  • "We had a great dinner on the outdoor patio. The heat lamps and complimentary blankets made it more than cozy. The drinks were of course awesome but the food was excellent as well! Enjoyed the Falafel with yogurt, the flat bread with pureed beets and goat cheese, and the pork loin and shoulder dishes very much!"

  • "We've really liked BA in the past, wanted to try it given new chef. We had sardines (didn't love), fennel and greens salad with pecans (good), asparagus appetizer (excellent). The Halibut was outstanding, with the perfect beurre blanc; we also had the Farinata (chick pea cake, it looked like a pizza with arugula and artichokes on it) which was original and delicious. For dessert - we had ice cream and sorbet. They were both extremely tasty; great texture and flavor on the ice cream and the accompaniments (berries with the ice cream and granita with the sorbets) elevated the flavors. We were impressed, and glad the meal finished on a high note. Known for its bar service, cocktails did not disappoint. Restaurant is NOISY."

  • "Plus side -- Service was very good. One of us mistakenly assumed "sangranita" would resemble sangria and when it absolutely did not, the server graciously allowed an exchange. The smoked salmon toasts were delicately smoked and melt in your mouth dreamy. The French toast with huckleberries and lemon cream was a generous portion of heavenly combinations. Minus side - Price of salmon toasts was high for the small portion. Even outside, noise from other diners was a distraction. Groups are so inconsiderate of other diners' attempts to have a quiet conversation."

  • "Made a reservation to take out of town guests to a good SF restaurant. Decided on Bar Agricole based on Eater 38. I will not be going again. The food was uninteresting and incredibly overpriced. The hosts were pleasant enough but the waiter could barely crack a smile and was completely uninformative when it came to the menu and food. Overall, a disappointing experience. I don't think I've ever had such awful service and uninspiring food in the city."

  • "I've been here a good number of times over the past couple years. The last 2 visits been somewhat a miss on the food. Good is food but not memorable. Perhaps it's the new chef... can't put my finger on why. Maybe it's what I ordered... but two times in a row?"

  • "I am largely vegetarian, but then I go through these periods where I crave fish. Last night I had the house smoked salmon appetizer with celery root (celery root needed more seasoning but it was nice with the salmon which was pretty salty), and the local sardine with potatoes. Super delicious, not too much food and I enjoyed everything. We got two desserts; a chocolate mousse thing, and a spearmint ice cream thing. Now, I am not a fan of spearmint most days (it reminds me of gum) but this was exceptional -- not sure how they did it, but it was refreshing and rich at the same time. The chocolate mouse/pot de creme thing actually paled in comparison."

  • "Bar Agricole is beautiful but it isn't what I like in a restaurant. Wait staff is friendly and helpful, no complaints there at all. My preference is to not sit so close to other tables that you listen to everything they say and they can hear you. Makes you uptight and monitor your conversation instead of relax and enjoy. Food was very oily and just ok. Not bad but nothing made you say "wow" Nothing to come back for. Limited selection of similar plates. Small portions are usually irritating but I was glad because nothing was good enough to want more. Wife felt the same way. 3 beers available, all bottled. again, beautiful restaurant but experience and food made it a one and done."

  • "Bar Agricole has long been our favorite brunch spot in the city. We told everyone we could about the amazingness of the food and cocktails. We were worried when we heard a new chef was taking over, but had the highest of hopes! Unfortunately I can no longer claim Bar Agricole as my favorite brunch. The food was fine, but was lacking in any interest. Everything was so basic, I felt like I could have had that same food for brunch anywhere else, which is not how I felt with the old chef/menu. The food used to be so special, it was something I would look forward to. I'll give them another chance, just don't know when it will be."

  • "9:30 reservation on a rainy Sat night and this place was empty and dead. Don't go for the scene but the food kept us happy. Not a ton of choice on the specialty menu but the brussel sprouts were ridiculously delish. Only thing is they were a bit snooty about their "cocktail forward" (as in fashion forward) drinks, and they had run out of vodka!"

  • "I've been here multiple times because the location is convenient for going to shows next door at Slim's. The look and feel of the place is great and suggests amazing food and drink should be coming. This is just not the case. The food is mediocre at best. What is most surprising is that the cocktail program falls short too. Each time I go I swear it will be my last."

  • "Service insanely slow - took an hour to get our appetizers and a VERY long time to get our 1st bottle of wine. We later ordered a 2nd bottle, only to find out later they were sold out of both that bottle and our 2nd choice. Then at least an hour went by before our cheese/dessert arrived, supposedly b/c the kitchen lost the ticket. Restaurant comp-ed one dessert. I had chosen the restaurant, and was embarrassed. The cod was much smaller than normal (probably 6 bites in total) and overly sauced. The risotto reminded me of savory oatmeal in consistency, but my friend was a fan. On the plus side, the deviled eggs were fabulous, the rabbit sausage dish pretty great, and our waiter was friendly. But overall an epic failure."

  • "I've been working my way down the 2013 Eater SF 38 list, and picked Bar Agricole as the place for a catch-up dinner with a good friend. She is an interior designer and we both loved the clean and modern decor. The interior is very spacious, with a downstairs seating area and also an outdoor patio area. LOVED the elegant bathroom too! The upscale but casual ambiance was the perfect setting for a dinner with one of your BFFs. I loved this place! The food was amazing and service was excellent from everyone... the host, the bartender and our server. I liked the denim napkins too :) They wiped the table down between courses and changed silverware (nice touch) and their timing was great with everything. I will be back!!!"

  • "My sister gave me a gift certificate for Bar Agricole so I decided to use it on a special Valentine's Day dinner. I had a hard time finding the restaurant because it was dark outside as well as inside the restaurant. In fact, it was so dark inside I practically needed a flash light to read the wine list and menu. I sat at the bar and my bar tender was very friendly and helpful in helping me select my apperitife and wine. The food was excellent as was the ambiance. The wine selection was excellent; but the prices were high."

  • "I took 4 clients here for a business dinner and we all loved it. Cocktails were some of the best I have ever had, I was really impressed. Our service was good, but they forgot to bring us 2 glasses of wine that we ordered, so the customers weren't thrilled, but the friendliness and knowledge of the staff was good overall. The apps were outstanding, and the side of spiced carrots were literally the best carrots I have ever had! Very very good food. A friend had been here prior and said the space was awesome and the food was just ok, but after this visit we both agreed the food was fantastic. Trout deviled eggs were yummy, I would go back for sure."

  • "My dish, the risotto, was fine, but not a $25 risotto. My husband really liked his food-the duck liver mousse and the swordfish, although he said it was a bit salty. The service was really bad, not sure if we caught it on an off night or what. The timing between the first and second course was really long, the server tried to take my husband's plate away prematurely about 3 times and then disappeared completely when we actually needed him. We then got the wrong check. Then on the check they have a 4% service charge, which they say is for health insurance. Really, 4%? Anyhow, we sat outside, which was lovely and I might recommend it for a drink and appetizers, but overall I thought it was overpiced for what it was."

  • "The minimalist space and concise menu allow focus on each dish, like an artist's blank canvas. Like art, some you like and some you don't. The grilled sardine appetizer is fantastic and popular. The monkfish suffered from being slighty overcooked and dry, and the brown butter sauce was too thick. Vegetable accompaniments rocked, however. The boullibase was outstanding, and the garlicky aoli a perfect foil for the shellfish and broth. Our main complaint was very poor timing of service; the kale salad (also too dry) was brought out on top of our appetizer, and the wine before we had even taken two sips of some great signature cocktails. Felt as if it were more important to turn the table than provide us with a great dining experience."

  • "Compared to other restaurants, Bar Agricole is not very good. The ambience is great and the service was fine. The food was surprisingly poor. Especially for the price. If the chef took a trip to other places in sf, he or she would be embrrassed. Our bouillabaisse had a strange flavor and the sausage was salty and lacked finesse. Cheese plate was forgetable."

And the kitchen is no less skilled. Delicious farm-to-table food, served in a relaxed style that allows for true appreciation. Well done!"
