Diner Reviews
  • "Great charcuterie and bread. If two people ordered that it's a perfect meal. My skate was juicy and full of flavor. We sat outside and even enjoyed the guitarist who Played a lot of Spanish music. The world walked by as we enjoyed black olive gnocchi, chicken in wine, Beef tartare, Hungarian ham and split desserts. A perfect dinner. Good service, a little hectic but still pleasant."

  • "One of my favorite spots. Weekend lunch Prixe Fixe is the best here! So much delicious food (in perfect portions). Everything tastes so fresh and artfully made. The service is extremely attentive but not overwhelming. I've been here several times before and I'll be back soon!"

  • "Our dinner at Bart Boulud was one of the finest dining experiences in recent memory. The food was wonderful, the staff unerringly helpful, the setting lovely. It was a wonderful way to spend several hours — Bar Boulud is definitely a place to linger and enjoy food and company in equal measure."

  • "Lunch, tables set apart so we could talk without hearing other conversations, service Very pleasant Food very good It was a lovely pre-theater experience. I will do it again."

  • "Food quite good. Service slow. Much too noisy. Wanted earlier reservation but could not get it but then found plenty of tables when we arrived."

  • "We've been to Bar Boulud several times and always enjoy the food, which is wonderful. However, on this particular visit the service was awful."

  • "Daniel worked hard at getting his lost * back and his efforts have paid off! Compared to some of the diners I had the Summer of 2013 when he lost his *, the food was really amazing this time! Hopefully it stays this way!"

  • "We had a very nice meal but were surprised by how expensive it was since we didn't order a bottle of wine and not all of us had appetizers."

  • "Made the res on OpenTable. Got there on time, and was offered the worst possible table - in front of the check-in desk, next to the door and main hallway. We asked about sitting in a booth - there were several that were open the entire time we were there, but were told that was all they could offer us. Sat at bar in uncomfortable chairs, twisted around so we could talk. The waiter was fine, but servers kept coming to us with food that wasn't ours. After we got entrees, someone came up and starting giving us coffee with all the creamer and sugar stuff. Weird. We ordered an expensive bottle of wine, but had to keep asking for refills - no one paid attention. This is a Boulud restaurant. The service should be WAY better."

  • "I arrived for lunch at 11:30 and doors were not opened until 11:40. There were people already in the restaurant. There were others waiting outside as well. I had a show to attend and I had made that clear on my reservation, so this did not make for a relaxing lunch. I then sat for another 20 minutes before being asked if I wanted anything to drink. If they do not plan on being ready to open at 11:30 then perhaps they should not do so. This was my first time there so allowing for a bad day. I had Steak Frites. It was good but a tad on the salty side. I have been to other Boulud restaurants and have always had great service so would once more."

  • "Extensive brunch menu. Superb bread basket. Excellent pâtés, multiple kinds. Perfectly cooked eggs with interesting preparations ."

  • "The food was good. We had the duck. And the wine was also good. In terms of service, the 'host' seemed pre-occupied as we felt it was a chore for her to serve us. From the outset, we would have liked the opportunity of selecting a table, but we were whisked away. The men clearing the table or providing the glasses were great. They were efficient, polite and cordial."

  • "Across from Lincoln Center. Went early and had no problem making an early curtain. They have a price fixe pre theater menu that offers a small but comprehensive (meat, fish, vegan) choice. Menu items are creative and well presented, although my duck entre was a bit dry."

  • "This is an excellent choice for after the theater. It is a short cab ride from the theater district and the menu is great for late night. Our meal was excellent."

  • "We have been here just a couple of times and always say we have to come back soon. Never soon enough as this meal was excellent. Great mussels, split pea soup, saucisson, and lotte. Really good."

  • "The Bar Boulud has good food and ambience, but not as spetacular as its name suggests. We celebrated my birthday there and i choose Boulud because i thought it would be great. The food was good but nothing that lives up the reputtation. I could eat the same dish paying at least 20% less at another restaurant. I choose a steak which came through greasy. My highlight is on the service, always very helpful. I received a small plate of sweeties with a nice message of Happy Birthday. Summing up, my opinion is the food is not so good than i thought."

  • "Food is fresh and delicious, bread is as good as Paris, portions are sensible, presentation attractive. One of our favorite restaurants around Lincoln Center. Reservations essential."

  • "Always happy to find a table at Bar Boulud, love the atmosphere and the food. Enjoyed the duck confit which was outrageously delicious, in addition to the pate de campagne with perfect cornichons and moutarde - only complaint is I would like more moutarde! One of my favorite places for dinner."

  • "We celebrated my 40th birthday last Friday. The restaurant was wonderful at accommodating my growing reservation leading up to the night. We were seated quickly, and served drinks promptly. And then we waited. Appetizers were hit and miss. The steak tartare was the favorite at the table. Dinner was also hit and miss. The mussels were delicious as were the fries. That was pretty much it. Others ordered Steak frites (chewy, bland cut of beef, and overpriced), burger (bland and over cooked), and salmon ("not the best I ever had"). Desserts were equally hit and miss. The ice creams were a hit. Nothing else. It was difficult to find anyone to fill waters or refresh drinks once the meal was served."

  • "On this, our second visit to Bar Boulud, we were again disappointed in the food. The asparagus appetizer, new that day, was good but the elements did not quite meld. My pate grandmere, which I ordered in lieu of an entrée, was very good, but would have been too much and too rich for an appetizer. My husband's pasta was too salty, about half as good as the pasta I'd had the day before at Maialino. Too salty was our complaint about a burgundy beef we had on the previous visit. I understand the pressures of pre-theater, but the food tastes like it's been cooking down for way too long. A major complaint is the wine list, which is selective and pricey out of all proportion to the quality of the food."

  • "After eating here many times before concerts and opera, we we surprised at the lowered quality of the food. We need this restaurant to remain a fine place to eat."

  • "This is one of our favorite pre-Lincoln center dinner stops. The variety and high quality of everything is a major attraction. On this visit, the standout was the duck breast, which was close to perfection in presentation and flavor. Wines are fairly pricey, but one can find affordable choices which do not disappoint. The sommelier was as usual very helpful in wine and food pairings, and treated us very well, even though we were clearly not high rollers. A light burgundy complemented the duck, as well as the fish and chips (!) that my wife had."

  • "From the polite, attentive service to the incredible food, it was an eating experience! We all loved it all."
    Dined on 3/16/2014
  • "The food is made fussy by adding things that don't enhance the flavor. Pre fixe fish entree was dry. Pea soup lacked flavor. This restaurant is located in Lincoln center and can capitalize on the crowds. But you end up paying for mediocre food."

  • "We were there for brunch before the Saturday matinee at the Met Opera. Food was excellent. Prices are what we expected for this type of restaurant. Services were great throughout the meal except until the dessert course which was taken much longer to come out Once we notified the server that we were running short on time, he then went to get the desserts himself. Perhaps, the food runner was a point of failure here. This was despite the fact that our server asked us when we seated if we had a show to go to and we told him yes. It was not a complete failure but we had a higher expectation that they didn't meet."

  • "Don't miss the scallops with the sweet potato gnocchi, or the "from nose to tail" menu when they offer it, or the chocolate tart. What the heck, try one of everything. It is worth it. And they hat a crisp and full bodied Chablis to go with the scallops. It was heaven for the soul and the taste buds."

  • "Very nice place to dine pre-opera. We have been dining there for years."

  • "the charcuterie is marvelous, esp the pates mere and pere. but my boudin black and white was somehow a sloppy dish, sausages thrown on the plate over gobs of mashed potatoes. none of it bad, in fact the boudin blanc was pretty good, but it wasn't well thought out--no contrast of flavor or texture to it. vs. the pork ravioli off the "nose to tail" menu, which though hearty was mysteriously but pleasantly refreshing. excellent, expert service. so stick with the charcuterie and pair it with the terrific wine list, the "discoveries" relatively inexpensive and very strong: you can easily get a great bottle for under $80. they were also offering a couple high end Burgundies at cost by the glass but we didn't go for that."

  • "First time at this restaurant but I'll definitely be coming back. The overall ambiance was fantastic. Staff was very nice and friendly, genuinely friendly. If you want a spot with an extensive wine list and bar, this is the place to go. Got to try a lot but and will continue down the list the next time I'm back. The food was fantastic. I'm no expert on french cuisine. All I know is good food is good food, regardless the style. You have to get the Grande Charcuterie, I could snack on that all day everyday. My fiance and I got two different entrees and shared. Duck breast and ravioli were amazing. There was a lot of good choices on the menu but we went with what the waitress recommended and she was on point. I can't wait till I go back again."

  • "If I hadn't known better, I would have thought I was in a diner. Not a good diner. Nasty salad of overdressed bruised and broken Boston lettuce. Cold and greasy fish and chips that clearly had not been cooked to order. I recommend it only because I have enjoyed it other times."

  • "i had not been to this restaurant for over a year. I think it is even better than the last time. The menu truly reflects the heritage of the owner Daniel and his chef and I loved my Boudin plate and my Ile Flottante."

  • "We ordered the wine feature and were first surprised by the pour size (small) and then by the price (which we had not asked) when we got the check. $25 per pour was a bit pricey for the amount served. The burger was an interesting combination of beef, short rib and bacon. The bacon was exceptionally fatty and was not eaten. Our waiter was moderately attentive; the sommelier same; the food servers and bus staff were right on."
