Diner Reviews
  • "Thoroughly enjoyed the experience, food and atmosphere ."

  • "Close to the theater district, Bobby Flay's place serves up southern takes on steaks and seafood. I usually have the shrimp and grits, it never disappoints. The appetizer trio of seafood cocktails is almost a meal in itself. The creamed kale was delicious. Definitely a pace to visit again and again."

  • "Drinks were good. Potato chips with bleu cheese dip were delicious. Oddly our entrees arrived right after we ordered them. We had just started on our appetizer. Shrimp and grits were tasty, as was the pork chop. Dessert was good but nothing special. I found the service appropriate."

  • "there were too many spicy entrees and not enough choices for the average diner to choose from."

  • "I selected this restaurant due to its proximity to the theater we were going to, but was not sure what the dining experience would be. It far exceeded our expectations. We were four people who all ordered oysters first. They were the best we ever ate, and that is saying a lot. We then had three different fish/seafood entrees-- all were excellent. They also brought a pistachio creme brûlée for us to share, with a candle on it for my husband's birthday. We were surprised at how quiet the restaurant was, but we were there late on a week night."

  • "My food was a little more than passable. My companion found her very expensive steak in edible. Veggies were overlooked. Best thing was the hot potato chips and the martini. Service was good. All in all, not worth the price."

  • "We wanted to eat at one of Bobby's restaurants. This one was just okay. Had a hair in my corn bread. Yuk!"

  • "Underwhelmed. The food was sub-par unfortunately. We were disappointed"

  • "I have dined at Bar American on several occasions. I have felt confident recommending it. I was joined by an out of town guest on Tuesday night and was embarressed that I made the recommendation. From the moment we sat down I felt like we were an imposition to the waiters. They were not friendly but more importantly they weren't present. We had little or no attention to our meals. After our appetizer was finished it took a long time for our plates to be cleared. Then a wait for our entree that was not even hot when it was delivered to the table. No came by to ask how it was or I would have sent it back. The creme brulee that was ordered for dessert was burnt! Again no one came by to inquire. A very disappointing experience."

  • "The Sazerac was on point!!! - Best one I have ever had! Food was phenomenally good! Service was attentive and kind. Very very nice experience! I am glad I stumbled upon this spot last minute! Such a great find!"

  • "We went to NYC and I really want to try iron chef bobby flay's food. We ordered the shrimps and grit and a lamb loin. The good was above par but very petite for that price."

  • "The food was excellent, the ambience was relaxed yet upscale, the service was attentive, overall we had a great experience. The serving staff accommodated our show time very efficiently and made great recommendations as to what to order to ensure that we would be on time. Would definitely go back."

  • "The Hot Blue Cheese Potato Chips are worthy of the Gold Cup. And the wait service was willing, smiling, friendly and knowledgeable; they were refilling our glasses and offering to bring us more chips, forever endearing themselves to us. The seafood was great: try the Hangtown Fry and the Preakness Eggs Benedict. The hamburger came char grilled, served with your choice of cheeses (mine was pimiento cheese) and different condiments and used the best quality beef offered; it was sublime and cooked to perfection. Looking forward to our return to try the other menu offerings."

  • "Didn't make us wait for our reserved table. Did not like my snail appitizer( bland). I was not impressed with the meal if the day, strip steak, Philly cheese steak style( not much taste). My husbands steak was over cooked, he sent it back for a new one. With out comsining or asking, the manager came over three times to apologize and took the steak off the bill and free desert too, which was nice of her. This was my second time here and not impressed once again . I will not return or reccomend. I must say, I am a huge fan of Mesa Grill in Vegas."

  • "I am not ashamed to say that we came, as tourists, to Bar Amercain out of our respect and admiration for Bobby Flay and for a romantic birthday dinner. On this cold and rainy Friday evening, we were warmly greeted, our coats and umbrellas were checked and we were immediately seated at a cozy table overlooking, but not overly close to, the kitchen. The service was friendly, attentive, professional and quick. From the Manhattan chowder and asparagus salad appetizers to the Snapper and Rabbit entrees to the pistachio brûlée and apple tart desserts, we had a wonderfully prepared and seasoned meal. Oh, and the peartini was divine! Everyone around us seemed to be having a good time, but it was not loud or boisterous. I highly recommend."

  • "It has been a few years since I've been here but it is still great. While I preferred the old Bolo, this is a great runner up."

  • "Hubby is a huge Food Network fan and Bobby Flay fan so we had to try eating at Bar Americain while in NYC. Neither of us consider ourselves "foodies" per say but it was one of the best restaurants we've been to. The service was outstanding and our waiter was very attentive but not in a pushy or annoying way. My husband ordered the rabbit dish and I order the Philadelphia style steak (we are from Philly after all) and we were both blown away by the flavors and impeccable presentation of our food! Wow. Loved it and would definitely go back."

  • "Great food, great ambiance, got busy around lunchtime and the waiter was a little impatient but other than that, would absolutely go back and highly recommend. Loved the fish tacos and Pimms drink"

  • "Certainly a little pricey but it was a wonderful place to treat ourselves on our first time in NYC. I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting a special dinner or as a once in a while special treat. The service was great, very pleasant and attentive. The food was delicious and very quick getting to the table. Overall a great experience."

  • "We arrived early and the bar was pleasant. The bartender was very friendly. Seating for out table was done on time and waiter very informative. All the food was excellent except the pork dish, it was very heavy on the cumin, which happened to be recommended by our waiter. We've eaten at Bob's restaurants and have always had a great experience and great food, aside form the some indecent with the pork everything was great."

  • "Everything I expected & more from a big, American, NYC restaurant! Ambience, service, the food and drink were all top notch. Will definitely be back and spread the word to all friends and family visiting the city. EXCELLENT!"

  • "Service is always outstanding @ Flay restaurants! All appetizers & entrees were excellent, as always, but the escargot & the grits in shrimp & grits especially fine. Wanted more."

  • "One of the best restaurants I havr eaten at in N Y C. Mr. Flay never disappoints a customer. From the appetizer to the coffee and dessert, everything was delicious. The Malbec wine was so smooth. I was having lunch with my daughter at Bar Americain and what a great restaurant to share this experience with her. I definitely recomnend it and can't wait to go back there again."

  • "We had a fabulous dinner. We ordered the swordfish and the shrimp and grits, which were delicious! The swordfish was cooked perfectly. It was served with brussel sprouts. I don't normally like them, but I loved these. I highly recommend Bar Americain. I will definitely go back for the food and the service."

  • "From Scott the manager to David the bartender, this place is one of my favorites in NYC. Thanks guys, for another fabulous meal and cocktails!"

  • "Needed a restaurant near the theatres, I figured Bobby Flay was a good bet. The restaurant was half full I am guessing because the food was not good. There were three of us, and not one of us ordered anything we could recommend. Even the salads were mediocre at best. The manager noticed we had not eaten much, and took two of the entrees off the bill, which was very nice of him."

  • "As one would expect, the food was exceptional. I've been here numerous times and the menu changes frequently which I like. Alwasy something new to try and still keep the traditonal like the potato chips with the blue cheese sauce; to die for! This visit, while the entrees were very good, the desserts were outstanding. The German's chocolate cake and the pistachio creme brulee were worth the trip."

  • "Professional staff, service and outstanding food. The drinks, the apps and entree s were all very good."

  • "Our waiter was terrible for the caliber of this restaurant. When we first ordered our appetizer, the waiter urged us to order the dinner at the same time as the appetizer, otherwise we would need to wait a long time for our dinner to come. Which is FALSE, and what if we wanted to enjoy or meal instead of being rushed to order? Then, once we paid the bill, we had not gotten up from our table yet, and the waiter took our check from the table. Our waiter was starving for money, and wanted to turn our table over so that he could make more money. He urged us to order the dinner along with the appetizer because he wanted to get us out of the restaurant because we did not order any alcoholic drinks so that he could make more money."

  • "The service and ambience of Bar Americain was "as advertised", but the quality of the food did not meet expectations. One of our group of three ordered a strip steak that was inedible. Another ordered the hangar steak which was good, but not great . The other ordered the skate, which was quite good."

  • "Brought some friends who have never been, and they loved it. I have had dinner there a few times prior. I love the food and atmosphere"

  • "Service and atmosphere was good, entrees were heavy on cheese and overly salty...very heavy handed seasoning"

  • "We have gone to Bar Americain for dinner on many occasions, but this was the first time for Sunday brunch. The menu is unique. The food is delicious. The ambiance is great. Sometimes we even get to see Bobby Flay. It's right in the theater district. They cater to theater goers, making sure you get through on time."

  • "Everything was fine, I just wasn't wowed by the food. We had a time constraint and they were able to serve us within an hour."
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "It was a good steak but not a fantastic steak , the asparagus side was below average but really very below average, staff were great its a pity the kitchen can't perform to Bobby level when he is not there."
