While the food service was slow the servers were attentive and never was the water glasses empty. The burger was a bit messy as the roll was not adequate and rather stale . Will try an entrée another time.

We were welcomed and immediately seated at a table for 4 by the window. The service was excellent but not over bearing. We were 4 college classmates in a mini reunion. The menu was perfect for a ladies lunch. The portions were just right and many choices even fro vegetarians. We all chose the price fix luncheons specials. Two courses for $28.00. We laughed and enjoyed the ambiance of the wine cellar atmosphere at a leisurely pace. I would highly recommend Bar Boulud. I will certainly be back again.

This restaurant just opened and I had to check it out. It is definitely a more expensive restaurant compared to the average restaurant in back bay. That being said, I think the food is well done and they definitely didn't skim on the quantity. The wine is definitely a little expensive in my opinion. I would want them to have a better price range selection.

Went for breakfast. The pancakes were awesome as well as the whipped ricotta. I ordered a side of potatoes. Now normally, when you order a side of breakfast potatoes, you get a lot---and for $9 I was expecting to get a whole lot... I got 12. And they weren't anything fantastic. Waitress, Delphine, was great.

Having heard quite negative things in advance, we were delighted to have our family group of 9 persons, of all ages, there for dinner. All aspects of the evening met or exceeded our expectations for fine dining. My wife and I eat out in Boston nearly every night, and we dine regularly at all of the "best". Boulud is a good addition to our list.

We had an excellent meal to celebrate our anniversary at Bar Boulud. The service was excellent and the food was incredible. I never knew shrimp could be so soft! And do not skip dessert, it was just as delectable (highly recommend the pineapple coupe). Top notch restaurant, we already look forward to dining there again!

The positives of this place are the food, which was actually quite good, very flavorful, decent portions, and the location, right on Boylston. Convenient. We got a sampling of charcuterie and appetizers and some drinks. The charcuterie was great. Don't bother with the onion soup. My husband's Manhattan-esque drink was very good, but the cocktail list was very short. Also the wine by the glass list was very short. It was tough for me to find something I wanted. Service was good. All in all, however, I would rather spend my time and money at Capital Grill down the street.

The bar is very nice and the wine list impressive. Unfortunately the restaurant does not live up to its promise, with uneven dishes that don't justify the high prices. Thus you may enjoy a great appetizer only to be disappointed with your entree. Some of the French dishes lacked authenticity.

Daniel Boulud's Boston outpost comes with great promise but has yet to realize it fully -- the operation does not yet run as smoothly as Boulud's New York restaurants, and the food, while solid, does not yet show flair and personality. Little things go awry: you are asked what you will have to drink before you have had a drinks menu -- and then the wait until you get to order is unacceptably long. Still, the cocktails, once they arrived, were very pleasing, and so were the wine choices. "Table snacks," too, are good: nice gougère, tasty pork belly (although mustard is an unexpected accompaniment). But the main dishes -- at least those we had -- were correct but not much more: a "desconstructed" coq au vin somewhat dry and not suffused with wine flavor; a veal tenderloin also on the dry side. Service is friendly and attentive throughout, if somewhat overstressed on a very busy night. Daniel Boulud has a great track record, and things will no doubt fall into place better as Bar Boulud evolves. It's already a smash success -- but let's hope that it can be more than that.

What's the point of making a reservation a week in advance only to arrive on time and discover there is only one really bad table available smack in the middle of the restaurant....and the server without batting an eye says if you want a better table you'll have to wait 30 minutes. Then we ended up in the bar. Not the place I wanted to sit or eat. The old M Bar was elegant. This decor looks like an Olive Garden. Food was fine but not memorable. Not sure I'd ever go back,

while the food was good, it is overpriced for what you are eating and drinking. We paid the same amount for a casual dinner for two as we would have paid for a lovely dinner at a much fancier place. the wine list is overinflated - $30 for a glass of rose champagne. The New York locations are more creative and more reasonable prices.

Bar Boulud in Boston is an active, hopping place, and it was nearly full when we arrived for a 5:45 reservation on a Saturday night. The decor is contemporary, the menu classic French with a New England seafood influence. We ordered the Gougere (gruyere cheese puffs) and the charcuterie board as appetizers. The board offered selections from the terrines of the house as well as some charcuteries maison. For dinner we had the sole and the New York strip, both dishes very well prepared and accompanied by a side of fries (just average). For dessert, we had the gateau orange and the gateau basque. Bar Boulud is an exciting place, and it will take another visit to get a sense of the full range of what they offer.

We ordered onion soup and Caesar salad for our appetizers. My soup had barley in it which I don't like, but my server happily exchanged it, and I also got the Caesar. The cherry tomatoes were peeled which was a refreshing twist. My husband ordered the sole for his main course, and it came beautifully presented on a plate with small pieces of cauliflower and different colored broccoli. I ordered the steak frites. The french fries were the best I've ever eaten in my entire life. There was no aftertaste after having eaten them. It was as if they had just taken a potato and made them right then and there which is what I am sure they did. The steak came in the shape of a sausage. Although it was tasty, it was a little tough and hard to chew.

Attractive space. Hopping with energy on a Friday night. We all noted that food had too much salt. Our waitperson was very professional and pleasant but even he acknowledged that the waiting time for entrees was way too long and gave us complimentary wine. Poor service delivered by condescending waiter in a rush. Ordinary food commanding outrageous prices. Disappointing wine with waiter pushing certain glasses....and the wine glasses were the "universal" size when you ordered by the glass rather than a bottle, causing the red wine to be squished into a too small glass. Overpriced selections. Overall, a restaurant that is too impressed by the Boulud name to bother to deliver anything special of value keeping in mind that the customer is the reason they are there!

I was so happy to see a Daniel Bouloud restaurant in Boston. It lived up to my expectations. Two minor criticisms - bartender did not fill my water when it was empty and it took him a while to process my check when we placed the credit card on the folder in plain view. I can't chalk that up to them being new as they are basic service skills. The food was excellent, though.

have been twice, had same waiter. He is great - efficient, welcoming, and expedient. But they had given him way too many tables so we suffered through another person taking our order who must have misunderstood us. Alls well that ends well as the food is great and we enjoyed ourselves, but a waitstaff that all understands English, or their menu, would be wonderful.

Lunch Boulod (prix fixe) was excellent, both taste and presentation. But seating for couples is not great (it's better for larger groups), and best tables seem to be assigned to those who know staff/management. I never rec'd a requested refill on the delicious coffee, and there were large gaps in other service (tho' plates were cleared quickly, as if to keep us moving.) Could not recommend, and probably won't return.

There's a lot to like here. Nice to see Daniel Boulud make the effort to come to Boston. The menu is limited but there's enough to please. Expected more from the burger... good but very bland. The Coq au Vin was fantastic... lots of finesse in a dish you'd not normally look for it in. Desserts are excellent. The room is nice but lots of hard surfaces, not so comfortable. Wine pricing is absolutely insane...

Bar Boulud comes with high expectations given the reputation of his career and other establishments. Bar Bouloud is a welcome addition to the Backbay neighborhood, at the high end without having to be overly stuffy or formal. The food was exceptional, the staff attentive, but perhaps almost to a flaw - one doesn't quite have to explain or recommend everything on the menu in triplicate, but I'm chalking that up to having just opened. Looking forward to going back, possibly for dinner next time!

Love the ambiance and decor of the restaurant. The Thon Cru and escargot both lacked seasoning. The peekytoe crab was excellent and full of flavor. The veal, three ways, was cooked perfectly and the highlight of the meal. The ribeye was also cooked and seasoned perfectly, but the bits of bone marrow on top wasn't necessary. Too full for dessert, so we opted for macarons and bonbons, which were a nice way to end the meal. Service was fantastic. I forgot our servers name, but she was very warm and friendly and attentive during the entire evening.

I took a friend out for lunch to celebrate a special birthday and Bar Boulud did not disappoint. We were aiming for a spa style lunch so we shared a peeky toe crab appetizer which was heavenly, beautiful and had a variety of textures on the plate. Both of us ordered a cabbage salad with chicken. The chicken was so moist and tender as opposed to the typical lunch salad that tosses a piece of dried out chicken on top of whatever salad is ordered. It was a simple lunch that certainly didn't test out the menu to it's fullest extent but for this light, celebratory lunch, it was perfect. They also surprised us both by appearing with a lovely plate of hot, freshly baked, Madeleines dusted in powdered sugar with a candle on plate. Lovely.
