A word from Banger's Sausage House & Beer Garden
Who is Olaf Banger? Few people really know, but everybody seems to have an opinion. They say Olaf Gufstafson Banger, or "OG" Banger as he was often called, was born in America, but moved to Germany in the 1940’s to learn the art of sausage making from a group of Tibetan Monks who had settled on the peak of the Zugspitze Mountain.
By the time he reached adulthood, his sausage making prowess had become so renowned, pigs would "fly" hundreds of miles just to be in one... no one could believe it. Though his fate remains a mystery his legacy lives on at the Sausage House & Beer Garden that bears his name. Good honest food & drink served by good honest people. That’s how Olaf liked it and so that’s how things will remain here at Banger’s.

Diner Reviews
  • "We had heard nothing but good things, so my boyfriend and I were excited to try this place. We were disappointed on many fronts: they were out of at least a dozen beers we tried to order, and out of the sausage I wanted to try most. I chose another sausage and side, but was brought the wrong side item when my food came out. Our server stopped checking on us after we ordered food, so I flagged her down just to be told they were out of the cider I wanted to order. I asked for any cider, and she said they were out of all the ciders. A lady at a table behind me was drinking the original cider I had asked for. "

  • "This was a great selection for an out-of-town group of 13. Food was very good, overall service was very good, and beer selection was, of course, outstanding. We used OpenTable for the first time to make the reservation. Small glitch in that the restaurant didn't seem to have our reservation, but the restaurant accommodated us very quickly - kudos to them! • "Monday night is dog night, so there were plenty of "man's best friend" there. Lots of sausage variety. Many beer choices, including flights of several to try. Live music, long outdoor tables that invite meeting new people. We liked it. Definitely fits into the Rainey Street vibe. "

  • "Simply the best. The food was incredible, the staff was knowledgeable and friendly, and the tap wall can't be beat."

  • "Tried several different sausages and they were all perfectly paired with their toppings and buns. Be adventurous and try as many as you can"

  • "Banger's was a great experience for my husband and me, of senior age. We were the minority at the 5-6 PM time frame. The servers were fabulous to make us feel welcome, answer questions about food styles, and brew specialties. We enjoyed walking the neighborhood after dinner and made note of places we want to experience later. Senior age didn't seem to matter at all in any establishment. Our server at Bangers resembled the actor, Harry Potter, so it was really fun. We will return and bring our adult children, their spouses and children when they are In town. I only wish that there was a safe parking solution for this area."

  • "I enjoyed the outdoor beer garden setting very much. The service was fine. However, half of what we ordered, they were out of. And what we did get was a little on the bland side. I'd go back for beers, but next time I might skip the food. That's if I can bring myself to go near Rainey St. again, which is awful if you're over the age of 22."

  • "This resturant is a hidden gem in a upcoming and developing neighborhood. A friend of mind had seeked out this resturant and would not give up until we found it. The food was great, atmosphere, awesom and the resturant itself reminded me of eating in a dining hall at a summer camp. The service was great. They had a large selection of beer which was great for fellow beer drinkers. The only thing I did not quite enjoy was the lack of spirits for those who do not drink beer and wanted an alcoholic beverage. Perhaps adding a small selection of Texas' finest spirits?"

  • "So this is a beer garden and I didn't realize that. They were out of the ciders they advertised in their menu but our waitress offered us one she had in a bottle. Everyone sits together at long tables the way the Germans do. There is no other option. The sausages were really good. The choices of other sides is limited though, not enough vegetables for my taste. It's great for what it is - a beer garden."

  • "Both the bartender and waiter were very knowledgeable in both beer and food recommendations. Everyone in our party of 5 was very satisfied with everything!"

  • "With over 100 beers on tap and a menu that includes an amazing selection of sausages, this is a place that should be experienced. The suggested pairings for toppings were fantastic. Bangers and mash with buttery skin-on mashed potatoes was also delish but there could have been more brown gravy for the amount of taters. The wild boar sausage was to die for. Also, the restaurant sells raw sausage that you can take home and they are hoping to open a full meat market in a next door building. There is a lot of outdoor seating and they occasionally kook a whole animal. Dining is community style at very long rustic trestle tables. The wait staff is attentive and very knowledgeable of the menu items. Do yourself a favor and try this place."

  • "Bangers is a great spot to drink Craft Beers, eat sausage and hang out in the Beer Garden with friends. We went on the Sunday after the Formula 1 and TX/OK Game and the service was reallllllly slow - apparently they did not expect so many people and were very short staffed. Also the beers had been hit hard over the weekend and there were quite a few that were unavailable. Food took over an hour to come and was not very hot when it did. Hopefully next year they do a better job of staffing up as I'd like to try it again for their great beer selection but would have to think carefully before committing to stay and eat with that kind of wait time."

  • "This place was a great find on our drive from San Antonio to Dallas. It has awesome outdoor seating, an amazing array of beer (on tap and in bottles) and so many sausage options! I think if you didn't want sausage, or don't like dogs, Banger's might not be for you. But for us, it was simply perfect. The coolest thing is that there is a dog run, where you can let your dog play with other dogs! Such a great idea! The three adults got different types of sausage, and they even had a dog order, of which the proceeds went to charity. It was a wonderfully inclusive experience."

  • "me and my wife ate here for the first time and loved it. the sausages were extremely delicious, the habanero hotdog was super spicy but still flavorful and the mac and cheese was amazing. I would definitely recommend bangers to anyone looking for amazing housemade sausage, great sides and huge beer selection."

  • "After a five minute wait, I decided to order the food to go. The waitress brought water and then disappeared. After 15 minutes she returned to take the order, duck bacon fig, smokey the boar, german potato salad and some dessert. After 25 minute wait the to go order arrived from someone. Five more minutes and had to flag the waitress down to receive the bill. As I looked over the bill, I see there is a to go charge of $3.50. It was more than disappointing considering I spent 45 waiting on the waitress and the food. I left and ten minutes later was at my friend's place of business to have lunch. The food was cold, and tasteless. The only part that was delicious from the entire meal was the dessert, which was outsourced from Butterface."

  • "Everything is a susage... even fried chicken and bulgogi. Fried pickles are yummy. Unique dining experience within walking distance of convention center. We took a group and everyone loved it! An entire wall of specialty beers on tap and even rootbeer on tap for the "non alcoholics." Tons of unique sausage choices. Dining tables both inside and outside are long community style picnic tables. Rainey Street comes alive at night with a whole street of ranch style houses that have been converted into bars with live music and backyard games...A less hectic but still fun alternative to the 6th street bar scene."

  • "Great Outdoor place. Specially for evenings and late nights. Very Austin. Great Selection of Beer. Fits with Austin. High in Energy (so, if you are in mood for quiet dinner, this is not it). Vegetarian Sausages were excellent ( I am a vegetarian)."

  • "They've been open almost a year now, I have no idea why I haven't been there soon! The food is AMAZING, and the wall of [beer] taps is outstanding! I had the fried chicken sausage (yes, chicken sausage, deep fried) - so so so good comfort food! Also enjoyed the Duchesse de Bourgogne belgian, truly divine. Lots of evening events and music throughout the week. Dog friendly, outside. Also, stumbled upon the ability to make reservation via Facebook - walked in and they were eagerly awaiting us! DEFinitely going back soon!"
