  • "Nice and quiet and extremely delicious. Especially the honey/walnut shrimp..."

  • "Places like these are fantastic for dates. Get several dishes so you can sample the menu. A lot of excellent options."

  • "The had how are nice and fat, spicy chili paste is amazing. So much easier than going to ChinaTown and waiting for your favorite carts to come by."
    Dined on 8/11/2014
  • "This somewhat American-style dim sum provides the fare anytime of the day, and made to order. The food is great, and the service is superb. The only downside is the price -- is more expensive than a traditional Chinese dim sum restaurant."

  • "Our favorites , milk buns, taro balls, house fried rice don't forget juicy pork dumplings. Great meal, Great Service."

  • "When I come to LA, the first lunch my son and I go to is Bao for Dim Sum. Always delicious!! Only disappointment...they were out of the deep fried Taro, my favorite. Everything was excellent."

  • "Again large dumplings. Consistently good. Never fails to impress ppl new to dim sum"

  • "How badly do we need a first rate dim sum restaurant west of downtown? I'm desperate. So, when I discovered BAO I was excited only to be disappointed. The wrappings were all gummy and stuck to the steamers so getting them out required breaking the skins. An average lunch cost $50 for 2."

  • "Been here several times now, and every time it's delicious. The service is quick, the food is tasty, and the house drink specials are always good."

  • "It's not totally authentic but everything was great and we had an wonderful lunch for a group of 6. Everyone liked all of the plates. Service was a little slow."

  • "I have been to this restaurant a number of times. The first time I was pleasantly surprised to find a great dim sum restaurant. The people that I took enjoyed it as much as I did. Subsequent times I found that the food service and overall atmosphere was beginning to deteriorate. What once seeed to be unique became rather mundane. Although I still recommend this as a fun place ...I do feel that the food quality has suffered somewhat."

  • "We're big fans of dim sum brunch in Chinatown but now we have Bao House. In credible authentic dim sum - delicious, hot, fresh - but not just before noon. The har gow are fat with plump shrimp. The scallion pancake are good - not great. The chicken wings are terribly Chinese, but they are crispy. The Chinese broccoli was perfect. Spring rolls very good. And we got there at happy hour - so bargain prices for beer/drinks plus great food. It felt a little like stealing..."

  • "I went with a group of friends and we all had such a nice time. It was perfect for a stress-free group. The kitchen closed just before I wanted to order one more item, so the manager gave the five of us at my table free desserts. Such a great staff."

  • "Huge sized dim sum, and very fresh. Our guests who are local to the area were very pleased, and will definitely return for more."
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "Recommend to valet parking. Street parking is tricky because the area has a special residential restriction. I was ticketed for $68. Food was great."
    Dined on 6/22/2014
  • "Double the price of San Gabriel area dim sum places. Less variety and missed the delicacy of dim sum. Items should be small & pretty, not big with thick skins!"
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Exotic Asian style environment, waitress was nice, food was good but not authentic enough. The skin for dumpling was sooo thick that they were almost like a bun(bao zi), and they should be slightly brushed with oil(to make it healthier??) so as to be separated from each other(had a hard time picking up dumplings sticking tightly to a clump...). Snow mountain bun was thick as well. Good place to get fixed up, but if you are looking for something authentic you can skip...."

  • "Not only was the Dim Sum excellent and fresh, the menu had excellent choices also. We enjoyed the healthy red cabbage salad and the green beans. There was a perfect selection of dim sum. Our favorite was the shrimp. Don't miss the custard desserts. We can't wait to return. "

  • "We went to Bao on the way to a music event to downtown. It was 5 pm on a Wed. so, not busy. The food was hot, tasty and very nice, although the dumpling dough on the crystal shrimp dumpling was too thick. Juicy pork dumplings and baby bok choy with garlic were standouts. Everything else, very good--the house noodles, shrimp-stuffed eggplant, honey BBQ pork. Milk baos were a tasty dessert. Happy hour wine, $5 for Chardonnay that was a bit too sweet. Service was pleasant, and there was a Mandarin-speaking table. We would return--a nice option when heading to a downtown event, so long as you allow another 45 minutes for traffic on a weeknight. "

  • "We had a wonderful dining experience at Bao. I have been to an authentic dim sum house and even though Bao doesn't have the carts, don't let that fool you--it is first rate! I have tried many dishes, both steamed and fried, and every one was a winner! The flavors are delicate yet complex. The service is excellent and the food comes out piping hot. On two occasions I asked to sit near the window and was accommodated promptly. They have special pricing on some items at lunch, but I find it to be very affordable at dinner as well. It is worth the hour-long drive it takes us to get there!"

  • "Look, we LOVE the food at Bao. And the staff is always VERY nice. But on our last FOUR visits, service has been really, really rough. At least one forgotten dish at every one of our last four meals. 30 minutes between the delivery of some items. Disappearing servers for 10-15 minutes at a time. Long story short: the food is wonderful, the atmosphere is very nice, but we are getting fed up with Bao not getting the basics of service correct. "

  • "Overall quite a good experience. Hot and sour soup is exceptional, along with the honey mojito. Glazed walnut shrimp was excellent, and the shrimp dumplings were quite tasty, although a little doughy. The pea sprouts were good but nothing to write home about - i would try another vegetable dish next time. Ditto, the potato scallion dish not as good as ROC on Sawtelle. I can see going back. Very nice atmosphere. Our seat was probably the least nice, but it was still fine. Sit in the main room if you can."

  • "Unlike traditional dim sum houses where food makes the round and you select what you want, BDH allows you to order dim sum style dishes a la cart from a menu. The food is very good and the system works well. "

  • "Cant find better dim sum in this area. Love it. Pea shoots in garlic are fab. "

  • "We love dim sum, but don't have time at Lunch or Brunch. I often crave it at night, and don't have anywhere to go, even though we are in MONTEREY PARK!!! I don't remember how we heard about this place, but were going to be in the neighborhood & made a reservation. We loved everything about it. The food, the cocktails, & service were all excellent! There is something to be said for service, ambiance & aesthetics, and we would rather make the trek in traffic to Bao Dim Sum House than eat at one of the 'C'-Rated (Health Dept) Chinese restaurants near out house... besides that they don't have cocktails like these! The food here reminds me of the dim sum my Grandfather used to take me to in Hawaii when I was a kid, awesome!"

  • "When you don't want to across town for weekend dim sum this is closest thing to Chinatown you can get. The food is always delicious and the service great. They have complimentary valet so parking is easy. Prices are higher then what you would pay in Chinatown or Monterey Park but then again not driving 30-50 mins. So I believe that makes it worth it! Sunday $5.00 mimosas... count me in"

  • "Dim sum is breakfast food in southern China, so we make this a Sunday brunch tradition. Sadly, the ha gow has gone slightly downhill of late and the brown sauce on their tofu dishes is bland, but BAO still serves some of the tastiest dim sum this side of the Pacific!"
    Dined on 3/30/2014
  • "Food is delicious. Dim sum sizes surprisingly large and service was impeccable. The manager walked to each tale to check on the guests. I give it two thumbs up."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "I would say that this restaurant is no where near an authentic dim sum place. And for a place with average level food, service was horrible. Had to ask 20 times for hot tea and waiter kept staying in the back without coming by the table."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "We were craving dim sum but didn't want to go all the way to San Gabriel. Bao will do. Dumplings oddly large but good. Selection decent. Service friendly and fast. Overall good experience. Not amazing but will definitely return."

  • "Always wanted to go. Good portions for Dim Sum and tasty. Nice staff too."

    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "Had some concerns with a prior meal---odd presentation and just not quite up to par, I thought--but maybe that was just an off night because Bao was back to its amazing self. Not exactly traditional, ordered from wait people/not from a cart, but the taste and presentation of every bite was traditional and incredibly well done. Brought first time dim sum friends and they can't wait for a return visit---neither can we."

  • "The food here is super delish. All my favs, like hargow, pork Bao and perfectly cooked green beans in garlic. The honey walnut shrimp are a must order! And don't forget drinks - lychee martini is shaken to perfection."

  • "This spot is great for everything from a slightly-more-than-casual dinner with friends or family, to a cozy date for two. I love the atmosphere here and the staff is always incredibly attentive and accommodating. Definitely a go to spot when I'm showing visitors around the neighborhood."

  • "We love Bao and go there frequently. It's a great place to go with a group. You can order tons of different items, dim sum, noodles, soups, etc. and share family-style. Reasonably priced too - you order so many different items that you think the bill is gonna be crazy but it comes and it's totally reasonable. They have a happy hour menu that goes until 7p which is great too. You don't have to sit at the bar to order from the happy hour menu either. Great cocktails, too. We are never disappointed."

  • "No reason to eat here. Unless you're stuck. The salt and pepper calamari isn't bad. Other than that, skip it."
