With four of us we sampled a few different main courses. Although not particularly creative the fish dishes were very good. The bread was excellent. The wis list for glasses of wine was overpriced and limited but offered some good choices. The dessert was totally underwhelming and was $14. I f it was even at the level of tasty i would not comment but in fact it was close to tasteless than good. Overall the service and food was quite good, but the restaurant is overpriced for what it is now delivering.

Trying to rock a Balthazar vibe, Bar Boulud serves up bistro French food, heavy on the charcuterie and other pig parts. I thought it was a safe place to try mussels, and I was wrong as they were overcooked and tasteless, missing the promised bacon and swimming in a greasy cream broth. My daughter's ravioli was similarly disappointing. The other members of our party, however, were much happier with the lamb and scallops and pork shoulder. Across from Lincoln Center, the restaurant is a long tunnel, noisy and not beautiful. On the plus side, the service was friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. Also, as a party of 5, it was a pleasure for once not to be stuck in the basement or back room.

You can't go wrong here. The place is active...but once you sit, you are permitted to relax and let the noise swirl above you without getting in the way. Not only are the menu and wine list first rate, but there is a listing of "Discovery" wines that span a wide price range and have some truly interesting selections. And the service is welcoming and informed, and often comes with a good sense of humor.

It was our first time dining at Bar Boulud, and it could not have been more perfect! We had an early reservation (5:15pm), because we were going to the theater. The restaurant was relatively quiet at that time, and we were seated in a booth. I had the butternut squash soup as an appetizer, which was heavenly, and my husband had the pate, which he said was delicious. For dinner, I had the tuna, which was perfectly prepared, and my husband raved over his duck confit. We both ordered dessert (sorbet for me, Bavarian pear cake with frozen yogurt for him) - delicious!!! The service was efficient and attentive, and the food was delectable! We will definitely be going back!

Booked for special occasion (mums birthday). Weather awful but coats and umbrellas checked quickly. Food and service were fab if portions if entries were a bit small. Even got a free dessert due to birthday! Only criticism was the room was quite cold, especially noticeable due to the torrential rain outside. Otherwise perfect. Remember to book in advance. Arrived on a wet Wednesday in October and still a wye to get in!

I was very disappointed in this restaurant. I had a salad - the dressing was all but nonexistent but given the small amount I could taste, that was a good thing. The steak with bernaise had all the taste and texture of a sneaker. Can't think of a single reason to go unless you are starving, desperate and have theater tickets.

It wasn't my first time at Bar Boulud, which suggests that my previous experience has not discouraged me. Everything would be perfect if not for the fact that we had to wait for the waiter for over 20 min after being told that booths were not available, which wasn't true and then being seated in the area that emptied up. So at that time restarant was not that busy and there was no reason why our waiter would have to procrastinate with showing up at our table. Other than the service that clearly needs an improvement everything else was great!

We will not be returning to this restaurant. First of all, when we arrived for our 7:30 pm reservation the hostess said that our reservation was for 8:00. I showed her an email that proved it was for 7:30 and I told her I had called the night before to confirm 7:30. This restaurant is not comfortable for parties over 4. We were a party of 6 and they had to squeeze 3 tables together in a tight space. Not comfortable. Our waitress had an attitude and it was not a service oriented attitude. She had this bored look all evening and was not responsive. For a Boulud restaurant, the food was mediocre. I cannot tell you how disappointed we were.

Here's a summary of the experience: ordered the Frenchie burger for my nephew (2 yrs old) who has a severe egg & nut allergy - MAYO came out as a side on his plate, appetizer came out with the entrees, bottle of wine came a few bites into the entrees, and the bill had two side dishes on it that we ordered but never got and were never acknowledged as missing by the waiter and fortunately us. Shame on him for not evening reading the bill before bringing it to the table! I was so disappointed and embarrassed, as I had picked out the restaurant for visiting family. Definitely will not be visiting anytime soon.

a parisian friend of mine recently said that the best french restaurant in the world, outside of france itself, was Bar Boulud. he recommended it so strongly that I made a point to eat at the establishment before watching the met opera, which is across the street at lincoln center. mon dieu! I went with a lebanese friend of mine who owns several high-end restaurants, and even he said it was one of the best meals he has ever had. it was excellent. truly, a life-altering meal. but as both of us are in hospitality, I must compliment the amazing wait staff on their politeness and grace. some of the best service I have seen. I plan to go back many more times.

Bar Boulud does the simple things very well. My date and I had the charcuterie plate to share, and had the duck and lamb dishes for entrees. The appetizer was perfect to share, great quality pates. As for the mains, excellent execution on preparing the meat. Everything was cooked perfectly. However, the entrees were not creative of inventive by any means. Very expensive wine list, with few wines under $100. In my opinion, the food is worthy of a Michelin star. It was, however, a good place to go pre-opera at the Met.

Three of us had another pre-opera meal. I had a terrific linguini with squid ink as a first course--couldn't have been more delicious, and then gnocchi with rabbit--the rabbit was very generous. There was a delicious leek soup; and one of us had the beet shortrib special. The bread was exceptional; the gougeres at the start not to miss. This is one of my favorite restaurants in all New York. Great food, comfortable but sophisticated ambience, and virtually always great service.

Met and out-of-town guest for lunch. Great choice. We all had the prix-fixe and everything was quite good. At $29 per person, a very good deal for a restaurant of this caliber. I had the pate, chicken and vegetables in a cast iron skillet and dessert. Was quite good and substantial. Wonderful cocktail of pisco, ginger (probably Canton) and cardamom - have to figure out the recipe!

Enjoyed the meal. I love places where I can have upscale food in a relaxed setting and I thought the food here was a cut above the rest. I just have two small complaints about the service. First, I thought I heard my waiter literally snicker when he was told that neither I nor my dining companion were having wine with our dinner. The other was that my companion and I asked to split a salad and an appetizer to start. I noticed that at a nearby table, their server brought a salad in two small plates- a nice touch. Our server brought out a single-plated salad and the appetizer, placed them in the middle of the table and walked away- we had to ask for extra plates. Despite the uneven service, will plan to return.

Bar Boulud never ceases to please. Even something as traditional as a hamburger becomes the "Frenchie burger" - arugula, pulled pork, and a super thick chunk of prime ground Angus beef cooked to perfection. Impossibly crisp French fries complete this Boulud take on an American classic. The Croque Monsieur was as good as this French classic gets.
