  • "We really enjoyed the Baonecci restaurant in north beach. The food was especially authentic, fresh, and delicious. The pizza crust was perfect, it reminded me of my days in New Haven, CT where the pizza is a cult following!"

  • "Be sure to have a reservation on a busy night. It's a very small, but cute place. Authentic Italian and it was very good. Would recommend!"

  • "The food here is simple and delicious. Salads are properly (not overly) dressed with a very tasty dressing, and the pizza was excellent. The service was friendly but not overbearing or forced, and the entire experience was wonderful. Will definitely return."

  • "I love this place, great pizza tastes just like the ones in Italy. Delicious house wine, always a pleasure to go here."

  • "This family run restaurant is a one and only. Every time we visit San Francisco, we come here at least once. The atmosphere, service, food is like stepping into a bistro in Italy! The pizza dough is impossibly thin. Ingredients delicious. Have to say that all we've had is pizza, but the other items on the menu look as good. Authentic salads, antipasti, pizzas. You really can't go wrong. And, the sons who work the front of the restaurant are so kind and happy. They make you feel at home. You will not go wrong coming here...skip the trendy restaurants with tables on the busy street. You will not be disappointed stepping into this little neighborhood gem. Thanks as always for a great meal!"

  • "one of the best restaurants in the city, such a hidden gem"

  • "I'm Italian and this is my favorite Italian restaurant in the Bay Area! Pizza is really good, antipasti are really good and authentic. Their Tiramisù is great and the service is really good: everyone is very nice and they always try to accommodate clients needs. When I come at Baonecci I definitely feel like at home!"

  • "Via an insider tip from a San Francisco local, I got the address of this cozy small family runned Italian restaurant. It is situated on the nice area around Greenstreet. Pasta is freshmade by the lady owner, who comes to check inside the restaurant if everything is alright! Her two sons serve at your table and are extremely friendly. I had dinner with my son, we both loved this place."

  • "Wonderful family from Lucca Italy, has set up terrific restaurant - food and ambience."

  • "I loved the entire experience! The wine, the food and the service - in that order!! Take your time, make a reservation and enjoy every morsel. I'm going back for lunch since it's my last day in town. Those who live near the Bay - you're luckier than you know."

  • "... if you like the thin crust-type... This is my third critic of my favorite Italian dive in North Beach in less than a year's time. Baonecci has never disappointed me, and everyone is just so friendly! I'd give a "high-5" on everything if it wasn't that the pies weren't so overpriced. I mean, a Margarita, the classic naked pizza, or the Pizza Napoli, another classic w anchovies and capers, so w v simple toppings on them, how can they cost 18.99 bucks? They should be 10 or less! It's just a dough! Maybe NB prices are hiked by the yuppies invading SF, but this still is a charming hole in the wall, totally un-fancy - take a look at Stefania's kitchen. This is all well and fine and part of the experience, but please, get your prices right!"

  • "Outstanding real Italian style think crust pizza. Excellent eggplant. Service is great, affordable wine list."

  • "It's a really cute Italian restaurant. It looks like it's owned and run by a family. The lasagna was my favorite - so yummy and the perfect portion size!"

  • "Excellent service/good size portions. We arrived early and had 2 additional diners with us and they immediately accommodated us."

  • "One important thing to note is that the restaurant does NOT serve "secondi piatti". It only serves appetizers, salads, pastas and pizzas. We both ordered pasta dishes which were very good, but also very expensive. The glass of red wine was served refrigerated, but at least they were willing to replace it with something else. The noise level was minimal on a Wednesday night, but only 3-4 tables were occupied. The dining room is small but charming in a rustic way. However, at $50 per person (one shared salad, two pastas, and three glasses of wine), I thought it was overpriced."

  • "If you want an entire Italian meal experience for a reasonable amount of money, this is the place. Thinnest pizza crust I have eaten."

  • "This restaurant was rated as a 4.5 star restaurant. I am not sure how it got this rating. The menu is pretty limited. Staff was friendly. Food was ok. Very casual restaurant. Very casual dining experience. This restaurant specializes in pizza."

  • "Baonecci is a good choice for a traditional Columbus Avenue area pizza and basic pasta meal, but not your choice if you're looking for a romantic place, fine dining, or ambience. It's a small place with very basic family restaurant furnishings and wall decorations like the family pizza parlor I grew up with in the northeast. Pizza and lasagna we shared were very good and also made fine leftovers for the next days lunch. For our-of-towners, Baonecci might make a better casual lunch destination that a special dinner occasion place. But if you're just looking for a traditional North Beach Italian joint with good food and local family restaurant fare, you can't go wrong."

  • "When we dine at BaoNecci, we are sublimely happy. Pizzas are perfection; we like the Monte Bianco, Salamino piccante e Salsiccia, and the Funghi Porcini Ed Arugola - we intend to taste each pizza offered on BaoNecci's menu. Contadina is next. Burrata and the Bresaola are great starters with creamy richness complementing the lean cured beef. The Affogato Tartufo and the Limone Sorbeto are our favorite endings to a delightful evening."

  • "BaoNecci is run by a very friendly family and have incredibly pizza! I've only tried the Bianco and Truffle Salami pizzas and they were phenomenal. Haven't tried anything else, but will definitely be going back."

  • "After reading the glowing reviews for this restaurant we were expecting great pizza and warm, friendly service. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed on both counts. The Margherita pizza was not worth the long weight - yes the crust was very thin and crisp but there was very little sauce or cheese in the topping and it tasted very bland. The service was not very gracious - they totally forgot our pasta order and did not refill our water glasses during the dinner. They barely acknowledged their mishandling of our order. With all the many Italian restaurants in North Beach to visit we will not return to Baonecci any time soon."

  • "I first ate Italian pizza in Sienna, Italy. Bingo! (big smile) This IS the authentic Italian-style pizza. I was only disappointed that the Italian "ambiance" did not carry through in their music. We initially arrived to the sound of Italian music but the mood quickly changed with some peppy American rock-in-roll (sad face). Since this restaurant takes such pride in their Italian heritage and cuisine, the music should be a reflection of that theme. All-in-all, the service was mediocre but friendly and the establishment warm and welcoming. I'll be back to try another pizza variety."

  • "Great meal...even the bruschetta was great and it's not tomato season! The family makes you feel so welcome and the pizza and eggplant were fabulous. We'll be back!"

  • "An extremely enjoyable and consistent experience. If you have traveled the small towns of Tuscany, this restaurant replicates that environment perfectly. They also offer a very traditional selection of Italian wines as well. If you want a traditional tasty Italian pie, this is the place to go."

  • "Excellent home cooking. Momma runs the kitchen, her son and other family members wait tables. Very friendly, warm atmosphere. Best bruschetta ever, thin-crust gourmet pizza, limited but certainly enough choices of main dishes. Delicious lasagna and eggplant parmesan. Taste for yourself."

  • "We were in San Francisco over Thanksgiving and dined at this great little restaurant. We arrived around 530pm and the place was empty. By the time we left, there was no tables available. The thin crust pizza is wonderful. Our favorite was a salami with truffle oil. Service was just right, attentive and prompt. Worth a visit in Little Italy."

  • "The atmosphere transported me back to Italy. You felt as though instead of Thank you , you should be saying Grazie. We got a pizza and it was delicious! The location is just off the main strip, easy to get to and some shops to visit while you are in the area. I would definitely return."

  • "The salumi pizza with truffle oil and argula is hands-down the best thin crust pizza we have ever had. The service was great, and the staff were personable. We are very much looking forward to returning soon."

  • "Visited this spot when we visited San Francisco. The pizza here is amazing. The truffle pizza is a must try as well as the eggplant dish. The service was quick and the family that runs this restaurant is very nice and accommodating. This is a must try spot!"

  • "This isn't a spiffy north-beach place that caters to tourists by having fancy decor and mediocre food. It's a very comfortable neighborhood place with lovely food. It's the kind of place that, if I lived nearby, I'd be a regular at."

  • "My recent dining experience at Baonecci felt like dropping into some kind of space/time warp and suddenly finding myself in an authentic small neighborhood ristorante right in Lucca with the same ambience, menu items and presentation one would find in Tuscany. What a sweet little gem of a place! Not fancy - but great food for people who love regional Lucchese cuisine in an authntic setting. The proprietor Walter and his family all work there, they make great food, and they make all of their guests feel completely welcome and at home. How can you beat that? I wish the owners every success - they totally deserve it."

  • "We love Baonecci and come here regularly to fulfill our thin crust pizza cravings. The truffle salami pizza is by far the best. This is a great spot for groups - great food that is good for sharing, reasonable prices, and walking distance from a number of bars for after dinner drinks. Wine list leaves something to be desired but otherwise love."
