Diner Reviews
  • "As usual seated immediately. Asked for a Quiet area. Yet next to table with loud child. The family tried hard and all eventually went well. Carlos did a great job all special requests done perfectly! The seafood trio 25$ excellent. 33$ chix while delicious needed a third piece. great meal."

  • "This was our third visit for dinner at Bar Americain and it was just as delicious as ever. The service is impeccable. The wait staff is very attentive and extremely polite. The food... oh the food! The shrimp and grits were heavenly. The Vidalia onion soup was the best we have ever had. My son had the fried chicken and loved every morsel. My other son had the Miami pork chop - it was cooked to perfection. Desserts were equally heavenly. We ordered and all shared the espresso creme brulee, the profiteroles with pistachio soft serve ice cream and the German chocolate cake were out of this world. My mouth is watering just typing about it! From appetizers to dessert every morsel was fabulous."

  • "I was really looking forward to dine at Bobby Flay's restaurant but was disappointed with evarage service, food and high prices - thumbs down. I ordered for my child pizza - bread + cheese =$17 really ??? The only positive thing I can say, beer was great!"

  • "From the moment we stepped into the beautifully decorated dining room we had a wonderful experience. The servers were warm, attentive, and knowledgeable. The food was excellent. We enjoyed a perfectly cooked and seasoned strip steak and a moist lamb loin over quinoa. The sommelier asked all the right questions and then steered us toward a perfect Rhone to accompany our meal. We were delighted when our dessert arrived with a 'Happy Anniversary' message spelled out in chocolate on the plate. We traveled across the country for a 4-day visit in NYC and this was by far the finest meal during our stay. Definitely worth a repeat on our next trip."

  • "Our main waiter was excellent. The others serving us rushed us at times during the meal."

  • "Ambiance is great for eating and or hanging out at the bar. Had dinner on Saturday night, food was delicious, ate the red snapper that had all the Bobby Flay touches! Shared the flat bread pizza for an appetizer and really liked it. Very accommodating, the services was excellent."

  • "We had an amazing experience! Food was superb, service was impeccable, and price was reasonable for quality of food and portion size. Will definitely return upon next visit to NYC!"

  • "A most return experience! Delicious food, amiable and cheerful service, personable staff!"

  • "The service was great, but the food was just average. You expect something amazing from a Bobby Flay restaurant, but this restaurant was just an ordinary steakhouse. We expected to be pleasantly surprised by the food but were not. I will not recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a wow factor."

  • "At $60 per person, it ended up being a pricy lunch option; however the service was very attentive and the food was well prepared. The restaurant was quite empty so it was easy to carry on a conversation."

  • "Bar Americain is consistently excellent. The only problem I have here is my own inability to explore the menu. I love the avocado and crab starter and have one or two mains that are so good I feel as if I'm cheating on them if I order something else. The rabbit is my favorite. The wine list includes a good choice of superb California reds that, considering the calibre of the restaurant, are reasonably priced. A sommieler provides snob-free advice. I also seem to be lucky to get the same waiter quite often and the service is unobtrusive and professional. I've brought my wife and six year old son here, groups of friends and most recently some business associates. It is suited for each type of occasion."

  • "The only thing I can say is that the wine was the best part of the meal. Despite a promising menu the food seemed as if it was prepared en masse ahead of time and reheated in a microwave just before serving. The sauces tasted as if they were out of a box and oversalted to compensate. I have been to the original Mesa Grill a few times and have always walked away satisfied. Sadly this place is harmful to the Bobby Flay brand and image and is really no different to an of the other theme park restaurants you find in this part of NYC, where you feel you could just as easily be sitting in a mall. Unfortunately, this new attempt at American Brasserie does hold up to the memory of the predecessor which previously inhabited the very same space."

  • "Dinner was very good, side of collard greens great, but sufle was VERY disappointing, under cooked, like oatmeal. Bobbie would Not have approved."

  • "We have gone to Bar Americain several times and we have always enjoyed the food. Saturday we were disappointed. We ordered the bacon pizza which was delicious. We always get the hot potato chips with blue cheese dipping sauce but this time the Chips were soggy and stuck together. Not what we have gotten in the past. I ordered the Florida style red snapper. It was tasteless. Not at all what I expect from Bobby Flays food! My husband got the shrimp and grits. The shrimp were so small and there were only 5 of them. The grits were more like a pudding then grits. Our friends ordered the ribeye and while they said the steaks were flavorful they were only about 1/2" thick. Again, not what we would expect from this restaurant and for the price!"

  • "Amazing crab cocktail, but at first we thought the place was closed. The curtains were closed and the awning looked dirty. Some of the interior was nice but some of the decor was a bit dated. Servers and bussers were kind (bussers were very attentive) but our entrees took a very long time to arrive with no apology. The breads and butter and jam were delicious too, as were the drinks (Kentucky 95, beer selection), but the turkey in the Kentucky hot brown was quite tough. The burger was nothing special in terms of flavour, although it was really nicely cooked. I was so excited to go to a Bobby Flay restaurant but think that he would be disappointed to see the quality of certain aspects of how the restaurant was being run."

  • "After many times eating at this restaurant over the years, I was disappointed. The food was awful. The service overbearing . The tuna tartar was served very cold and bland. The pork over cooked and dry. At these prices you should get better food. The the waiter....just wouldn't stop being too attentive."

  • "The menu just is not varied enough for my taste. Only one chicken dish and its a heavy cream potpie. Not a lot of salads choose from. Unfortunately, the lack of options will keep me from returning. Ambiance is great and service was very good."

  • "We were very excited to dine at one of Bobby Flay's restaurants and had very high expectations. The service was impeccable, the ambience lovely, but the food was very disappointing. I ordered the "Florida Style Snapper". It was VERY dry and the black bean puree just brought the whole dish down. My daughter ordered the filet, medium rare. It was RARE. When we mentioned to our waiter that it was undercooked for medium rare, he responded that that was "their rare". He was very nice about it and offered to have it cooked further, which he did. However, as most know, when you do that, the quality of the meat suffers. All in all, the food quality did not live up to what we expected from a Bobby Flay restaurant."

  • "A restaurant this large, with the Bobby Flay brand, needs more than a 2 stall women's room. The staff uses it to because the facility for them is even worse. This needs to be fixed, it's an embarrassment."

  • "As with most of Bobby Flay's, they rarely disappoint. This was no exception. The food was outstanding as was the service considering that they were really really busy. They made sure to take care of the customer no matter what. When we arrived or table wasn't quite ready. Instead of just sitting there they went and brought us drinks on the house. Bobby definitely instilled a sense of customer satisfaction with his wait staff. Even the nicest restaurants, this is often forgotten. We were there just for a lunch. I ordered a Cobb salad and my colleague ordered steak tartare. We asked them what we should order for appetizers and let them choose for us. Everything was great"

  • "while the snapper was delicious, I wish there was a bit more, and would it kill them to add a side with entrée? Lovely wait staff, even the young man who brought us bread (yumm corn sticks) was professional."

  • "This Bobby Flay restaurant delivered very tasty food along with very attentive service, all in a very elegant yet cozy atmosphere. We were seated as we walked in and were even asked if we were going to a play to make sure we would leave on time. We were very happy with the food (clam chowder - amazing - and pizza as appetizers), mussels and chicken as main were also very good. The price is fair, considering this is a world-renowned chef and it is in New York city. I was expecting much more expensive, but when I saw the prices I decided to go. I believe that considering the quality of the food, the prices are spot on. I would definitely go again and recommend this restaurant to foodies and non-foodies alike."

  • "This restaurant has been around so long and i hadn't been back in a while so i decided to see how things were. Remarkably fresh. My lunch of hot smoked salmon and sweet potato hash with quail eggs was EXCELLENT - i'll be back again soon."

  • "We love watching Bobby Flay on TV and loved his Mesa Grill in Las Vegas. When we discovered Bar Americain was close to our hotel in NY we walked over for a hearty lunch before a long afternoon and evening concert. The burger was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the fries were AMAZING. The lobster sandwich was delightful, the onions minced just the perfect size. The bread was soft yet didn't fall apart. (how does that happen?) Best of all, the chocolate cream pie. No words for how good that was. Recommended to split and enjoy with a double espresso."

  • "We were in NYC for 4 nights recently. Our concierge recommended Bar Americain. We decided to try it because it was very close to our hotel. We were extremely pleased with our choice. The food was excellent with a unique and varied menu. The ambiance was pleasant and contemporary. Service was good and staff was pleasant and friendly. My only criticism is that I had to ask for my coffee to be refilled."

  • "Much quieter on a Sunday night and same great food. Ciopino is loaded with seafood and has a nice spicey sauce. Meats are cooked just right. What you'd expect from a Bobby Flay restaurant -- very well run, and well prepared food at high mid-town prices."

  • "The interior was amazing, however, the food left a lot to be desired. They serve 3 types of bread but, one is so hard you have to chew on it like a lion on a piece of meat. My wife had the try 3 seafood sampler and barely are the lobster portion due to the lack of flavor. I chose the rib eye. The meat was cooked perfectly at medium rare, however, the outside was chared to the point you could only taste burnt meat. The creamed corn was great and would defiantly get again. Overall the resturant was good, but not sure if we will ever go back."
