Diner Reviews
  • "My food was fairly flavorless, but the service was great."

  • "Service was attentive. Food was EXCELLENT. Prompt seating. Pleasant environment. Allover a very enjoyable experience"

  • "Meat was good, but a bit pricey for what you get. It is midtown, but still. Weak banchan. Not bad if you are in the area, but there are definitely better options for Korean BBQ if you are willing to travel a bit."

  • "Loved the decor, and ability to cook fresh food at table. Marinade for meats and seafood was very tasty . Tables are a bit small for all that needs to come out. Waiter did not advise us that portions were large, so we ordered 4 entrees for 4 people, 2 of whom were children. We ate less than 1/2 of the food. Probably best to share. Soft shell crab roll was excellent as well. Would definitely go back."

  • "Tries hard to be a little different from run of the mill Korean restaurant .... bbq was fine ... a bit overpriced but service was excellent."

  • "Went w 11 people. Only prob w a group is they can't push tables together for a group because of the grills. But otherwise food and service great."

  • "Its good that some things don't change. We have dined at Bann many times over the years and have never been disappointed (except for the one time early on when we foolishly tried to barbecue by ourselves at the table. That's what chefs are for). Our recent meal consisted of a spare ribs appetizer with a marvelous sauce, short ribs, which are always good, and a crispy rice dish with chicken (Dol Sot Bi Bim Bap). The food was excellent, as was the service. Indeed, the server was very personable and quite helpful. We will, of course, return."

  • "Brought a friend for the first time to Baan. She loved the food! I loved it too as I always do. Will definitely go again and a again."

  • "Mid-Town Hangout that's expensive and with Bad Food. Will not Recommend and Never Go Back. Food is Greasy, Over-Cooked and Over-Seasoned. Drowned in Sauces and Cheap Cuts of Meat etc...... No Refills on plain Fountain-Drinks!!!"
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "We had a delightful first visit to Bann. The barbecue was excellent, sides (kimchi, etc.) plentiful and of good quality, and service first-rate. We were pleasantly surprised, and will definitely return."

  • "Fantastic Korean BBQ, moderate but impressive wine list with good choices. fast super friendly service, our server Aaron was wonderful. Cook at the table! A plethora of fresh, intricate Korean favorites!"

  • "it was quite cold in the restaurant, but food was good."

  • "First time to a Korean restaurant. Barbecue was great, service was great, wait staff most helpful and friendly. Felt relaxed and unrushed."

  • "A group of us went to try Bann, who was listed as part of the NY Asian Restaurant week. We chose very well. Food was great. I had to try their chicken korean barbeque. It wasn't dry and it was flavorful. Their pork rib appetizer and the noodles (appetizer and entree) were really good. We loved most their beef stew (sorry, I couldn't remember the name), it was just yummy! The dessert was good, we got a strawberry dessert and a banana pudding one. Service-wise, it was good. It was just funny that one of the busboys would go ahead and take your plate off without asking if you're done. It wasn't a busy night so I hope we weren't too rowdy that they're trying to rush us out. But still, they were pleasant overall."

  • "I didn't think the food was worth the price and even if it was less expensive, I felt it was off the mark. The service was good but when the product isn't there, it really doesn't matter. The tuna tartar was the big disappointment. The presentation was amazing (ie block of ice) but I couldn't eat more than two bites. The rest of the meal was ok as it was cooking my own beef and tuna so not much to pull the experience up. I wouldn't recommend the place but also wouldn't argue with someone if they liked it. It fell short of Korean BBQ standards in my mind."

  • "After four trips here, with as few as 2 and as many as 8 diners, Bann continues to delight. It combines traditional Korean with innovative presentation. Grill at the table or order cooked from the kitchen. Wanting to try the entire menu, we're only a small way through after delightfully dining over the past three years. Yummy!"

  • "We always enjoy Bann. It is one of our 'go to' restaurants in our neighborhood. The food is great. We often have the same waiter; the other evening he took extra good care of us, and the restaurant was busy."

  • "Love Bann! The pork buns are so delicious! When I was there, a Korean food show was filming at Bann. They were doing an episode on the most authentic Korean restaurants in NYC. Must be good then!"

  • "Found this place through a friend and keep going back. They have wonderful food and the barbecue is not to be missed. We ordered several dishes and each one was better then the next. Recommend the shrimp and the Kalbi! Have a charming waiter who made us feel very comfortable and relaxed. The combination of wonderful food and great service are a hit in my eyes. Go for a feast and walk away happy! Ask for the winter Manny and I can guarantee a great evening. He knows his stuff and is his own restaurant's satisfied customer."

  • "Good food. Efficient service. But a bit noisy for a romantic date. Perfect for groups."
    Dined on 5/19/2014
  • "Bann had great food. The pork bun appetizers were great. We had tuna and beef tongue for dinner. The tuna was great, the tongue was tender but sliced a bit too thin and underseasoned, but only slightly. The kimchi was also excellent. All in all, a solid restaurant experience."
    Dined on 5/16/2014
  • "delicious. we were four people, we thought we ordered moderately, when we ordered 3 appetizers, and 3 entrees. we were stuffed, but couldn't stop eating, because it was that good! not my first time here. I will continue to go back."

  • "This was our 2nd time at Bann and we tried a few different things from the menu. Everything was excellent, great service and overall enjoyable. This is a reliable spot in the neighborhood for excellent food without being too formal or fancy"

  • "Loved the Korean BBQ! Fun, good size portions, great service. Interesting appetizers and delicious food. One caveat - it did get noisy when the restaurant filled up."

  • "We went after the theater and the food was wonderful! The portions were large and we ended up with leftovers for the next days lunch. This is our second visit to Bann and we loved it."
    Dined on 4/29/2014
  • "This was the perfect spot to be with family and friends! There was option for platters which were family style therefor we could all share! The little cooking grills were perfectly spaced out and it was so much fun to cook with everyone!"

  • "Diners looking for something different in the Theater District will enjoy Bann Restaurant. An Asian Fusion place, you can choose to grill you own dinner or have the kitchen prepare it for you. The beef and shrimp we cooked at our table were well-seasoned and the beef tender. Rice was nicely sticky. Service was attentive and anticipated our needs without hovering. Because we were there for Saturday pre-theater dinner, the restaurant was nearly empty and stayed fairly quiet until we were ready to leave. Bann is easy to recommend for the discerning foodie."

  • "We love Bann. Great food; great neighborhood find. My friend, who lives on the east side, had never been. She said it is her new favorite restaurant!"

  • "There were so many selections to choose from that I just had appetizers. The portions were bigger than appetizer size but so good that I had to eat them up. Their signature tuna sashimi with asian pear was worthy of being the star dish. The calamari had a great sticky sauce but the batter was a little heavy for tempura. My husband had the boneless short ribs and the meat was so tender with just the right amount of spice. Definitely have to return to try some of the other dishes. Overall we were very impressed with the flavours."

  • "We live in the neighborhood, and choose Bann because the food is always excellent. It did not fail this past Saturday."

  • "The kids loved getting involved bbqing their own meal. The ingredients were fresh and great quality and the service was great. I'd go back."

  • "We were visiting the city and arrived in on a late flight, started looking for something to eat around 9:30, so wanted an easy walk from our hotel in Midtown west. Having not tried Korean food before, we decided on Bann based on other reviews in Open Table. We were not disappointed!!! The food was excellent and the service, contrary to some of the other reviews, was very friendly and helpful. We were served quickly, but did not feel rushed at all."

  • "We were going to a show next door at New World Stages. We decided that lunch at Bann would be a good ides. We were wrong. It was a GREAT idea. Everything was delicious. We had the scallion pancakes and the crab rolls to start. Then we had rib eye and tuna for the grill. Everything was fabulous. We will be back"

  • "I went to Bann restaurant for my 25th birthday and it was a great experience! The food was marinated well and tender after grilling. Only complaint was the waiter was rushing us. In his defense it was late! Overall nice pick!"
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Eating with another, we each ordered a lunch box, $15, thinking we might be getting a good mix of things in measured quantity. The mix was good--about 7-8 different items (salad, rice, grated cucumber perhaps, miso soup, main, noodle dish, interesting take on kim chee)--and generally well done and far from pedestrian, but the quantity went well beyond "measured" into "quite ample". The only adverse note I'd point out is that the rice was unseasoned and the main did not have enough "juice", let's say, to allow the two to be mixed without the rice still coming across as a bit bland. Otherwise, highly recommended, a lunch find, and a spot to which I expect to return."

  • "Waiter was helpful with suggestions - probably about 35-50% more expensive than I would have thought but New York makes you numb to stupid prices...probably would look around next time for something else just because of the price - keeping in mind I cooked the food!!"
