A word from Bannock
Bannock is a fresh market café and grab and go counter serving chef-prepared Canadian comfort foods. Centrally located at the corner of Queen and Bay in the Hudson Bay flagship store, Bannock provides all day meal options for shoppers, foodies, tourists and those who live and work downtown. Bannock's honest approach to food is rooted in familiar, wholesome ingredients that are reflective of Canada's rich regional and cultural diversity. The name 'Bannock' honours the iconic round flatbread that was first brought to Canada through Scottish explorers and traders, and adapted by indigenous people and settlers. Bannock is featured throughout the entire menu including sweet breakfast breads, fresh artisan sandwiches, burgers and pizzas, as well as accompaniments to soups, salads, main courses and desserts.Continued

  • "Bannock serves local food and gourmet Canadian specialties at a very reasonable price. I brought my parents there for them to try what is Canadian food outside of burgers and poutine. They loved it! Very nice place for a chill get together on special occasions, with family or friends. Too bad that the noise level gets very loud when the place is full."

  • "My wife and I chose Bannock for a pre-theatre dinner and found our dining experience to be very relaxing and enjoyable. We chose our meal from their Summerlicious offerings and the meal was amazing. We also have a bottle of their private label Biff's red wine and it was also very tasty. The staff here are very friendly and attentive and fun to be around. Thank you Bannock for a very enjoyable start to our evening."

  • "SO disappointed today @ the service I received at Bannock. I know waiters are busy with summerlicious, so I didn't expect great service, but still. Our waitress was friendly, but the person who served the dishes shoved the mains down on our table BEFORE we were even done with our appetizers. Since the restaurant is packed, tables for 2 usually only had space for well, 2 dishes. My mother was forced to finish her appetizer fast so she can make room on the table. We were also given the bill before we even asked for it, yet it was well past 3pm, and there's no one waiting for a table- so why shoo us out? We didn't overstay either, it was only a bit after an hour since we first sat down. It's impossible to recommend this place to anyone."

  • "My group and I arrived quite late as they were coming from Niagara Falls. Nonetheless, the staff at Bannock accomodated us despite the fact that we were the very last guests. We chose this venue because of the location and it was participating in Summerlicious. The three course meal was delicious. This was my third time dining here and the food was impeccable like every other time that I had been. Exceptional venue for food! I ordered the beets with smoked slamon and hummus - the flavours were incredible! The meatloaf with mashed potatoes was superb and the bread pudding for dessert was magical! Highly recommend Bannock for reunions, date nights or even if you are dining solo."

  • "The restaurant itself is nothing to special but the food and service are outstanding. Very creative menu items and great cocktails from the bar. Its not very decorative and doesn't really have a particular mood or ambience. I would definitely go again."

  • "Service was bad. We didn't even finish our starter as the main course was already being served. They just put is on the table!"

  • "Service was good but mains were salty, too damn salty."

  • "Casual, hip downtown lunch Nice break from shopping, with a vibrant atmosphere even after the lunch crowd"

  • "Had the duck poutine pizza, it was delicious. Managed to finish the whole thing but it's massive, easily able to split it 4 ways. Great ambiance to the place and reasonable menu prices, definitely have to go again."

  • "Nothing particularly wrong with the place, would recommend for lunch."

  • "We had dinner there with my parents during the week - for Summerlicious. Once again the menu exceeded our expectations. The service was great and very accommodating to our time restriction to be out before the theatre began. Great experience and a definite recommendation. We will be back again soon I'm sure."

  • "Bannock met the standards that all O&B restaurants have. Great ambiance, food and service. This particular O&B is great for lunch, whether you're looking to sit down for an hour or two, or grab something to do. Service is excellent and food is always amazing!"

  • "Made a reservation for Summerlicious and the staff were all extremely friendly, knowledgeable, polite, and well-mannered. Usually restaurants don't treat teenagers well, but we were treated all the same here. Although the restaurant is a bit small (which might be difficult for large groups), the ambient was warm and friendly. The food was extremely AMAZING! Had the Dredgeman's Fish Pie and it was the best pie I have ever had, still craving it now! Price wise, it was a great deal too! I would definitely visit again, and definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to try this place out!"

  • "My friend and I had a good time. Food was good and the summerlicious price ($15) was great. I would go back there for lunch."

  • "The salad was very good, pickled watermelon was something that I had not tasted before and I liked it very much. For main dish I had their fish pie which I did not like very much, it was more like mashed potato pie and I did not like the taste. For desert I had apple fritter which tasted great and I recommend it."

  • "Service was really slow compared to usual. The appetizer and dessert were so so but the fish pie was absolutely delicious. Id rather order off the menu."

  • " What an amazing summerlicious lunch! My fresh fruit Mojito was so refreshing. The staff was so helpful. Then we had an amazing beet salad with a twist, seafood pot pie and apple fritters for dessert. Wow! We will definitely make it a regular!"

  • "The food was amazing!!! I've always walked by and have been wanting to try Bannock for a long time. It was definitely worth the wait!! Our server Marcel was great. He knew EVERYTHING on the menu and was a blast to chat with. He was soooo funny and had my friend and I in tears!!!! Great experience. I can't wait to try their brunch!!!"

  • "I went here for the Summerlicious menu for my birthday was not disappointed. I was with people who are sometimes hard to please in terms of food as they do not always eat everything, but there was something for everyone. Our waiter, Marcel, was absolutely amazing. He described each dish perfectly and was ready and willing to answer any questions we had. It's been a while since I've come across such knowledgeable and personable staff and left feeling satisfied and overall really happy. Thank you Bannock, for making my birthday dinner an absolute success!"

  • "Bannock had, by far, the best service I have ever experienced at any restaurant. Although, the food was way too salty, dessert was delicious and when we had a problem with one of our orders the waiter was more than happy to help us. Gave one of my friends soup that was on the house, because she had to re-order. Definitely would go again, but maybe just for the amazing service and dessert"

  • "We tried Bannock as part of Summerlicious and it was by far the best meal we've had through that program this year. We will definitely be returning at another time. The food is comfort Canadiana and all very well done. Wait staff were impeccable and incredibly friendly. Cocktails were the only average portion of the meal. Felt they were from a mix vs hand crafted, but next time we'll just have wine. Overall an incredibly delightful meal."

  • "Went in for Summerlicious lunch menu and for the most part, I was pleased with the appetizer and dessert but the main course was slightly disappointing. I had the Bulgogi Hawaiian Pizza and although it was okay, the crust could have been done better. The portion size for each course was decent and the place itself is lively and I enjoyed the atmosphere - it seemed like a popular lunch spot. The service was average, they were there when you needed them and they topped off our water without us asking but other than that they weren't really engaging or friendly in any other way. I would go back to try their regular menu to see how that tastes though - especially the duck poutine pizza which I saw being served a couple of times."

  • "Enjoyed summerlicious here for dinner. Hummus/beet salad, seafood pie, dulce de leche apple fritter. Yumm. Avoid the apple fritter if you're thinking you'll get apples. It's basically a deep-fried donut balls."

  • "Service was great but food was ok. Great ambience and not too loud that a conversation can't be heard."

  • "My spouse and I tried Bannock for the first time during Summerliscious for lunch. The food was deliscious! Great portions for the cost. I had the beef bulgogi hawaiian pizza, which was spicey and unique. My spouse has the peameal bacon melt, which was very filling and tastey as well. The apple fritter dessert was good, not great. The bread pudding was also great. Overall a great atmosphere, but it was rather loud and it is located on a busy intersection, so dining outside isn't ideal."

  • "i love the convenience of making an on-line reservation, but hate it that at Bannock they call you to saying you need to call back to "confirm" - might as well have just called them in the first place. When i do an on-line bank transaction the bank doesn't make me come in or call to confirm, not sure why these guys think it makes sense and is necessary"

  • "first time eating at Bannock during Summerlicious. Portions were plentiful, the spelt fusilli wasn't very good but three of us enjoyed the fish pie. Apps were very good; desserts were just average. Service was friendly and quick and I loved the decor."

  • "I suppose it was summerlicious lunch, so of course at Bay and Queen it would be a little bit louder.. However, the service was also just fair. Our server just didn't seem to want to be there."

  • "Went with a group of 7 for Summerlicious and had the beet salad, the Canadian Bacon sandwich, and the ice cream/sorbet. Everything tasted amazing and I am a picky eater! I think the ingredients must be very fresh since each item (beet, cabbage on the sandwich) tasted exceptionally flavourful. Someone from our group was vegan and they were able to accommodate that, including dessert! The vibe was relaxed and trendy, but I would not think of it as a "dining" sort of venue since you walk through sort of a "take out" area before getting to the seated area."

  • "The place was very noisy, but was of beautiful decor. I had a salad and fish pie for my meal which was impressive. The bread pudding for dessert was a bit disappointing but i'm no connoisseur of bread pudding. The waitress wasn't the happiest person in the world. I'm of the age that hasn't entered the workforce yet, and I went with another friend of the same age. There was mostly business men and women eating there and I felt she gave off a condescending vibe because we were so young."

  • "Came in for lunch during the first Sunday. Quite busy as expected and service was slow bringing food out but they were attentive with replenishing the water. Appetizer were salt baked beets and chilled caesar. Nothing too fancy or out of this world. Mains were the hawaiian pizza and bacon melt. Huge portions, commendable for that. No need for dinner that day, however the pizza was mighty spicy and I could handle spice and the melt was mediocre. Dessert was blackberry ice and bread pudding. All in all the take away was service was slow but to be expected and for $15 still a damn good deal despite less than inspiring quality considering food court food isn't much cheaper."

  • "This was a great restaurant to discover. It didn't have a view or a big space, but it did great with what it had. An open kitchen concept that lets you watch them prepare food as you walk in. I came here for summerlicious, the service was great, food arrived, but my main course fell a little short. It was a Fish pie, but the pie was cracked, as well as the top of the pie slid to the side. The presentation was a bit disappointing. Good thing they had an amazing dessert. The sorbet was good on a numerous notes, however, the bread pudding had a weird flavour that did not mix well with the peanut butter chocolate sauce."

  • "I always pass by Bannock when I commute on Queen, but finally decided to go try the food when I found out Chef Miheer Shete, Chopped Canada champion, was working there. Ordered from the Summerlicious menu and had a spectacular time! Smoked salmon and salted beet salad to start, dredgeman's fish pie for a main, and an apple fritter for dessert. Great atmosphere for a casual meal, but fancy enough to enjoy wine. Visually appealing decor and terrific service."

  • "I did not like the desert selection. It was too basic and also the Apple Fritter was sort of hard and too sweet."
