  • "I have been to this restaurant a number of times. The first time I was pleasantly surprised to find a great dim sum restaurant. The people that I took enjoyed it as much as I did. Subsequent times I found that the food service and overall atmosphere was beginning to deteriorate. What once seeed to be unique became rather mundane. Although I still recommend this as a fun place ...I do feel that the food quality has suffered somewhat."

  • "We're big fans of dim sum brunch in Chinatown but now we have Bao House. In credible authentic dim sum - delicious, hot, fresh - but not just before noon. The har gow are fat with plump shrimp. The scallion pancake are good - not great. The chicken wings are terribly Chinese, but they are crispy. The Chinese broccoli was perfect. Spring rolls very good. And we got there at happy hour - so bargain prices for beer/drinks plus great food. It felt a little like stealing..."

The skin for dumpling was sooo thick that they were almost like a bun(bao zi), and they should be slightly brushed with oil(to make it healthier??) so as to be separated from each other(had a hard time picking up dumplings sticking tightly to a clump...). Snow mountain bun was thick as well. Good place to get fixed up, but if you are looking for something authentic you can skip...."

  • "We went to Bao on the way to a music event to downtown. It was 5 pm on a Wed. so, not busy. The food was hot, tasty and very nice, although the dumpling dough on the crystal shrimp dumpling was too thick. Juicy pork dumplings and baby bok choy with garlic were standouts. Everything else, very good--the house noodles, shrimp-stuffed eggplant, honey BBQ pork. Milk baos were a tasty dessert. Happy hour wine, $5 for Chardonnay that was a bit too sweet. Service was pleasant, and there was a Mandarin-speaking table. We would return--a nice option when heading to a downtown event, so long as you allow another 45 minutes for traffic on a weeknight. "

  • "We had a wonderful dining experience at Bao. I have been to an authentic dim sum house and even though Bao doesn't have the carts, don't let that fool you--it is first rate! I have tried many dishes, both steamed and fried, and every one was a winner! The flavors are delicate yet complex. The service is excellent and the food comes out piping hot. On two occasions I asked to sit near the window and was accommodated promptly. They have special pricing on some items at lunch, but I find it to be very affordable at dinner as well. It is worth the hour-long drive it takes us to get there!"

  • "Look, we LOVE the food at Bao. And the staff is always VERY nice. But on our last FOUR visits, service has been really, really rough. At least one forgotten dish at every one of our last four meals. 30 minutes between the delivery of some items. Disappearing servers for 10-15 minutes at a time. Long story short: the food is wonderful, the atmosphere is very nice, but we are getting fed up with Bao not getting the basics of service correct. "

  • "Overall quite a good experience. Hot and sour soup is exceptional, along with the honey mojito. Glazed walnut shrimp was excellent, and the shrimp dumplings were quite tasty, although a little doughy. The pea sprouts were good but nothing to write home about - i would try another vegetable dish next time. Ditto, the potato scallion dish not as good as ROC on Sawtelle. I can see going back. Very nice atmosphere. Our seat was probably the least nice, but it was still fine. Sit in the main room if you can."

  • "We love dim sum, but don't have time at Lunch or Brunch. I often crave it at night, and don't have anywhere to go, even though we are in MONTEREY PARK!!! I don't remember how we heard about this place, but were going to be in the neighborhood & made a reservation. We loved everything about it. The food, the cocktails, & service were all excellent! There is something to be said for service, ambiance & aesthetics, and we would rather make the trek in traffic to Bao Dim Sum House than eat at one of the 'C'-Rated (Health Dept) Chinese restaurants near out house... besides that they don't have cocktails like these! The food here reminds me of the dim sum my Grandfather used to take me to in Hawaii when I was a kid, awesome!"

  • "When you don't want to across town for weekend dim sum this is closest thing to Chinatown you can get. The food is always delicious and the service great. They have complimentary valet so parking is easy. Prices are higher then what you would pay in Chinatown or Monterey Park but then again not driving 30-50 mins. So I believe that makes it worth it! Sunday $5.00 mimosas... count me in"

  • "We love Bao and go there frequently. It's a great place to go with a group. You can order tons of different items, dim sum, noodles, soups, etc. and share family-style. Reasonably priced too - you order so many different items that you think the bill is gonna be crazy but it comes and it's totally reasonable. They have a happy hour menu that goes until 7p which is great too. You don't have to sit at the bar to order from the happy hour menu either. Great cocktails, too. We are never disappointed."

  • "There were six of us with a few who have difficulty hearing, especially when there is background noise. So we purposely reserved our table at 5 assuming we would practically have the restaurant to ourselves. Unfortunately, lots of folks decided to eat at Bao Dim Sum early. The restaurant was completely unprepared for such an early crowd. While it was noisy and we had to wait quite a while to get all our dishes, the staff really did everything in their power to compensate. Folks who normally clear plates helped to serve food. Everyone communicated with us and did whatever they could. Some food arrived promptly so there were items to eat. Staff turned a difficult situation into a positive one with the team effort and work ethic displayed."

  • "In spite of having a reservation, there was some confusion to be seated, had to wait about 10 minutes. From there on, it was very smooth. The waitress was very polite, empty dishes were cleared quickly, water refilled. The best part, of course, was the food and the price. I only like to eat small portions and a variety and this fits the bill ;o) Food was great, I did not realize that steamed buns were this sticky, so getting it out on to our plate was a challenge; the pan fried ones were more delicious. I would definitely go back and take my friends as well."

  • "Me and my fiancé went to Bao for Valentines Day. It was our first time and we loved it. The service was amazing and the food came out with in minutes. She loves the Hot and Sour soup and says it's the best she's ever had. The baked pork buns were by far the best Bbq pork buns I've ever had. I was not a fan of the spicy chicken dumpling. It had no taste and was not spicy. Past that I was extremely happy. Warning the ribs are not like asain ribs you would normally get. They come in a watery bowl. Next time I'll order the sliced pork. The desert was out of site. The staff is top notch and the managers check on you. I always love that. The owner was sitting at the bar. We had 6 things and the bill was $59. Well worth it."
