Diner Reviews
  • "The cocktails were very unique. I had the Planter's Punch and the Daiquiri Deluxe; both were well-balanced and delicious. The menu has a lot to choose from. I really enjoyed the grilled radicchio and the carne crudo. The decor is minimal but handsome. The glass chandeliers are stunning."

  • "Bar Agricole is a beautiful spot with a modern aesthetic. Everyone from the hosts to the bartenders to the waiters are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The food was flavorful and very seasonal. Many vegetarian options, too. It was an overall delightful experience."

  • "1- Reception and organization was subpar. We were a few minutes late for our reservations. Host asked us to wait in the bar, but he forgot about us and gave our table to another party. After 30 minutes, we followed up and he apologized for forgetting about us. 2- Food and service- They comped the entrees since these slow to arrive. Interesting dishes but am not quite sure about the execution. 3- Wine & alcohol- excellent selection of wines and cocktails. Bartenders were very nice and friendly. 4- Great patio and bar scene."

  • "Ambience and location were spot on, food was excellent but portions were woefully small and we got pizza afterword."

  • "I still consider this one of the very top craft cocktail joints in San Francisco. Food quality remains high following the recent chef changes. Great place, but very very very loud. Don't go here to have an intimate conversation. Go for some of the best cocktails and food from folks who clearly take pride in their craft."

  • "Really awesome bar. Great space, modern, cool. However food portions were extremely small and seriously over-priced. Food quality was ok but not memorable. Service was ok, not outstanding. Not sure how to justify the prices. Maybe just go for drinks."

  • "Celebrated my husband's 50th birthday here last week. Cocktails, food and service were all outstanding. Everything was so fresh and flavorful. Loved that our server filleted the sand dabs at the table! Highly recommend."

  • "food was ok - overpriced for what we got -scrambled eggs, ricotta cheese and a mache salad. Cheddar biscuit was dry. Huckleberry scone was good. Annoyed that they ran out of bacon and the only other option was pork belly or rabbit sausage."

  • "Great food and awesome drinks. Service was only ok and table was sticky from previous drinks."

  • "A dining experience that was fairly disappointing. The fresh dishes were delicious but the squid was too greasy and the pork leg was too one note. Not worth the high prices."

  • "Had Fathers Day brunch here. as a new dad, the complimentary cocktail was much appreciated. they also accommodated our large stroller with no problems. the food was amazing. especially loved the pancetta scone."

  • "I really enjoyed all of the dishes. The desserts were incredible. The only drawback is it is very loud and it is hard to have a conversation with your dinner companions. "

  • "Every time I go there, Bar Agricole never fails to impress. The dishes are always top quality made with excellent ingredients, their cocktails are some of the best in the city and the service is always friendly and very willing to explain anything on the menu (which I usually need once or twice each time I go there! :-). And the ambiance is wonderful, I love how everything is handcrafted. I highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for a quality dining experience. "

  • "Overall my wife and I enjoyed this restaurant despite some problems. We went on a Sunday night. It was crowded and the tables are very close together, which intensified the noise level, so that it was hard to talk without shouting. We were disappointed that only two brands of bourbon whiskey are on the menu, neither of which we care for. The sommelier explained that these are the only brands that meet their criterion of control over their grain. We don't expect Kentucky distilleries to be raising grain, so the argument seemed ridiculous. The wine list is interesting but expensive, nothing under $36. We shared a lettuce salad and a tasty pork loin dish. We particularly liked the fact that they offer small/large versions of some dishes."

  • "From the smallest appetizer, a little plate of perfectly prepared sardines, to a small slab of moist wild salmon, to the half roasted chicken, to the pork belly, every dish had unusual combinations in which the tastes jived perfectly. The desserts were all spectacular bit especially the rhubarb tart. We asked for an herbal tea, and the server went outside to pick the herbs to brew! It was a wonderful experience. "

  • "Some of the items we ordered were great, while others were simply mediocre. The service was horrible. Our server seemed completely uninspired by the menu, bored by his job, and almost annoyed that the menu changed every night. A few things he asked about his said, "I don't know" but didn't offer to go figure it out. We had a few appetizer which were great, but the mains on the whole were unimpressed. The farinata - the one dish the server recommended - was so oily and seemed to cost twice as much as appropriate. There were four of us dining, and none of us would go back. "

  • "We eat out a lot and so have a good sense of restaurant pricing and value. We were pretty shocked. We came with a group of friends and ordered a lot of small dishes to share as well as some of the "larger" main courses followed by some desserts to share. The pricing is shocking: $32 for a plate of tomato sauce pasta (no meat), $40 for steak - 2 1/2" slices, and $47 for a whole chicken (ordinary roasted). The 1/2 portions are less and about a few dollars more than half the value. The meal was fine - the food good but nothing extraordinary warranting the pricing. I'm happy to pay for great food but I just don't see how they justify these prices. Cocktails were likewise very small although priced normally."

  • "We had dinner service for three. We received excellent suggestions on wine and food pairings. Portions are generous and food value is high. Presentation is good, tastes are vibrant, and the service we received, from the front desk to the bussers, was exceptional. Very much worth a visit. "

  • "Had brunch there on Mother's day... food choices in the menu was a bit limited. i don't know if the regular lunch or dinner menus are better. overall, it was a good experience with the place and service. "

  • "Loved our cocktails (don't let the "Sleepyhead" name distract you - it's a wonderful cocktail that won't put you to sleep!) and the food was really good and interesting. Not a ton of choices for dinner that appealed to our group, so we mainly stuck to apps and small plates, but it was a good experience for our group of four."

  • "Very modern from food to decor. Casual contemporary service, attentive but not formal. Food was brought out as it was prepared. We did order a little share-plate-ish so that may explain the haphazard feel. Each dish was truly delicious."

  • "Delicious food, great mixology, high quality service, beautiful interior design, elegant and well heated outdoor patio. One of my favorite places in the city. "

  • "Plus - great ambiance and decoration - good food (I recommend the chicken) and wine (at least the muscadet (white)) - satisfying service Minus - there is no real minus... But the food is a bit pricey. E.g. a small portion of pasta is $20 (the large being a little less than $40). They are good, and might be homemade. But After taxes and tips that's quite expensive for a small portion of pasta with a few mushrooms and English peas! "

  • "First time at BA and really enjoyed the food - fresh, seasonal ingredients combined to make amazing dishes without pretension. However, service was terrible. Appetizers were delivered and almost finished before the wine was delivered, trying to get our waiters attention was impossible without walking over to the wait station where he was spending most of his time on the computer, entrees were delivered separately with a 5 minute lag between. Had to ask multiple times and multiple staff to get our check. Friends who had been to BA many times for both personal and business meals mentioned how bad the service was. I would expect better service for the $200 we spent on dinner. "

  • "I've dined here a few times and enjoy the consistency of great food, friendly service and dining energy. As many restaurants feel the entitlement to be pretentious, Bar Agricole is not. Well done!"

  • "The space is amazing- ambiance was great, and our waiter recommended awesome drinks ! We really loved the pork tenderloin/shoulder and the spaghetti was delicious, but even the larger portion was pretty tiny. Loved the chocolate cake with mint ice cream and the huckleberry ice cream with wheatberry (?) cookie as well. Really nice experience overall, would definitely go back!"

  • "The first impression of the restaurant was we found it to be interesting and eclectic, yet energetic, warm, and inviting. Our party of four arrived early for our reservation and chose to be seated early. At first the attention we received was spot-on while providing menus, water and drinks right away. The server was friendly and informative. We had appetizers of flat bread and nuts with olives, all of which were all delicious (especially the flat bread). The 1/2 chicken, more flat bread, oysters, and asparagus were ordered for entree's. All were delicious but not memorable. Our biggest complaint was the "rushed feeling" received for us to finish up so they could turn the table. NOT GOOD!!! Because of this, we doubt we will return."

  • "We had a great dinner on the outdoor patio. The heat lamps and complimentary blankets made it more than cozy. The drinks were of course awesome but the food was excellent as well! Enjoyed the Falafel with yogurt, the flat bread with pureed beets and goat cheese, and the pork loin and shoulder dishes very much!"

  • "We've really liked BA in the past, wanted to try it given new chef. We had sardines (didn't love), fennel and greens salad with pecans (good), asparagus appetizer (excellent). The Halibut was outstanding, with the perfect beurre blanc; we also had the Farinata (chick pea cake, it looked like a pizza with arugula and artichokes on it) which was original and delicious. For dessert - we had ice cream and sorbet. They were both extremely tasty; great texture and flavor on the ice cream and the accompaniments (berries with the ice cream and granita with the sorbets) elevated the flavors. We were impressed, and glad the meal finished on a high note. Known for its bar service, cocktails did not disappoint. Restaurant is NOISY."

  • "Beautiful menu that sources local foods and makes for a delicious, thoughtful menu. The cocktails are also supercool. Killer combination of light and modern architecture in the restaurant itself."

  • "Plus side -- Service was very good. One of us mistakenly assumed "sangranita" would resemble sangria and when it absolutely did not, the server graciously allowed an exchange. The smoked salmon toasts were delicately smoked and melt in your mouth dreamy. The French toast with huckleberries and lemon cream was a generous portion of heavenly combinations. Minus side - Price of salmon toasts was high for the small portion. Even outside, noise from other diners was a distraction. Groups are so inconsiderate of other diners' attempts to have a quiet conversation."

  • "Made a reservation to take out of town guests to a good SF restaurant. Decided on Bar Agricole based on Eater 38. I will not be going again. The food was uninteresting and incredibly overpriced. The hosts were pleasant enough but the waiter could barely crack a smile and was completely uninformative when it came to the menu and food. Overall, a disappointing experience. I don't think I've ever had such awful service and uninspiring food in the city."

  • "I've been here a good number of times over the past couple years. The last 2 visits been somewhat a miss on the food. Good is food but not memorable. Perhaps it's the new chef... can't put my finger on why. Maybe it's what I ordered... but two times in a row?"

  • "I am largely vegetarian, but then I go through these periods where I crave fish. Last night I had the house smoked salmon appetizer with celery root (celery root needed more seasoning but it was nice with the salmon which was pretty salty), and the local sardine with potatoes. Super delicious, not too much food and I enjoyed everything. We got two desserts; a chocolate mousse thing, and a spearmint ice cream thing. Now, I am not a fan of spearmint most days (it reminds me of gum) but this was exceptional -- not sure how they did it, but it was refreshing and rich at the same time. The chocolate mouse/pot de creme thing actually paled in comparison."
