  • "It was our first time to try this restaurant out. So, we went there to celebrate my husband's birthday. We've ordered raw oysters and tuna tartar for our first course and they were great! The oysters were fresh and sweet and the tuna tartar was spicy but not too spicy to overwhelm the taste of the tuna. Our main course was the rib eye and it was one of the best that I've ever had. The staff were very attentive and helpful. The guy serving us was extremely good. We were the last patrons to leave that night and tje staff were very solicitous as both my husband and I had too much to drink already. My husband said that was one of the best birthday dinners he ever had. Thanks to the staff for making this a wonderful night!"

  • "If you're looking for a great place to grab some drinks and appetizers before you see a show in New York - this is a great spot. Non-touristy, gorgeous, tons of seating, great appetizers and drinks, good service. Maybe a little pricey - but what restaurant/bar isn't when you're on our way to a show? Loved the ambience, the food, and the noise level was perfectly acceptable. Check it out. Attended with three other friends, and made a reservation beforehand. Would suggest you do the same."

  • "Had a great meal ( & we we asked the server to expedite our meal because we had tix for a concert at Radio City ) Food came quickly & wow was it great! Had the Cioppini ( sp ? seafood in a spicy broth ) KILLER Also had Rib eye steak ( cooked perfectly!!!!) The joint is beautiful & the staff is top notch! Congrats staff & crew at bar Americain...GREAT joint!"

  • "My first trip to New York City and wanted to dine at one of Bobby Flay's restaurants. I am the king of the BBQ back home in Toronto within my group of friends. But Wow! The service was the best ever! And the food was outstandingly amazing! The flavors just blend so well it will make you drool while eating! Best meal ever!! Will make my trip to New York City unforgettable! Loved it!!!"

  • "I have been to this restaurant twice in the last three weeks and both times the appetizer was far better than the entree. Loved the tuna tartare and the Mexican pizza, but the fried chicken was just ok, not up to Mr Flay's reputation. Last night I had the Tuesday special which is a skillet chicken cutlet with triple cream (whatever that is) and ham. The ham was overly salt and tough and when I pushed it aside as unedible, it revealed two small dabs of the triple cream covering about 10% of the cutlet. The chicken itself was decent, but overall the dish was not much better than a diner would serve. I will not be back anytime soon. Bobby needs to keep an eye on his empire."

  • "In NYC there are tons of great restaurants. We were initially excited to try Bar Americain, but we had poor service...waiting for beverages and our check and on top of it all the food was only ok. We had much better food on the lower east side with much better ambieance. Not worth the cost."

  • "We had amazing service from everyone we encountered. The food was outstanding. Did I say outstanding.....everything from the bacon pizza to the fish cioppino to the delish cherry tart. The only complaint was that the restaurant was only half filled, which means the ambiance wasn't so great and the people who were there seemed to be tourists. I like to dine in a restaurant that has buzz, where people are excited to be there. This was a Wednesday night between 6 and 8PM, typically a busy time. I might return if I am going to the theatre and there aren't other good options available that night."

  • "I had read quire a few reviews on the restaurant before we decided to go. The ambience was great. The wait staff was awesome. Very attentive and friendly. Very good service. The food was OK. We order the grilled pizza for appetizer. It was good...nice flavor, but oily.I order the red snapper. It was flaky, not dry but bland. My nice had the rabbit. She said it was a little dry but the drizzle helped a lot. My fiancée order the seafood market which was lobster, mussels and fish in a spicy tomato sauce. That was probably the best meal. The spicy broth was just right. The fish was cooked perfect in this dish. For dessert we order the strawberry soufflé and the German chocolate. The souffle was warm and sweet. The cake was very rich."

  • "My mother and I had lunch here. The raw bar items are delicious. She enjoyed her oysters and I enjoyed the sea scallops and salmon crudo. The onion soup was so salty that my mother could not eat it. She loves salt and she could not eat it. That was the only disappointing thing. The wine was good and the waiter was fantastic. I love the energy and feel of the place. My husband and I enjoy eating here. I don't know what happened to the soup that day. That is unusual."

  • "Good ambience & nice, understated decor. Appetizer sampler of shrimp tomatillo, lobster & crab selections were exquisite. I wish I could say the same about the filet. It had a charred outside and was flavorful but not worthy of the 44.00 price tag when compared to others that I have had at different restaurants. It lacked the juicy tenderness associated with a filet. The mashed potatoes and asparagus were good, not great. Sides are a la carte. Wines were excellent as was the service. I know Bobby is not the one in the kitchen cooking, but truly expected a more outstanding meal."

  • "This was my second visit so I brought friends. I was embarrassed by how pedestrian the meal was. My husband's fish was undercooked, mine was tasteless and my friend's pork chop was tough. The spinach under the fish was the best part of the meal. Service was cursory. I won't go back - there are much better restaurants at more reasonable prices nearby."

Note to diners: Only one piece of seriously tasty cornbread is offered per person. Make sure the bread basket gets passed!"

  • "My husband, step son and I enjoyed dinner at BA on our last night in NYC. First of all, let me say that we are from Louisville KY, a wonderful food city with an amazing amount of local/independent restaurant choices. Our server was very attentive without being intrusive and explained food and drink options. The bread basket was a hit with the corn sticks especially---remember, we are from KY! My husband had the lamb loin, charred carrots and quinoa/pea dish. My step son had the Philly inspired steak. I had the rabbit with corn pudding and kale. Our cocktails were great as was our wine choice. For dessert, we shared the German chocolate cake and it was impressive. If we are ever back in NYC, we will definitely return for a meal."

  • "My boyfriend and I are huge fans of Bobby Flay. We live in Cleveland, so unfortunately we've never been able to eat at one of his restaurants. Luckily, this past weekend we vacationed in New York City and immediately booked a reservation at Bar Americain. The whole experience was superb. The food was probably the best meals we've ever eaten. The entire wait staff was quick and extremely attentive. The tables were a bit close together but far enough apart that we could still have our own private conversation. We ordered the creme brulee for dessert which was delicious! Fingers crossed that Bobby will one day open up a restaurant in Cleveland!"
