special - pretty bland. Atmosphere was quiet for a Thursday night - half empty. Washrooms were disgusting I was told by a female guest. For the price they charge you're better off going elsewhere for an Italian meal"

  • "Server took the liberty of adding a 18% gratuity. The menu states that parties containing +8 people will have an automatic gratuity (no mention of %).The food was good, but service sub-par. It wasn't busy AT ALL (~6 tables) & yet (sitting near the open kitchen) we watched each course of our meal sit on the counter for 5-10 mins before our waiter would decide to serve us. Clearing of dishes was slow as well. No idea how she made the assumption about us, we weren't poorly dressed or uncivil in anyway. I'd hate to have to assume that it was because we are Chinese. Bottom line: food: good, nothing special, service: I've been a waiter& understand the importance of tips, but definitely don't think she deserved $25 for that 1.5hr. Won't be back."

  • "We decided to check out Bar Italia for a Summerlicious lunch at the last minute. We got a lovely outdoor table, service was good. Food was good - nothing exceptional but good for the price. Italian sangria also great. Overall, cheap and cheerful lunch for people watching in Little Italy!"

  • "We had not been to Bar Italia for a while and decided to try. Booked through Open Table, but the reservation was not in place when we arrived. Table was OK, but in a very busy spot and there was a lot of activity around me. I got bumped by both patrons and staff. Putting that aside, the food was great, our hostess attentive but not overbearing. Left happy, but we felt a bit rushed."

  • "The wine list was good, albeit on the expensive side. $17 for a glass of amarone, I know nicer places that have it listed for $15. The anti pasti was so-so. Mushroom salad was delicious. The veal scalloppini was super salty, with the gnocci on the dish being the best part. The server didn't do a quality check on the scalloppini so we couldn't complain. Also the server kept pushing inappropriate, long-winded conversations on us at inopportune times. We really just wanted to catch up as we hadn't seen each other in a while. Service matters when you look at the whole experience..."

  • "First time at Bar Italia, and not disapointed. Brusceta and Calamaria were wonderfully appetizers, with maindishs of seafood resotto and steak and mashed potatoes very tastey. Toped off with a Teramaso desert, the whole meal was wonderfull and well priced. Service very attentive and pleasant.........Would recommend."

  • "Bar Italia never loses its cool. Other restaurants come and go, but you can always count on Bar Italia to serve up yummy food in a room with great buzz. We have not been here in a while, but coming back reminded us to become regulars again. The food was delicious ( fish, pasta and beef tenderloin), and the arugula mushroom salad is always a must. The strawberry gelato was soooooo good. Another bonus is that even with 2 bottles of wine, our bill is still reasonable! Looking forward to coming back soon."

  • "Great food. Great wine. Great service. The staff was very warm and friendly. Prices were very reasonable. If I could suggest one thing, that would be to install coat hook systems at the booths. I think this place really hits the sweet spot between price, ambiance and quality. Sometimes, you go to a restaurant that is 3/4 in price but you get 2/4 in taste/service. This place is 2/4 in price and 4/4 in taste/service so you're really getting bang for your buck."

  • "Went with my girl friend for valentines day. They had a very nice $48 dollar flat price for a three course meal, having gone for a little later dinner we both decided to opt for pasta off the normal menu and split and app. Very reasonable pricing, two people fed and a bottle of wine with tip all for about $120. certainly recomend for a normal night out or special occasion all the same"

  • "Food was excellent! Service wasn't great. We kept getting another tables food. We caught it on the apps, but the entrees were the same and we started to eat. We assumed it was our meal as it was brought to us, and we figured they would have fixed whatever problem they had with the apps. Then we felt awful, the server didn't make us feel any better, for starting to eat someone else's meal. We were sort of treated as if it was our fault, no one apologized to us for bringing the wrong meal. Clearly the communication isn't the best between servers and food runners... we blamed this on the fact that it was Valentine's day and they were busy and overwhelmed. Won't be back often as it is pricey, but the menu selection and food quality is fabulous!"

  • "Great winterlicious menu. Regular menu great as well - excellent food for the money."

  • "This was my first time at Bar Italia. I went on a Friday night with a friend for Winterlicious. We got a deal due to the event but the regular pricing would still be worth it. I'll definitely be going back. The staff were very friendly and funny. The food was very flavourful — my mouth is watering just thinking about it. I highly recommend this place – for dates, for friends, or whoever – if you're looking for some great food and a comfortable atmosphere."

  • "Bar Italia is a place that's lots of fun and I would say geared to a youthful age group (rather than our age - hovering at the Seniors level). Reason? The noise level has usually been very, very loud. But the food is very good...I had the grilled salmon on polenta and my husband the rigatoni a la vodka...both really good. For dessert he had a very dense chocolate dessert...good but really dense! Service is excellent - try and get George the server if you can...he is very funny, energetic, efficient and will tell you when to order if a crowd is expected (because the kitchen will be much slower). We may not go back so quickly...on a Saturday that is, because it is too noisy although it might be good for a mid-week break."

  • "Stopped in for an early dinner on a weeknight, the place was initially empty but a steady trickle of diners came in while we ate. My dish was excellent- pasta with Italian sausage, made gluten-free to boot. The carpaccio appetizer was very tasty although the meat was maybe sliced a bit too thin- it tended to disintegrate when served. The server was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the wine list, and even offered tastings of several selections. The house-made grappa went down smoothly and kicked me in the pants. The vibe is 60's retro, with Sinatra on the "radio"- I loved it, my tablemates were more or less indifferent. Overall enjoyed it very much and plan to return on my next visit to Toronto."

  • "It was a Sunday, we were a group of 8 and the restaurant was quiet when we arrived at 7:30pm, picking up gradually over the next 90 minutes. George was our server, flamboyant and attentive with good suggestions regarding drinks and choices of food. Food was very good, featuring home made pastas and delicious sauces. We enjoyed ourselves and left full and satisfied."

  • "Went there for a pretty good plate of pasta with the gf. Our waiter tried really hard, which is a good thing. He was able to provide a great dinning experience. Afterwards, we headed up stairs to check out a local band we like called Shuga. As always they put on a good show. I recommend this place on a Friday for dinner and some live music."

  • "My wife and I went for New Years Eve Dinner, I have to say excellent New Year's menu the restaurant packed full, excellent ambience, delicious food and great service."

  • "Some of us arrived an hour earlier than our reservation and the staff was very pleasant and happy to seat us and get us started with some appetizers. We had a beautiful raised marble table for ten. The food was good, particularly the scallops starter. I had the Alberta Striploin; all flavours were on point, just wish my food was warmer. I wish the server had come around to refill our drinks without us having to ask. The tiramisu was great. Overall, the food and ambiance were good."

  • "We enjoyed a lovely family gathering here and had good service and good food but the entrance was uninviting and we had to walk in quite a ways to encounter the lovely oval table set for our group. The food and service were quite good but my overall impression was 'not impressed' by the atmosphere. Let's face it… looks count."

  • "the food isn't what it used to be when I last frequented this popular night spot. A little too salty and overdressed. Too bad as the atmosphere is good and the service decent."
    Dined on 12/9/2013
  • "The food was great. Our service got off to a great start, but as the restaurant got busy our waiter became less attentive and it took almost 15 minutes to get a coffee and another 15 minutes to get the bill. The slack was picked up by the manager which helped improve the service at the end of the experience as it was starting to lag."
    Dined on 12/7/2013
  • "The service was very attentive. Menu choices were varied and reasonably priced. Would recommend the Primi- Calamari ($11) and the Pasta- Gnocchi Gorgonzola ($15) and the Secondi- Vitello Ai Funghi ($22.) The food was delicious...as good as eating in Italy! The wine ($35 and up) was expensive in comparison to the entree prices. Overall a great neighbourhood spot with a homey atmosphere."

  • "From the moment I entered the restaurant, Staff met me and showed me to our table. I brought a cake for the birthday celebration and they quickly placed it in the fridge. The table was perfect for our group. It was a square table right at the front of the restaurant. We could see one another and talk easily. We had a great time. Thank you Bar Italia. Our server was fun and in-tune with our needs."

  • "This still remains one of the great places to eat on a street with multiple choices for dining and bar scenes - Little Italy, Toronto. It was a quiet lunchtime - but it perfect for a friend and I to spend two hours catching up over a two lunch. We both had the excellent Insalata di Salmone - a substantial portion of lightly grilled fish on a sea of greens. Excellent! Our waiter was attentive but not intrusive. Would go back anytime."

  • "My girlfriend and I went here simply because it was close but found that it was much better than expected! As soon as we arrived we were greeted by very friendly staff that escorted us to our reserved table. They made our food fast and delicious, everything was perfect! They are efficient to help you get what you want but never rush you, skill that other restaurants just do not posses. I have already recommended this place to our other friends, whom will be telling you the same thing I am shortly! The only warning I would give is that they don't take debit, so take other payment (and even if you forget their is an ATM a few doors down)."

  • "The service was great but the food just wasn't up to what I was expecting from an Italian restaurant in Little Italy. It was just ok. By the end of our meal there were several big groups and it was getting really loud. It started to feel like a cafeteria rather than a restaurant."

  • "Overall we enjoyed our experience at Bar Italia. Went for mother's day brunch. Staff were friendly and food was good. Two small concerns. We always had to ask for more coffee. (most places offer refills frequently). My son ordered soup first then his main course. His soup came when the rest of us got our main course. His main course was only delivered to the table when we asked for it (which was several minutes after he finished his soup). If you have not been to this restaurant on College (like us) it is difficult to locate as it is small and the sign is not out in the open enough."

  • "A group of us went to Bar Italia for Mother's Day lunch and the food was good and the service was excellent. We were surprised that there wasn't any pasta on the menu at lunch but everyone was happy with their choices. There were lots of kids, which was refreshing since we had one with us too - but this could be because it was Mother's Day. It was all of our first times there and I would recommend going back, especially with a group or if you have children and want to go somewhere that offers a good meal and great service."

  • "I was seated and waiting for my party who was running late. Ten minutes passed and my server did not approach. I had to ask a passing hostess to send him over. He was not attentive due to the fact that a large party of 20 was keeping him busy. The food is delicious. Well worth the money. And even though you may not ever hear your party. It's quite loud in there! Comparable to Jump."
