Diner Reviews
  • "Food was excellent with in-your-table grilling. Food arrived within minutes after ordering (which makes sense since we're doing the cooking). But the service was absent with few check-ins and no refreshing of our drinks."

  • "Me and my party absolutely loved this restaurant and WILL be returning and have already recommended this place to family and friends. ..keep up the great work"

  • "Maybe the negative reviews about the service was because it was restaurant week, but we had a fantastic dinner here the other night with a party of 8, adults and kids. The service was quick and pleasant, and the food came out lightning fast. All of the food was delicious - the japchae was the best my sisters and I ever had! (and we're Korean!)"

  • "Great food. Could use an interior makeover. Odd bathrooms."

  • "The food was excellent, the waiters were very friendly and helpful. The service was fast, and the meal portions were very satisfying. Overall it was an excellent dining experience. I would definitely come back again."

  • "Very good food. Menu is nice and had variety. Awesome for restaurant week. Good size portions and nice cocktail list."

  • "Went here for restaurant week dinner- great time, great food! Some of my party were running late, so we enjoyed $5 Happy hour. Cocktails not strong, but tasty for 5 bucks. When the party was in full they seated us quickly. Not necessarily the friendliest service, but attentive. Food- yummy! Great portion for restaurant week! didn't feel cheated at all, which sometime you do some places for RW. We ordered an extra seafood pancake which was tasty, not too oily like it can be.We all had BBQ although In hindsight we should have each ordered a diff meat, since it was so much for each person. Could have given more variety of the sidedishs(banchan?), only 3 given, but we did have leftover meat and rice. Will def return for regular menu!"

  • "I brought my friends who tried Korean food for the first time. We ordered Korean BBQ, which is great, but service was poor. Food servers just take out our dishes which we even did not finish. also, when they put our food on tables, they kind of threw dishes on the table. One important error of BBQ here is that they did not give tones to handle meats. I should use chopsticks, which is not convenient to grill meats. What if your customors are not able to use chopsticks at all? Even I am very familiar with using chopstick, it was not easy to flip meats on the grill. What a laborious work is.... In addition, it is not easy to check if meats were ready to eat because the place was so dark."

  • "We went for lunch during Restaurant Week. The atmosphere at Bann is spare and elegant, the waiters are charming and cheerful. The noise level -- at least in the afternoon -- is merciful. My spicy chicken wing appetizer was very good but not spectacular. The main courses were another matter. While the portions were copious, the overall effect was surprisingly bland. My friend put her seafood noodle dish aside after several bites, and declared it fairly devoid of taste. My Bann noodle dish had the promised taste of sesame and soy, there was not much more to say about it, other than that the beef was slightly tough. This is a lovely restaurant, close enough for B'way shows. If only the food could be more exciting, it could be a mecca!"

  • "The food was amazing and plentiful. I would not expect so much food during restaurant week, but based on the servings and the amazing service we got, we will definitely be returning once restaurant week is over."

  • "We arrived on time with a party of 6, then waited over 40 minutes to get anything more than water while a neighboring table of 4 women (who arrived after we did) and another table on the other side of us were served course after course. When I complained, the waiter blamed it on the kitchen. (I suspect our order never made it there, and the servers who finally arrived with the food were obviously not given chair numbers, since they had no idea who had ordered what.). Eventually we were offered a free bottle of overpriced wine as compensation. (Twice what it costs at the liquor store is okay. Three or more times is definitely not.) A pity because the food was generally very good. Even desserts (except for dry carrot cake.)"

  • "The bbq was amazing and the short beef rib bun was to die for."

  • "Usually a Resturant Week menu is quite minute compared to the normal menu, not here. The portions for Korean BBQ were GREAT. I am looking forward to dining here in the future. Love the location. Great place for a dinner date or group."

  • "Went here for restaurant week. Food was great! Service was ok. Restaurant week menu is well worth it. We pick three different appetizers and all did a Korean BBQ item. Well worth it and recommended! Great happy hour also!"

  • "I've been here several times and the last time I was here, the matre'd with thick rim glasses and colorful trousers was obnoxiously rude, not only did he walk by all the tables staring at every single table and item on the table like a communist dictator, but he rudely and hastily cleared like our table all while knocking his tray on my head. I turned twice to see what was that hitting my head and I realized it was his tray. He proceeded to give me the Kim Jong Il look of distain, and wasn't even apologetic about it. In America, its called "sorry", I guess this dictator has his own agenda. The rest of the staff were very helpful and kind, and the food is amazing, the only downside is bypassing the matre'd to get to a pleasant meal."

  • "Stopped by here for an early bite before seeing Book of Mormon, which is a block away. Restaurant Week menu was an added plus. Crepes with leek and crab were awesome. Loved the Korean Bar-b-q. Waiter gave great instructions on how to cook it. Great spot for a pre-theater dinner."

  • "Apparently, if you're not a man or a tourist, you will not get service here. As two women eating for lunch, we were totally ignored by service staff, who were rude. The menu looked pricey, after I finally found one on my own."

  • "Mixed results on the food: two orders of pretty decent BBQ, one of the dae ji kalbi entree that was pretty good, and another seafood entree that was distinctly mediocre. Service over two visits varied from inattentive to obnoxious. Overall, the prices are considerably high for this level of food quality, let alone service."

  • "This was only the second time I've eaten Korean food and the waiter took us through the menu and made great suggestions. I'll definitely be back for more soon."

  • "My fiance and I had a great time at Bann Restaurant!! The food was delicious and plentiful! We each ordered BBQ entrees and split two appetizers. By the end of the meal, I was completely stuffed. I had never cooked my own food at the table and that was a fun, unexpected surprise. I highly recommend eating here."

  • "Came here on recommendation of friend. Had a great meal, service was attentive, and we enjoyed grilling our own meals at the table."

  • "My boyfriend and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary at Bann and I could not be happier with our experience. We were seated promptly, our drink order was filled in a very quick manner, and all of our food came out at the perfect time. We never had to search for our waiter because he was always readily available and very attentive. The atmosphere was chic and modern, and the BBQ was outstanding. We will definitely return for another noteworthy meal and will recommend Bann to all of our friends and family. Thank you!!"

  • "The food was terrific but...the frozen air conditioner directly on your neck and the high level of noise that you cannot hear a word of your friends at the table male this place a nightmare dinner"
    Dined on 7/25/2014
  • "Get good Korean food, without having to go to K-Town. Service was good. Wide selection of BBQ choices. Selection of small dishes not as many as would be in K-Town but still worth the trip."

  • "It was an interesting experience for my girlfriend and I. It was a surprise dinner cause I remembered her mentioning she wanted to try Korean BBQ. She enjoyed it and I got to open up my taste buds to flavorful good. Would def go here again!! Ps. Ambiance was beautiful"

  • "We ate there during restaurant week and regretted getting the set meal for restaurant week. The meat for the bulgogi was tough it does not look like the usual bee that you get during regular times. The fish that my friend ordered was dark it look like it was heavily coated in soy sauce and starch. I have been to this restaurant before and I thought that it was decent before. All the good that evening just did not taste right."

  • "Our dining experience was good -- not great, but good. We expected a bit more authenticity in the food; especially seeing the menu (we ordered from the regular menu). From the apps (ex: mandu dumplings, which had little of the Korean flavors we were seeking, though they were nevertheless very tasty) through the shared main, it all seemed a bit "tamed" for the Western palate and therefore a little lackluster. This is not to say the food was bad -- it was very tasty and nicely prepared -- so in the world of Korean dining in America it was good. But from the people who brought us Woo Lea Oak from years gone by, I expected it to WOW us with Korean flavors and authenticity. It missed the mark there, though we still had an enjoyable meal."

  • "Came here for Restaurant Week for dinner and was seated immediately. The servers were very attentive, filling our water glasses before they were even half empty and often checking on us to see if we were doing well. The waiter answered all of our questions and even gave suggestions of what was good. Quick service. Cooked our own food which was a great experience for a first time but next time I will let them cook it because it took rather long. The portions are a good size and for the Korean BBQ the sides seem endless. If you run out of something they will bring you more. I liked the ambiance and the decor. Would definitely come back to try their happy hour. Cute little spot in Midtown for Date Night, Girls Night Out or Family Dinner."

  • "Great food! Horrible maitre d. Needs to be more friendly and not so rude."

  • "I really enjoy the food at Bann, but the owner/manager can be borderline rude in that he rushes you out as soon as you pay your check and then expects you to continue to patronize the restaurant by having a drink at the bar."

  • "We had never been to Bann before and went with a groupon for the first time a few days ago. The restaurant's ambience looked nice. Food was a bit expensive but tasty. What we liked the most was the service. The waiter was very attentive and didn't treat us any differently because we had groupon. We were not sure how much food to order and asked for his opinion. He didn't try to sell us more food than we needed. It turned out what we ordered was just right for us. We appreciated that. He also showed us how to use the BBQ and how to make a wrap with veggies, meat, and sauce. Their BBQ equipment was clean and non-smoke. We had fun experience cooking at the table. Overall, we had a nice time at Bann."

  • "We had a pre-matinee lunch at Bann - delighted with how it worked out. Having just returned from a trip to Korea, we craved the pickles, the soups, the tender meat and fish, the delicious kimchi. We both had bento boxes, one with fish and one with kal-bi beef. Everything was absolutely delicious and beautifully prepared, and it was a nice calm, quiet place to relax amid the bustle of the theatre district. We well definitely return."

  • " This place is great for large groups. It can accommodate large parties, and the food and prices are good. After our meal, it started to rain outside, so our group moved to the bar for after-meal drinks to wait until the rain died down a little more. The only complaint I could give is that the server did not come around enough to ask us if we wanted any more drinks. If he had, we would have surely ordered more!"

  • "Meat was good, but a bit pricey for what you get. It is midtown, but still. Weak banchan. Not bad if you are in the area, but there are definitely better options for Korean BBQ if you are willing to travel a bit."

  • "Loved the decor, and ability to cook fresh food at table. Marinade for meats and seafood was very tasty . Tables are a bit small for all that needs to come out. Waiter did not advise us that portions were large, so we ordered 4 entrees for 4 people, 2 of whom were children. We ate less than 1/2 of the food. Probably best to share. Soft shell crab roll was excellent as well. Would definitely go back."
