Diner Reviews
  • "From making my initial reservation through our entire dining experience, the staff was extremely friendly and professional. The restaurant has great ambience and the drinks were amazing! Our meals were fabulous and cooked to perfection. Looking forward to another visit. "

  • "We arrived at Bar Americain on time and were immediately taken to our table. We were then greeted by our waiter. He was pleasant, knowledgeable and quickly made my husband and I feel very welcomed. The waiter told us right away, before we looked at the menu, that the restaurant was out of a couple of things including the fried chicken which I had planned to order. I am not a big steak eater, but my husband suggested the rib-eye steak for me. Oh how delicious it was! It was so tender I felt like I did not even need the steak knife. My husband had the strip steak, which he loved. Our side of fries with a great red pepper mayo was an ample enough serving for both of us. What a great dinner. We will definitely be returning!"

  • "Our family had dinner after seeing a show and we were exhausted. Our service and food were exceptional. Just what we needed to revive ourselves after a busy day in NYC. "

  • "Bobby Flay's Bar Americain offers some of the fresehest and creative comfort food in NYC. It isn't intended to help you get back into your bathing suit, but it is a great celebration afte you do, The poached eggs on crab cakes, bread plate, and house made potato chips with warm blue cheese dressng are all musts."

  • "This was our second trip to Bar Americain and the food was delicious once again! The Ramos Fizz is the best cocktail I have ever had, and I ordered the duck for the second time! "

  • "A trip to NYC, for me, is not complete without a visit to Bar Americain - whether for brunch or a cocktail at the bar (with house-made chips w/ blue cheese sauce, of course) or a pre-theater dinner I have always left with a smile on my face. On this visit we celebrated my mother's 70th birthday and once again the food, service, atmosphere were spot on. Great team!"

  • "Would rather go else where to eat. Too expensive for ok food. Ate at many places over 5 days... But would not go back. Very disappointed.... I would not recommend... Too many other wonderful places to eat."

  • "Very nice ambience, like a huge brasserie, friendly service, good food. I especially like the pizza to start the dinner, spice and delicious."

  • "The restaurant is pretty. The food was plated nicely but my cheeseburger and fries were very average. I expected something special for $19. "

  • "The hot potato chips are good, though it was a little depressing to see them simply being kept hot under a heat lamp. The shrimp with grits would have been great if they had not overcooked the shrimp to the point of tastelessness and if they had not served the dish lukewarm. Apple tart was tasty but too sweet, and a white chocolate banana layer cake was also too sweet. I hadn't eaten here for several years and had memories of a much better restaurant. The service was excellent."

  • "My children are college age. We sat upstairs, which is preferable. There is less noise. The food was great! The service was great! Perfect location for theatre goers."

  • "Not the most adventurous dining, though there are some interesting choices. However, it's all beautifully prepared without a fear of big flavors and really good! Nice bread basket, impeccable ingredients, attractive preparations, wish the wines by the glass had a few more options. The perfect place to go with a mixed group of people - can equally satisfy a foodie and a meat and potatoes diner."

  • "Bar Americain is a great restaurant. Bobby Flay wows with a creative menu and amazing flavors. The atmosphere is lively and extremely attractive. Unfortunately, our service was not very attentive. We had a difficult time getting drinks and even when making eye contact with the waiter, I got little response. Other tables seemed to be getting much better service and I believe we simply had a very poor waiter. "

  • "Bar Americain was an exceptional venue for an after theater meal. The children enjoyed the environment and were in awe of the dining room and seafood display. Zachary, our waiter, as well as the entire team, was very attentive to our needs and handled service to our 11 and 13 yr. olds with ease. The food was delicious, though some could have used a bit more seasoning (hot potato chips were not consistent and the buttermilk potatoes we underwhelming.) Overall the meal was enjoyable and a great place to introduce our children to fine dining."

  • "I adore Bobby Flay, so I wanted to try his restaurant. I was not disappointed. Excellent food, excellent drinks, excellent service. The Filet and the Pistachio Crème Brûlée were perfection. If you like good food, go to Bar Americain. "

  • "This was my second time there. The first time was dinner with friends, and I thought most dishes were too heavily salted. That is saying a lot since I like my food saltier than most everyone I know. I thought it was an off night, and went back a second time for an early lunch with my sister and her 2 young kids. So many items looked great, but most were not executed well.... The pizza was terribly disappointing, the new England clam chowder inedible because of the salt. The spice crusted filet mignon sandwich was tasty but too salty. The shrimp cocktail was good, and the Steak Tartare was fantastic. The servers were very friendly, and very accommodating to my niece and nephew, I think it helped we got there for first seating on a weekday"

  • "Close to the theater district, Bobby Flay's place serves up southern takes on steaks and seafood. I usually have the shrimp and grits, it never disappoints. The appetizer trio of seafood cocktails is almost a meal in itself. The creamed kale was delicious. Definitely a pace to visit again and again."

  • "Drinks were good. Potato chips with bleu cheese dip were delicious. Oddly our entrees arrived right after we ordered them. We had just started on our appetizer. Shrimp and grits were tasty, as was the pork chop. Dessert was good but nothing special. I found the service appropriate."
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "there were too many spicy entrees and not enough choices for the average diner to choose from."

  • "I selected this restaurant due to its proximity to the theater we were going to, but was not sure what the dining experience would be. It far exceeded our expectations. We were four people who all ordered oysters first. They were the best we ever ate, and that is saying a lot. We then had three different fish/seafood entrees-- all were excellent. They also brought a pistachio creme brûlée for us to share, with a candle on it for my husband's birthday. We were surprised at how quiet the restaurant was, but we were there late on a week night."

  • "My food was a little more than passable. My companion found her very expensive steak in edible. Veggies were overlooked. Best thing was the hot potato chips and the martini. Service was good. All in all, not worth the price."

  • "I have dined at Bar American on several occasions. I have felt confident recommending it. I was joined by an out of town guest on Tuesday night and was embarressed that I made the recommendation. From the moment we sat down I felt like we were an imposition to the waiters. They were not friendly but more importantly they weren't present. We had little or no attention to our meals. After our appetizer was finished it took a long time for our plates to be cleared. Then a wait for our entree that was not even hot when it was delivered to the table. No came by to ask how it was or I would have sent it back. The creme brulee that was ordered for dessert was burnt! Again no one came by to inquire. A very disappointing experience."

  • "We went to NYC and I really want to try iron chef bobby flay's food. We ordered the shrimps and grit and a lamb loin. The good was above par but very petite for that price."

  • "The food was excellent, the ambience was relaxed yet upscale, the service was attentive, overall we had a great experience. The serving staff accommodated our show time very efficiently and made great recommendations as to what to order to ensure that we would be on time. Would definitely go back."

  • "The Hot Blue Cheese Potato Chips are worthy of the Gold Cup. And the wait service was willing, smiling, friendly and knowledgeable; they were refilling our glasses and offering to bring us more chips, forever endearing themselves to us. The seafood was great: try the Hangtown Fry and the Preakness Eggs Benedict. The hamburger came char grilled, served with your choice of cheeses (mine was pimiento cheese) and different condiments and used the best quality beef offered; it was sublime and cooked to perfection. Looking forward to our return to try the other menu offerings."

  • "Didn't make us wait for our reserved table. Did not like my snail appitizer( bland). I was not impressed with the meal if the day, strip steak, Philly cheese steak style( not much taste). My husbands steak was over cooked, he sent it back for a new one. With out comsining or asking, the manager came over three times to apologize and took the steak off the bill and free desert too, which was nice of her. This was my second time here and not impressed once again . I will not return or reccomend. I must say, I am a huge fan of Mesa Grill in Vegas."

  • "I am not ashamed to say that we came, as tourists, to Bar Amercain out of our respect and admiration for Bobby Flay and for a romantic birthday dinner. On this cold and rainy Friday evening, we were warmly greeted, our coats and umbrellas were checked and we were immediately seated at a cozy table overlooking, but not overly close to, the kitchen. The service was friendly, attentive, professional and quick. From the Manhattan chowder and asparagus salad appetizers to the Snapper and Rabbit entrees to the pistachio brûlée and apple tart desserts, we had a wonderfully prepared and seasoned meal. Oh, and the peartini was divine! Everyone around us seemed to be having a good time, but it was not loud or boisterous. I highly recommend."

  • "Hubby is a huge Food Network fan and Bobby Flay fan so we had to try eating at Bar Americain while in NYC. Neither of us consider ourselves "foodies" per say but it was one of the best restaurants we've been to. The service was outstanding and our waiter was very attentive but not in a pushy or annoying way. My husband ordered the rabbit dish and I order the Philadelphia style steak (we are from Philly after all) and we were both blown away by the flavors and impeccable presentation of our food! Wow. Loved it and would definitely go back."
