  • Wishing Daniel Boulud Much Success

I dined the second day of opening and it is already running like a well run machine. Very professional and attentive staff provided excellent service. A bit pricey for French peasant food. The small charcuterie at $30+ provided three small wedges of different pates and some prosciutto along with teeny sides of mustard, diced beets and carrots artfully arranged. A little too precious IMO. My coq au vin entree was also carefully arranged. Seeing the buzz at the bar, this place is a place to see and be seen. While very good, and wishing the restaurant much success, I personally think Brasserie Jo or Petit Robert offer a better product and dining experience. This may be unfair to say since Bar Boulud has not even been open a week.

My wife and I have been looking forward to this opening for a long while. We attended opening night to check out the place and the menu, and we left very happy. The signature charcuterie plates looked great, but we chose to have a duck and fig pate that was brilliant. It didn't come with the brioche toasts I'm used to, but the house bread was good with it. The Escargot had an excellent balance of herbs, garlic and butter. We could taste every flavor in harmony. We shared an Entrecot (ribeye) served with marrow and bearneaise, along with a side of frites. The seasoning was excellent, and it was cooked perfectly. The sauce and the marrow were the "icing on the top". The espresso and gateau basque were the perfect ending. We'll be back!
