A word from Bannock
Bannock is a fresh market cafe and grab and go counter serving chef-prepared Canadian comfort foods. Centrally located at the corner of Queen and Bay in the Hudson Bay flagship store, Bannock provides all day meal options for shoppers, foodies, tourists and those who live and work downtown. Bannock's honest approach to food is rooted in familiar, wholesome ingredients that are reflective of Canada's rich regional and cultural diversity. The name 'Bannock' honors the iconic round flatbread that was first brought to Canada through Scottish explorers and traders, and adapted by indigenous people and settlers. Bannock is featured throughout the entire menu including sweet breakfast breads, fresh artisan sandwiches, burgers and pizzas, as well as accompaniments to soups, salads, main courses and desserts.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "The attention to decor, establishing a warm and inviting decor, is misleading as to the quality of the food great menu, but the flavours were sadly bland. My chicken burger was fine, but greasy, the saving grace of it was the avocado on it. The Taro chips and sweet potato fries tasty as was the venison chili. The other burgers, inclusive of mine were lackluster. Likely a good spot for post shopping lunch that seemingly caters and appeals to the retail sales folk after work crowd, but definitely not an haute spot."

  • "I met a coworker for lunch and enjoyed it so much, I'm going to meet another there in a couple of weeks. Can't think of a better recommendation."

  • "This place rocks. Not only is it pretty much canadian everything but it's also resonabley priced and the staff are probably the best trained and most attentive servers and cooks I've ever seen. Will go again and again and again!!"

  • "We went to Bannock as we have been before and were happy with our experience. It's good because we have vegetarians our our group. Unfortunately the dish (mushroom gnocchi) was very salty, too salty, which detracted from the experience. The soup of the day was also pretty salty. Did not enjoy the meal because it was overpoweringly salty. Otherwise, the rest of the evening was great. Very good service, relaxed, yet busy atmosphere, and good variety and creativity on the menu."

  • "My wife and I went there for dinner. Both of us are vegetarians and we loved the two vegetarian items (Mains) on the menu. Server explained the menu thoroughly. There was ample space between tables so that people don't bump into chairs while getting around. Only thing we didn't like was the donut on the dessert menu!."

  • "I really like their service. Also online reservation system is really good and easy. I was happy to be there."

  • "Loved the the atmosphere of this place - comfortable and fun. I definitely would return to try more dishes - mostly everything in the menu sounds interesting. The free-run turkey burger is really good; the warm s’mores pie is delicious. Service was on point and friendly. Our server, Marcel, was outstanding! He was so descriptive with the menu and his recommendations. Had a very pleasant dining experience here."

  • "Bannock is a vibrant restaurant with unique creative and delicious meals. Great place for a group dinner celebration. Service was friendly and very efficient. Highly recommend."

  • "The customer service was great and the food was well done but the ambience was the highlight to a perfect lunch with the one I love. Can't wait to go back and try more food on the menu."

  • "The food was amazing. I had the grilled cheese with a side of sweet potato fries that were absolutely perfect. The sandwich was perfectly paired with a spicy tomato sauce. Fantastic value, amazing meal in the heart of downtown. A Bay Street must."

  • "Staff is very friendly. Food is consistently good. Will definitely keep going back! Great combination of seasonings on food."

  • "I had reserved a table at Bannock, as colleague recommended it, due to proximity and quick service. I added a request to be seated at the best or better group table in the restaurant - this was pleasantly accomodated! Loved the privacy and location of our table. Service was quick and the server was very knowledgeable. Two diners ordered the 'tofurkey burger' which they loved. The other three ordered the mushroom gnocci dish from the "meatish" section of the menu. This item wasn't the greatest - a little bland and lukewarm. I would still like to go back and try something else on the menu and still recommend to a friend but not that dish!"

  • "Service was great, presentation was really nice but the food was way too salty!"

  • "The restaurant was busy and full for a Tuesday night. Our waiter was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and wine selection. The portions were generous. I had one of the specials - beef stroganoff. Good flavour but not memorable."

  • "The food was a bit salty and the pan seared tuna was over cooked. I have dined here before and had a better experience."

  • "This was our second visit to Bannock, however, we have been to most O&B restaurants and enjoyed them all."

  • "The atmosphere, while busy, was quite nice. The waiter who came by the table quite quickly and throughout the meal was attentive, perhaps a bit too attentive. The food came in a reasonable time, and we had starters to begin. My wife had the pickerel steamed buns and they were really good. And a generous portion as well. I had a very good Caesar salad. For mains, my wife had the trout which was good, but not great.I had the tourtière with ketchup and roasted root veggies. The tourtière was very good and also a good size. The ketchup, though, was delivered in two of your standard foil punches covered in the sauce that was added to the veggies. Messy and weird. Overall though, it was a good dining experience and we would try it again."

  • "From the first taste of delicious and interesting salads we were hooked and ready for a dining experience. The waiters were very attentive on a busy Friday evening and catered carefully to a lactose intolerance. Bannock was mated perfectly with the chili. The trout was nicely presented. Finally a dessert of a lemon tart followed by good cups of coffee topped the evening off perfectly. We will be back."

  • "Down town place with cheerful and energetic ambiance for a quick and enjoyable lunch. Good selection of tasty Canadian/Continental fare, excellent service by hostess ( got the type of table I had specified in my reservation ) and server ( Daisy ). Can be recommended to any shopper, tourist or office staff, looking for an upbeat informal dining experience."

  • "My friend and I loved the mac & cheese with broccoli, peas and spinach. It was delicious and just the right amount. Great service. There were lots of other enticing items on the menu. We were there for lunch, and the service was friendly and efficient and quick without being rushed. It's a great central spot and ideal for lunch and after work. It's definitely on the "must return to" list."

  • "Excellent food. Great for my group of 6, everyone liked it and raved about the food. Service was gracious and they were absolutely fine with us bringing in our own birthday cupcakes. No problem to get separate bills. They even gave me a cup of their delicious blueberry sorbet with a candle for my birthday! Best part was, I left my bag with all my presents at the table, and they called me to come back and get it. Lovely. Will definitely be back."

  • "Met some friends for lunch at Bannock. It was everyone's first time eating here. The selection of food was quite good. My ceasar salad had a bit too much pepper but otherwise quite good. My friends loved their duck fat potatoes and tourtière which had some kick. My margherita pizza was disappointing. Staff was friendly, well informed and with great timing. Ambience was nice. I would highly recommend Bannock."

  • "The fish cakes were great but the pasta special was really average. I had high expectations given it was an O&B restaurant.. There isn't much to choose from around the Eaton's Centre though, so it's good if you are in a pinch and don't want a big chain restaurant."

  • "Bannock is a great restaurant but also very accessible. I use a walker and the restaurant and washrooms are totally accessible. Great food - great variety and easy to get to and enjoy your meal."

  • "Great food and restaurant but packed in like sardines. I was on business lunch and couldn't have conversations as you are literally sitting right on top of the table beside you. Lost like a food court if not ever more crowded."

  • "Bannock was a good restaurant. There were some interesting dishes, all with the usual O&B flare but nothing really stands out. The warm cauliflower salad could have benefitted from more than the three anchovies on the plate. The Haddock and shrimp cake was okay, but, not outstanding and the gnocchi was bland. One problem was that the venue was very loud when more than half full, making a conversation difficult. It is a good restaurant, but, not great by any means."

  • "As a place for Comfort Food, Bannock is also a place for comfortable food. It has a casual, relaxed atmosphere with a bit of fun in the décor and offers very good hearty fare. While we could not quite stretch to have the Poutine Pizza our food was slightly out of the ordinary, delicious and well prepared. I can't wait to see what their summer menu will be like."

  • "I very much enjoyed my meal, service was good and the food was pretty good too. I don't think it was anything outstanding (there was a lot of fat on my steak sandwich that I had to take off) but it was very tasty nonetheless. Price was fair and I would recommend it for any slightly romantic or fancy occasion in the city."

  • "I had the Chef's special of Beef Cheek on semolina with Kale. Amazing texture, just the right saltiness and a great winter meal. Canadian in Manhattan cocktail is a must."

  • "The bannock vegi sandwich was delicious. I loved the bread (although the cream made it a bit heavy for a vegi sandwich). Friendly staff."

  • "I had another great experience at Bannock for a Friday night dinner with a work colleague. Great comfort food, good atmosphere, and very attentive service. This is the fifth time I've dined at Bannock and it never disappoints. I would recommend very much to try this restaurant."

  • "There are so many great food to try. However I always go for the Grilled Cheese Sandwich. One of the best in town. I always feel welcome and comfortable. It is one of my top 5 places in downtown."

  • "Food is fresh, wine list is diverse. Though trying a tad too hard with the whole Canadian theme. You don't need to put maple syrup in everything haha."

  • "I have been here a few times now and have ordered different items each time and each time I have been thrilled with the food! I have been to some of the best restaurants in the city and internationally, and Bannock rates right up there. If you like GOOD food, you must this restaurant!"

  • "Food is excellent. Great services especially from the General Manager Chris. would recommend this restaurant to friends."

  • "I chose Bannock because they take reservations for Sunday brunch, which many restaurants don't. They easily accommodated our group of 10 people at a large, communal table at the back and we were seated at our reservation time without delay. Lots of great choices on the menu made it difficult to decide what to have and I would go back simply to try some of the other brunch options. Reasonable prices, and adequate (but not stellar) service makes it a good choice for brunch. I recommend the Eggs Bannodict which is a deconstructed version of the standard dish into more of a breakfast pizza. Our group loved the fried bologna; the smoked and scrambled, and an arctic char special that day. Would go back next time I'm in Toronto."
