Diner Reviews

  • "This Boulud location is another great example of the group's style. Their habit of opening a magnum of special and aged wine to be enjoyed by the glass is a great idea and gives the place a uniqueness. Food is French themed, nicely presented and delicious. serving staff are helpful and knowledgeable. the wine list is great and covers all possible tastes and budgets."

  • "If you ask for a booth in the back there's no need to worry about the noise level that's apparent in the front. One of the reasons is that the tables are closer together in the front--crowded is a good description; and the booths offer more privacy. It's fun to peruse the excellent wine list and the charcuterie is superb. The best Croques Monsieur and Croques Madame in Manhattan are served at lunch. There is outdoor seating if one cares for people peering into one's plates."

  • "This restaurant serves outstanding food, the waitstaff is friendly and helpful and it is beautifully decorated. Even when it is busy, it's still quiet enough to have a relaxed conversation. I recently took my nephew there for his birthday. We shared a salad and then he ordered the chicken breast and thought that it was cooked to perfection. I agreed. My meal, cod poached in olive oil, was delicious and so was dessert (the sundae for two) and the white peony tea. Bar Boulud is a bit more expensive than average restaurants that serve good but average food. This is a cut above those and it is my go to restaurant when I want to share a meal with special people in my life."

  • "Small portions; somewhat disappointing selection. Dessert were good but pricey."

  • "We enjoy returning to this neat, quiet, clean super food--mostly, sometimes. The corn soup and Mussels were superb. The peeky-toe crab salad was disappointing this time: bland, and the hanger steak was merely OK, with a non-nondescript taste-less vegetable under the steak. The restaurant is superbly located for Lincoln Center and is a pleasant alternative to the other restaurants nearby, which are usually more crowded and noisy."

  • "I would highly recommend Bar Boulud, all of the meals we had were excellent, the service was pleasant and the atmosphere was lively without being noisy. My only criticism would be the cost of all the wines on the wine list. There was nothing for less than $60 and the "special" wine they were selling was $25 per glass."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed Bar Boulud. Eating outdoors was delightful. The food was good and the entire staff courteous and helpful. No one rushed us. We had the prix fixe brunch but would order a la carte next time because the selection is much more extensive. foodlover1"

  • "Had great food here. Flights of wine a lovely treat when you are headed across the street and don't want to do a bottle. The $45 prix fixe a lovely plus."

  • "Bar Boulud is always a treat. Food and service maintain the high standard. Reservations are honored and staff gets you out in time for any performance across the street. Don't change."

  • "The charcuterie was amazing, both in quality and variety. The service was impeccable -- attentive without being intrusive. Bar Boulud is a real gem."

  • "had dinner here after performance at Lincoln Center service was very professional and food was excellent with a nice menu for dinner including some light fare"

  • "the prix fixe lunches and dinners are fabulous and a la carte dishes are equally special. My goto place before any Lincoln Center performance. Service is attentive and very pleasant."

  • "Good brasserie food but overrides especially the wine list. I like the place very much but prices should be lowered"

  • "is the only reason to go; it is perfect for Lincoln Center; Food wise, the side of spinach and the breads were excellent; the main courses (both of us had fish) were nothing to write home about but we both finished them; we did not have desserts or appetizers; restaurant was less than half-full when we were there so I am somewhat guessing on noise based on reflective decor"

  • "took advantage of the $29 prix fixe which is good value for quality food...had to send the salmon back for further cooking but it came back perfect...and fresh green summer veggies were beautifully prepared and not overdone...sorbets were delicious. we ate on the terrasse and it was delightful"

  • "We dined on 6-26-14 however as others have noted on 6-24 and 6-27-2014, I cannot recommend. The food as usual was very good, however the Ist waiter we had was very arrogant, virtually non existent , thankfully. The 2nd waiter tried hurriedly and was OK, but always rushed. We live across the country and did eat there 2 years ago and had a wonderful experience. We probably won't eat there on our next trip to NY."

  • "Nice menu, delicious food, very attentive service. Very pretty restaurant and always reliably delicious"

  • "A lousy arrogant waiter ruined what should have been a great dinner. We are repeat customers and many times bring guests when looking for a special dinner. Food was good as always - especially the treatment of vegetables. However, we had to wave down bus boys to get water; a table of 5 people was served the 2 people bread basket, with 4 pieces; the waiter made stupid "French" comments as we ordered; and at the end of the meal he refreshed our water with a flourish pouring it from 3 feet above splashing the table. He was a jerk. We decided on going elsewhere for coffee and dessert. FYI - the people at the next table were treated no better by this jerk. Bar Boulud needs to insure that its waiter behavior is on par with the food."

  • "Wanted a pleasant lunch spot near Lincoln center and this hit the spot. Short wait for an outside table on a sunny summer day we had requested. Tables were close together. Pre Fixed lunch was tasty and sufficient. Staff was cordial and accommodating. Fun people watching."

  • "Delicious food, great wine list and attentive service across the street from Lincoln Center...it doesn't get any better."

  • "Honestly I was disappointed by the whole evening. The service was not good and the food I found overpriced for what it was. I was ready to have "Boulud" quality food and attention. That is not what happened. I would only recommend the french fries which doesn't say much since our party of 5 had appetizers and full entrees and two bottles of wine - one of which had a strange musty smell. We live in the Lincoln Center area but I will not be returning and will not recommend this restaurant to my friends."

  • "Needed a place near Lincoln Center for a business dinner. Food was good but the noise level made it difficult to conduct a meeting."

  • "had a wonderful lunch, not rushed at all. Staff was very attentive. Will definitely go back."

  • "Our experience at the Bar Boullud was not good. the service is bad the food took, came out wrong and to make matters worse, I found a piece of plastic in my food. We expected much more from the restaurant."
    Dined on 6/23/2014
  • "We had a reservation for two for lunch and were graciously seated outside. After we had our meal, I noticed that there was bread/rolls at every table but ours. I asked the waiter about it and he mumbled an apology. He didn;t even ask if we'd like some now. Then the bill came. We were charged $8.50 for a bottle of sparkling water which we did NOT order. We had asked for tap water and our glasses were refilled several times. Again, we called the waiter over and he said we had asked for sparkling water. Not true! Nor were we served sparkling water. Again, no apology. And..... no tip! Very disappointing because we eat at this restaurant frequently and the service has always been fine."

  • "I've been here in the past dinner and loved it, but my croque monsieur for lunch was REALLY tough. Thank God they brought out steak knives. Are croque monsieurs supposed to be tough? Maybe. Other than that, our server was fantastic: so friendly and attentive!"

  • "Mr Boulud really has something else. After goingo to Daniel and Café Boulud, we decided to try the Bar.... Outstanding as the others ! Great food, service and ambience. Congratulations Mr Boulud."

  • "We had a delicious brunch. We ordered the Frenchie burgers cooked medium, and mine was much rarer than I would have liked, but our server was diligent in trying to get me to send it back. She was very attentive and helpful."

  • " staff was marvelous & attentive, food is exactly what we expected.. Especially enjoyed trying the flight of wines..! Thank you, Daniel, Chef & staff"

  • "We sat outside on a sunny NYC day. Our server recommended a delicious Rose wine to accompany our excellent lunch. The burger and the Croque Monsieur were cooked to perfection. The service was spot on. Highly recommended - will be back"

  • "Awesome staff - attentive, friendly, and not overbearing (never hovered but readily available). Food was tremendous! The steak tartare and veal with the sweetbreads were outstanding. This was our first time so we didn't know what to expect. We were hoping for a quieter atmosphere, but given that, it was a good find."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "Finally a great place to eat before theater at Lincoln Center. The $29 prix fixe lunch is a bargain, even if a glass of wine and an espresso turn it into a $50 tab including tax and tip."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "Went with my adult daughter last night. Nice space. Food was good but rather plainly prepared. Service was indifferent. When asked to recommend a rose, the server could only suggest the $73 highest priced of the 3. I guess the $53 and $45 bottles were clearly inferior. Too pricey for what you get."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "Notable and exciting wine list. Ordered a green salad, it still had water in it (not drained properly) and was incredibly bland (underseasoned). The Frenchie burger was delicious, but overwhelmed by a horseradish type flavor that muted the lovely beef, short ribs, and pork belly. Again, a seasoning problem. Service was awkward."

  • "My favorite spot during Lincoln Center summer season. Very good food, wine selection & service + a treat to people watch while dining."

  • "The DIFFERENTt brunch place in Manhattan. Although eggs and charcuterie abound throughout the brunch menu what is served at Bar Bolud is different...very French and made with the utmost care. Eggs are soft and softer when requested. Duck confit is a rich and delicious accompaniment to eggs (probably chicken, not duck). Sitting outside, across from Lincoln Center on a spring day is a real New York experience, worthy of New Yorkers. And no Sunday morning food lines. They take and honor brunch reservations. Hard to imagine a better brunch in New York, and good for other meals too."
