Diner Reviews
  • "Still one of my favorite restaurants in NY. The pâté are great and the wines are always phenomenal. I only wish they served my $100 bottle Bordeaux in a more proper glass."

  • "I haven't been @ Bar Boulud in some time because of a previous poor experience and now I've had another one. Ordered 2 main dishes to share among two people. Crab salad was small but more importantly, TASTELESS. The Croque Madame was split in the kitchen but with only one egg on top. For the prices they charge and the wholesale cost of eggs, we were surprised. However, the one good thing about our lunch was the excellent service by a manager looking out for us. He quickly rectified the situation. I am frequently in the Lincoln Center area. I will go back to Boulud Sud but not Bar Boulud."

  • "Daniel Boulud is a great restaurateur and never fails. This is a terrific restaurant located in the Lincoln Center area. A gem."

  • "Wonderful location, attentive service, and interesting twists on old favorites"

  • "Restaurant Week was the reason why we visited Bar Boulud. The menu for the Restaurant Week offer was not exciting. I am not sure it was the right sample of what the restaurant can offer. It was nicely cooked, flavorful, but not exciting. It did not awaken on me the willingness of repeating."

  • "Restaurant Week food was excellent and delicious. Aesthetically pleasing architecture. Attention to detail is obvious. Even the tip suggestions on the bill are properly not inflated (some other restaurants show tips on the meal inclusive of tax)."

  • "From the first moment that I ate at this restaurant to the last, I have not been disappointed. The food is exceptional, innovative ; the wine choices superb and the dessert (restaurant week prix fix menu- combination of chocolate and passion fruit mousse-magnifique!)"

  • "Excellent pates. Amazingly creative soups. Fabulous wine list"

  • "A top-notch restaurant. We took advantage of the Restaurant Week special dinner. Although the menu was limited, our party of four ordered different dishes and all selections were superb. The food is outstanding and the service is as well. We will definitely return."

  • "I had been here many times in the past and this time I hope was not a new trend. Everything sort of went wrong. I am hoping it is not a new norm."

  • "We were 4 people for lunch; two of us did not enjoy our choice, the other two had hamburger and fish and were very happy with their food. So I guess it’s hit or miss. The waiter and his assistant tried hard but were unexperienced. I wish we went elsewhere for lunch."

  • "mostly cause we ate in restaurant week and apart from a great desert - the rest was not anything I'd order again. Kinda a shame cause - friendly helpful staff, pleasant surroundings - overall disappointed that my food choices didn't thrill me - our first time eating here."

  • "Excellent restaurant for a lunch before a performance at Lincoln Center. The food is always excellent. It's like getting a little taste of Daniel at a lower price point."

  • "Wonderful selections for Restaurant Week menu. Good breads, delicious fish, nice desserts. Salad OK."

  • "The food remain simple and is well executed. Chef Tyler's desserts are outstanding."

  • "I went for Restaurant Week and I wasn't blown away, but I know Boulud does great things and I've enjoyed his other restos so far. I think I'd go back and try the "Frenchie Burger" or the Croque Monsieur. I found the retaurant week menu to be limited and the dishes that I got were pretty good, but I think I'd rather splurge a little and have something great."

  • "We drive into the city fairly regularly to have dinner. I eat rather frequently at Boulud Sud and DBGB and love both restaurants. Unfortunately Bar Boulud is nothing special. This was my second time there and quite frankly I maintain the same opinion I formulated after my first meal there - acceptable but nothing special and no reason to return. Stick with Boulud Sud - memorable food, nice room, impeccable service."

  • "This is a very expensive restaurant where the focus should be on the food and civilized conversation. We asked for and got a table @ the back supposedly a quiet table. We asked twice for the music to be lowered and it was but it didn't do much good. The food is good but overpriced and the portons small."

  • "Bar Boulud was wonderful, as always. I went to the Bolshoi with my granddaughter, she's 15, and we went there beforehand. She also loved it. She's an adventurous diner! I love the place for the service, the amazing food, the attention to detail. It's a bit more casual than Daniel Boulud's other restaurants, which is another thing I love about it. Easygoing and informal, with excellent food. What more could one possibly want?"

  • "For the prices they charge I at least expected the food to be great, but it was rather regular. I love terrines usually and that’s why I wanted to go there, but their terrines were not really tasty, and the main chicken dish was mediocre. Ambiance and décor was nothing special, either."

  • "Food good, though I think a tad over priced, wait staff very pleasant, would go back again. Great location across the street from Lincoln Center. We were not rushed, leisurely brunch nice for a change. Sat inside, no seats outside for a noon reservation, ok though."

  • "The food seems to be measured out on a jewelers scale , a touch of thus, a dollop of that , a taste of pickle, a dot of something else. No wonder Smith is filled and bar boulud is not"

  • "The food was well prepared, but consistent with the "bistro" atmosphere of the restaurant. However, I ordered a selection of their ice creams for dessert and was disappointed. The ice cream seemed to be of a low butterfat content and definitely needed more assertive flavoring. The chocolate did not taste like it was made with a good chocolate; it was only brown. The pistachio suffered from the same lack of definitive flavor. We make our own ice cream at home and it is of much better quality - higher butterfat, more distinctive flavoring; and NO ice crystals. A restaurant of this repute should put more focus on their desserts."

  • "I am tptally mystified why Bar Boulid closes its kitchen at 11 pm when it is across the street from Lincoln Center and many perfornces do not until 10:45, thereby missing lots of potential busiiness."

  • "Very fashionable and great location. Try squid ink pasta, that was so delicious."

  • "On a nice day, wonderful place to dine outside and watch the parade going by. Nice wine, good food, prix fixe menu excellent. Better than inside (no tablecloths - formica turns me off.) The hangar steak rare was delicious and the scallops delectable. Service became neglectful as more guests arrived and had to flag down someone to bring water, bread, etc., but we will still return."

  • "Bar Boulud was the perfect choice after seeing a play at Lincoln Center's Vivian Beaumont Theatre. The two of us ordered three pates and all four of the hors d'oeuvres varies which we shared. All the selections were first rate as was the bread and butter. We took our waiter's suggestion of the wine and it was a great choice."

  • "Great wine selection particularly the "pannier" that they have nightly of specialty often vintage wines."

  • "The two meals that I had at Bar Boulud are two of the best meals I have ever had."

  • "I shared an intimate conversation with my husband and a fine bottle of Syrah, but those were the only memorable notes from my experience at Bar Boulud. Since I was celebrating my 40th birthday, I wanted to splurge on a nice bottle of wine, but the sommeliere was AWOL and it didn't occur to the waitstaff to take our dinner order. Twenty minutes later the sommeliere appeared, and while he was clearly knowledgeable, I could tell he felt harried. We ordered from the Prixe Fixe menu. My husband's corn soup was divine, but the rest of our dishes (chicken liver pate, steak roti, and an apricot cake and chocolate mousse were average fare -- neither rich nor particularly flavorful."

  • "This Boulud location is another great example of the group's style. Their habit of opening a magnum of special and aged wine to be enjoyed by the glass is a great idea and gives the place a uniqueness. Food is French themed, nicely presented and delicious. serving staff are helpful and knowledgeable. the wine list is great and covers all possible tastes and budgets."

  • "This restaurant serves outstanding food, the waitstaff is friendly and helpful and it is beautifully decorated. Even when it is busy, it's still quiet enough to have a relaxed conversation. I recently took my nephew there for his birthday. We shared a salad and then he ordered the chicken breast and thought that it was cooked to perfection. I agreed. My meal, cod poached in olive oil, was delicious and so was dessert (the sundae for two) and the white peony tea. Bar Boulud is a bit more expensive than average restaurants that serve good but average food. This is a cut above those and it is my go to restaurant when I want to share a meal with special people in my life."

  • "Small portions; somewhat disappointing selection. Dessert were good but pricey."

  • "great food overall. The salade Lyonnaise, Steak tartare, and lamd duo were all excellent. Was not too thrilled with the Ile Flottante wich had too many exotic flavor underpinnings (ginger? apricot?). Prefer my ile flottante with the meringue and simple sabayon and maybe spun sugar?"

  • "If you ask for a booth in the back there's no need to worry about the noise level that's apparent in the front. One of the reasons is that the tables are closer together in the front--crowded is a good description; and the booths offer more privacy. It's fun to peruse the excellent wine list and the charcuterie is superb. The best Croques Monsieur and Croques Madame in Manhattan are served at lunch. There is outdoor seating if one cares for people peering into one's plates."

  • "We enjoy returning to this neat, quiet, clean super food--mostly, sometimes. The corn soup and Mussels were superb. The peeky-toe crab salad was disappointing this time: bland, and the hanger steak was merely OK, with a non-nondescript taste-less vegetable under the steak. The restaurant is superbly located for Lincoln Center and is a pleasant alternative to the other restaurants nearby, which are usually more crowded and noisy."

  • "I would highly recommend Bar Boulud, all of the meals we had were excellent, the service was pleasant and the atmosphere was lively without being noisy. My only criticism would be the cost of all the wines on the wine list. There was nothing for less than $60 and the "special" wine they were selling was $25 per glass."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed Bar Boulud. Eating outdoors was delightful. The food was good and the entire staff courteous and helpful. No one rushed us. We had the prix fixe brunch but would order a la carte next time because the selection is much more extensive. foodlover1"
