A word from Bar Bolonat
Located in the West Village, Bar Bolonat offers an exuberant celebration of modern Mediterranean and new Israeli cuisines. Bold flavors and spices are staples on Chef Einat Admony’s playful, seasonally-inspired menu. Sharing is encouraged when selecting from small plates, appetizers and entrees. Menu offerings change often, and we use local, seasonal, sustainably harvested produce where possible.

The Wine list features an array of small production from various Mediterranean countries, including Israeli wines, high-quality selections with an emphasis on traditional and natural winemaking. Our wine list is hand-chosen for flavor, uniqueness and tradition.

Bar Bolonat can host parties for up to 20 guests in the private dining room, and the full restaurant is available for large private functions for lunch or dinner. The full restaurant can accommodate up to 55 guests for seated events and up to 75 guests for cocktail receptions.

Although the food is very good, the noise level is the worst I have experienced in NY. My husband and I generally have a high tolerance for noise in restaurants but this place is absolutely deafening. I have dined out at least 3 or 4 times a week for over 20 years and this is the first time that conversation was completely impossible. Also, they seemed to be understaffed and somewhat clueless about the timing of reservations/ table turnover. This place needs some fine tuning and help with their acoustics before we would consider going back.

Every dish was delcious! Even some that didn't sound appealing like the cauliflower with Bamba and peanut tahini was great! Loved both fish dishes, esp the halibut. The falafel coated snapper(?) was very tasty but a bit overcooked. Loved the fried olives, bagel with zatar and the fatoosh salad was delish!!!! Nice to try all these different flavors in one place. They all complimented one another. I will try her other restaurants soon!

Some very good vege selections -- great cauliflower and fried olives and bagel, delicious spices. Drinks watery and little flavor, especially the Shiksa. Desserts so-so. They were out of the one dessert wine I wanted.

A first-class restaurant. Recommended by a friend and more than lived up to recommendations. The lamb belly and shoulder was superb -- subtle and robust at the same time, as were the fried olives . The service was excellent -- attentive but not obtrusive -- and the wine was delicious (if a little pricey?. I would have given 5 stars for the food but the dessert was not up to the creative standards of the rest of the meal -- not bad, just not great. But, I'll look forward to coming back for more.

I couldn't have been more pleased with Bar Bolonat. The service was excellent and the food was even better. What to order? EVERYTHING. The most noteworthy menu items were the Jerusalem bagel, everyday cauliflower, baby artichokes, Hudson street kibbeh and the minute steak. The flavors were all perfectly paired. My only complaint would be the portions weren't as large as I'd hoped.

We thought the food here was fantastic -- especially the cauliflower and poussin. Any fan of modern Israeli food would find this place a treat. But the service was inadequate. While the staff were very friendly, it seemed that once our order was taken the only contact we had was with the bus staff, who came and put down dishes as they came out of the kitchen. No one ever checked on on us, we had to flag down our server to ask for another round of drinks and again to request a bill. It seemed no one was in charge. I also wasn't a great fan of the restaurant's layout, which centers on a bar with the seats at the perimeter. Also when I used the restroom (towards end of evening) it was a bit revolting.

Second time here (once with a highly discerning restaurant critic!) and both times I found the food to be original, fresh, Ottolenghi-like. Portions are ideal, and we ended up sharing 6 of the middle courses, which made the meal fun and interesting. Service is rather amateurish and unpolished, overly-attentive in spurts then completely not attentive -- very strange. the Fair rating, above, is being generous.

The food was excellent. However, the service was very poor, and the kitchen seemed to forget about our table. The table to the side of us who came after us got their food first, and when our main dishes came out, the pasta was cold. They ended up taking it off the bill, but the service could definitely improve.

Our server was excellent! My girlfriend is vegan and he kindly came back to our table with additional information, without being asked, that was a great help. The food was very good (I'm not vegan or vegetarian) and the ambiance was romantic, low lighting but not too dark, a bit noisy (it is on the small side) but not overly so. The kitchen is in plain view and unlike most others where chaos rules this kitchen was almost serene and the place was almost full. Bravo!! We will be back again.

Chef Einat has done it again. For vegetarians in this city, Bar Bolonat is a wonderful place to escape the hassle of having enough choices to craft an beautiful meal. Personal favorites include the succulent Japanese Eggplant, the refreshing Green Fatush, and the delicate Grilled Baby Artichokes. Every dish was prepared with so much care, detail and love that you wish you could spend all evening gathered around that table. The service is top notch and both dining experiences there have been exquisite. I can't wait to share this experience with more and more friends.

Seems they're still working out the kinks here as we waited a while to order drinks and place an order. So long, in fact, that other people's orders were mistakenly dropped by our table TWICE before our waiter could even get to us. Happened to the tables next to us, too. Once she did take our order, she forgot what we said. Some of the dishes also showed up lukewarm, though it wasn't clear if that was intentional or not. The $15 drinks were tasty, but not out of this world.

This was our second visit since they opened, and we decided to try as many of the small plates and appetizers as we could. Everything was absolutely great: Jerusalem bagel, fried olives, asparagus and scallions, kibbeh with preserved lemon yogurt, cauliflower, shrimp with curry, and the artichokes with pistachios. We literally locked the plates clean. And for dessert we had to have the halvah creme brûlée, which ranks as one of the best new desserts we've had in a long time. Friendly and professional service. Not to be missed.

A 40-minute wait for a table and a seemingly inexperienced host who offered drinks but at one point suggested we book for another night. (The reservation was made almost a month in advance.) Mgr, Terese (sp?) finally moved things along, creating a four-top and served complimentary champagne & deep fried olives, which put us in a much better frame of mind to enjoy what turned out to be an excellent meal. We grazed thru a series of small satisfying dishes. The mains at nearby tables looked good. Finished with 3 desserts for 4, two of which were on the house. Good if not perfect ratings, much due to the swift, friendly and professional actions of the manager and staff. (And we'll forgive the host's inexperience!)

We thought the food ranged from ok, (dorade) to fantastic (bulgur kibbeh appetizer, and the squab entree, and desserts), with appetizers (and desserts) better than entrees in general. We went for a birthday celebration, but were seated in a dim, underground room that looked like a bunker, which was so noisy we couldn't hear ourselves speak to each other; truly the level of a din. Not that the upstairs room was any quieter, possibly even noisier Not only could we not hear each other, we could not hear the waiter explaining the food and the menu. There is obviously a happening scene here, with everyone looking happy and enjoying the food. But it would be hard for us to recommend this restaurant without major warnings about noise levels.

We went to this restaurant upon hearing the good reviews. We showed up a little early for our reservation and that was no problem. We were seated immediately and that was the best part of dinner. Service was so slow, we thought it must have have a soft opening. It took over 25 minutes for each dish to come out of the kitchen. The food was fair at best. Nothing memorable. We left hungry. Will not return.

We went for dinner at 9pm on a Friday with a reservation. We were promptly seated downstairs. Though tastefully decorated, it was a little "close" in there and felt somewhat like sitting in a very decorative shipping container. No insult, though! We shared multiple small and medium plates with one entree (hand cut pasta). The fried olives were a delicious and unique start. We moved on to the artichoke, a solid choice. We continued with the Zabzi Tagine (beef cheek) which was succulent and outstanding - must try. The Shrimp in Yemenite Curry was incredible - very creative with layers of flavor. Last, the hand cut pasta - tasty and different. We finished with the creme brulee, wonderful. Great meal, and the service was outstanding.

Overall I found my Bar Bolonat experience a little disappointing. The hostess sat my party of three in the windowless basement area, which has about five tables. You're completely cut off down there from the vibrant street-level scene upstairs. Our waiter took my drink order first, entered it into the computer, then didn't take the other two drink orders until five minutes later. As a result my drink came to the table minutes before my friends', which struck me as odd. He was generally a little unfriendly and when it came to order dessert we had a number of questions about what certain words meant on the menu which he grumpily answered. The food: ok. Not great. Disappointing fattoush, good bagel and gelato. Kibbeh were a little dry.

As a big fan of Taim and Balaboosta I was really looking forward to my first meal here. Good news: the food is great! Bad news: the space feels very cramped, and the service seems geared toward getting you in and out as quickly as possible. Tapas-style small plates are brought out in very rapid succession, and with such small tables there's not enough room for more than two at a time. So if you've ordered 3 or 4 or more you have to wolf them down to make space for the new arrival. This majorly detracted from my enjoyment of the restaurant.

Went to Bar Bolonat because it showed up on one of my foodie lists. The food was really good - my kudos to the chef! However you can see they are still a new spot and pulling it together. There was an area in the front that there were no seats because they didn't have the licensing. The waitress forgot our artichoke order until we reminded her. (artichokes are my favorite food. oops) Felt a little packed in, but I think when they get things together this spot will be great. The closest thing to a perfect bite was the Poussin, but I still want to return to try others. Shows potential. Worth the visit. Working out the kinks.
